January 2026 Bizarre News | Paranormal Podcast In this month's Bizarre News, we cover four wild stories starting with the shocking case of Jonathan Gerlock from Philadelphia, who was arrested after police discovered skulls, arm and leg bones, mummified hands and feet, and two actively decomposing torsos in his possession—along with approximately 100 bodies worth of bones stored throughout his home after he'd broken into 26 mausoleums at the Mount Mariah cemetery over several months. Finally, we explore the terrifying situation of a family in India's Gaya district who fled their home after experiencing unexplained fires for seven consecutive days that damaged rooms, clothes, bedding, and even their kitchen stove—with the family believing the mysterious blazes began after they refused bread to a wandering holy man (a Sadhu) who became enraged, cursed them, and specifically declared their house would catch on fire before leaving.

My guest for this episode is author and researcher Tony Wright, who joined me to talk about his recent book Things Aren't Right: The Disappearance of the Yuba County Five.  The book explores the strange and tragic 1978 disappearance of five friends in the Plumas National Forest in Northern California; Ted Weiher, Jack Madruga, Bill Sterling, Jackie Huett, and Gary Mathias. Four of these men had intellectual disabilities while one was diagnosed with schizophrenia. On Friday, February 24, 1978, they left the Yuba County, California area in Madruga's 1969 Mercury Montego to attend a basketball game in Chico, California. Four days later the car they were traveling in was found abandoned on a snow-covered road in the mountains of the Plumas National Forest, some seventy-five miles in the wrong direction from home. Four jurisdictions of law enforcement would investigate and search for the missing men. Psychics were brought in, and there were strange reports of sightings of the five from numerous people. One witness came forward with an incredible story of seeing the men disappear into the forest that night. Yet every lead came to a dead end. About four months after they vanished, four of the five men's remains were found some twelve miles from the car, with one discovered in a US Forest Service trailer with plenty of food and fuel to keep them alive for months. Once described as ‘Bizarre as hell', the case of the Yuba County Five has baffled law enforcement and the families of the missing men for over forty-five years. Tony's meticulous research has rightly earned him the reputation of being one of the foremost authorities on the subject, and his conclusions are likely as close as anyone will come to making sense of what happened to Ted, Jack, Bill, Jackie and Gary. Zach's first sighting occurred during late winter or early spring 2018 while stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on I-70, when he spotted a massive flying wing with camouflage technology that made only its outlines visible—like the Predator's cloaking effect—slowly moving eastward toward the DIA and Buckley Air Force Base, seemingly unnoticed by other drivers despite its size and unusual appearance. His second encounter happened on July 4th of either 2021 or 2022 when he witnessed a completely silent, wingless pod-shaped craft—roughly the size of a smart car with thin brown and orange stripes like an old Winnebago—flying just above housetops near his girlfriend's neighborhood, headed directly toward Waterton Canyon and the nearby Lockheed Martin facility. We then hear Megan's enchanting story from northern Minnesota between 2005 and 2009, where as a young child visiting her grandparents' 100-acre property, she developed a mysterious habit of placing quarters and shiny objects under rocks near the boathouse, only to return the next day and discover her offerings had doubled—a phenomenon she suspected might be the work of the fae, though her family never believed her when she finally shared the story years later. We then hear from Dani, who worked at a California zoo and became a paranormal believer after hearing mysterious whistling coming from an abandoned monorail track late one night, only to learn from a custodial worker that the sound belonged to a maintenance man who died from electrocution while working on that very monorail—a man known for whistling while he walked the dock. Finally, we dive into Mike's experience at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas during a union election in September 2021, where he woke up paralyzed in the middle of the night to find strange animal-like sounds around his bed and a portal layered over his hotel window with creatures running through it. The most terrifying part came when Mike looked down to see a three-foot-tall humanoid creature standing on all fours at the end of his bed—eyeless, with a flat snake-like nose, drooling mouth full of canine teeth—that snarled at him before nodding and leaping back through the closing portal, leaving him screaming for his girlfriend who believed it was sleep paralysis, though the vivid details Mike sketched suggest something far stranger may have visited his room that night.
