“Empty stomachs have no ears…” These were the words of a poacher in Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, when asked why he continued to destroy wildlife in a local forest. It reveals what we often forget: that the degradation of biodiversity doesn't happen in a vacuum. So how are global security, development and conservation related? In what ways do conflict and its many secondary effects, bring grave risks for biodiversity? And how can start seeing action on climate and wildlife as a fundamental part of the post-conflict peacebuilding process? This special episode for London Climate Action Week sees Dr Richard Milburn, Visiting Research Associate in the Department of War Studies, answer these questions and more. He gives important insight into some of the biggest issues around climate, conservation and security, including ways to protect wildlife during conflict, post-conflict environmental recovery, and how we can fundamentally challenge our thinking on climate change, including why we should all become conservation entrepreneurs. You can find out more about Richard's work, including his innovative environmental action game here: https://www.tunzagames.com and the conservation organisation his work supports here: https://www.polepolefoundation.org
Going with the flow and getting out of the hustle, and why self love is a CRUCIAL part of reaching your goals and getting the things you desire. (Scroll to the bottom for show notes) Last Monday, I decided to take a couple of weeks off from social media and the constant posting. I listened to an Abraham Hicks podcast about putting time between the asking of the question and the answer, and it really shifted how I see things. The episode talked about that as humans we go around all day and ask questions and expect an immediate answer. But things need to line up for us to understand the answer and items need to be put in place so the answer we receive makes sense. I've been working on this online business for a long time and I've learned SO much and come so far, but because I tend to look forward (and let's be honest, constantly compare myself to people who are “more successful” than me), my vibration isn't lined up with what I want and I stay stuck. I also had a psychic reading with my friend Tana, and she told me my guides are basically asking me to pause and settle for a bit. They said that if I can rest in where I can be of service RIGHT NOW, the answers that are eluding me will come. And also that I need to calm my vibration and get into the receiving mode. After listening to this podcast and the reading I had with Tana, I decided to go with the flow and chill for a little while. And already answers have been showing themselves to me. I don't know what to do with them just yet, but I know if I relax into them it will start to make sense. I also decided to sit tight and revel in all of the amazing things I have RIGHT now, and the ways I am able to serve. So while it's not my dream business yet… it is on its way and I have a lot of amazing blessings in my current physical reality. I am also already serving and helping a lot of people. I have been so focused on creating content consistently (as in, daily… sometimes even multiple times a day) the magic of my particular message gets lost and sacrificed for content output. And while it may feel like that's how we hack the algorithm, I think it's actually super counter productive for soul aligned businesses. Because your soul clients can feel what's missing, even if they can't quite name it. And now a life changing book that brought me to do this episode... "It's Not Your Money" by Tosha Silver on here, but I AM OBSESSED. I am also really becoming “anti manifestation” culture (although maybe I don't need to be anti anything). I know vision boards and writing down exactly what you want works for a lot of people, and maybe there's a place and energy type for it. But for me, it feels exhausting, and like I'm constantly telling the universe exactly what I want (but let's be real, I'm not entirely sure exactly what I want), not receiving it, stressing about it... and the universe is over here like" DUDE maybe that's not what you're meant to have." INYM is all about surrendering to the divine flow so God can use you however he sees fit, and how to become a conduit for source. Let go of the tunnel vision and open yourself up to the divine flow. This was a huge "aha" moment that's helped me recognize the need to go with the flow. I really want to let go of societies idea of “success”. We've been taught for decades to work as hard as you possibly can and what you want will come. But so often, that completely goes against the law of attraction. When you're focused so much on what you don't have and beating your head against the wall to try and make it happen, you actually push it further away from you. This is true for the old adage of “work hard and things will come to you” as well as “ask for every fucking specific thing, or the universe will be confused”. And in the words of Tosha Silver… as if the all knowing Goddess herself doesn't know what you need. NOW... Here's my tips for you, wonderful reader!

NATO leaders are gathered in Madrid for the most consequential meeting in the organization's history. The summit kicked off by enlarging the alliance, giving Putin more NATO, not less: when Sweden and Finland become NATO member states, it will lengthen Russia's border with the alliance by 800 miles. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says this move proves Putin is failing – but danger remains as Russian forces continue to dominate in eastern Ukraine. Victoria E. Johnson, professor of film & media studies, is the author of Sports TV, which looks at the genre from a distinctly humanistic perspective, exploring American history, culture, class, race and identity through the lens of broadcast sports. One chapter in Sports TV specifically focuses on Title IX and its legacies, including the explosion of female participation and visibility in sports at all levels, as well as in the boom in marketing of the “female athlete icon” that has occurred from the 1990s onward, thanks to the growth of the first and second post-Title IX generation of female participants in sports. According to Johnson, "Perhaps the most visible legacy of Title IX has been the explosion of female participation in sports at all levels since its institution. Title IX has encouraged subsequent generations of female-identified athletes and professionals to participate in and to re-imagine sports as athletes, coaches, and sports media professionals. Crucial here, also, have been the ways that marketing, advertising, and the explosion of social media have capitalized on and promoted the 'post-Title IX' female athlete as icon and target demographic." The Office of Personnel Management has reached a milestone it hasn't seen since 2015. OPM Director Kiran Ahuja just hit one year in office as agency head. Ahuja has made progress in her position -- for example, giving feds time off to vote and bringing back the Presidential Rank Awards after a year's hiatus. But the agency is hitting a few bumps in the road, too. Many feds, for example, shared in the 2021 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey that they're not happy with return to office plans. Federal News Network's Drew Friedman sat down with Ahuja at a press conference, where the director discussed OPM's priorities for telework.
We live in a world of political extremes, with the far right and far left denigrating each other on a regular basis. But could the future lie with politicians who appeal to everyone else? Our guest on this show says yes. Former CIA agent and Republican congressman Will Hurd of San Antonio won three terms representing Texas's 23rd district. He was told he could never it because it was bright blue, while he was red. Hurd says he succeeded by engaging with everyone, not just voters who shared all his beliefs. “In the media in Washington DC…moderate means middle of the road,” he says. “But in reality, moderates are the ones that do the hard work and get things done because they're the ones that are having to take a philosophy to people that may not identify with it.” Hurd grew up bi-racial in Texas, which gave him the early experience of finding common ground. In his book American Reboot he outlines how to "get big things done" by focusing on policy, not politics. He also shares his thoughts on what Americans should be worrying about, including losing control of the technology which we use to run our lives.

Support the showS2_E43. EPISODE DESCRIPTION - Last week we discussed the importance of empathy. Not only for ourselves as writers, but for developing dynamic and engaging characters. This week, we take that same principle and dive deeper as we apply it to our lives and our writing to think about the way we engage culture. Now as a storyteller, writing coach, and artist myself, I tend to see a very common thread that leads to, well, not so good stories. That common thread is fear. I want to challenge us in this episode to really look at our role in society both as artists, and as Christians, and see where we are letting fear affect our writing. We need not be afraid to address the hard aspects of life. If we are going to change the world through story then we can't take a sanitized view of the world. In fact, we need to address the world as it really is and reveal that there really is a way out of sin, pain, suffering and anxiety that exists within every person. So we need not be afraid! Follow me on this journey of confronting our fears and facing the world with a bold faith, knowing that Christ called us to be in the world, but not of the world. The St. Louis Cardinals dropped two of three over the weekend in Boston, and the main takeaway is that this bullpen needs help. Giovanny Gallegos and Ryan Helsley were not used, so the rest of the 'pen got a chance to step up and they did not. Both Friday and Sunday saw 9th-inning comebacks squandered due to late runs given up by the bullpen in the 7th or 8th innings. This week's series against the Brewers is as important as a series can get in mid June. Both teams are 38-30, so the Cardinals will be looking to take advantage of four games against their division rival. It'll be a tall task, especially tonight, because that Brewer pitching is awfully good. WANT MORE DAILY ST. LOUIS CARDINALS CONTENT? Follow & Subscribe to the Podcast on these platforms…

The Awakened Company's aim is to ignite and sustain the fire within organizations with passion, purpose, and playfulness. They help leaders discover their inner castles so they can lead better, and they help them to cultivate and actualize strategies with soul. They love bringing innovation and love to life. They also have an experienced coaching team to help with personal development. Author of The Awakened Company, Catherine's revolutionary business book was awarded the Nautilus Book Awards in Business & Leadership, a best seller one week after its release, a best seller on Amazon, chosen as “8 of The Best Leadership Books of 2015”, and recognized as a top book combining business and mindfulness. Catherine has been published in Fortune, HBR, Profit, Conscious Company Magazine, Women of Influence and written for the UN.
