It is our year-end episode, celebrating the absolute greatness of comics and manga with our favorite books of 2025 from across the industry; DC Comics, Image Comics, Marvel Comics, Dark Horse Comics, IDW, Kodansha, Viz, Rebellion and many more. It was an incredible year packed with standout books, so each co-host narrowed it down to their top 10 favorite comics … although one co-host may have sneakily cheated and brought 12 to the table. From super-heroes to sci-fi, fantasy, horror and everything in between, this episode is a love letter to comics in 2025.

Japan is often described as having “spirituality without religion”, but what does that actually mean? In this episode, author Hiroko Yoda joins the Krewe to break down how spirituality quietly shapes everyday life in Japan, from nature and kami to shrines, folklore, and even anime. With personal stories and insights from her new book, Eight Million Ways to Happiness, this conversation offers a fresh look at happiness rooted in connection, not belief.------ About the Krewe ------The Krewe of Japan Podcast is a weekly episodic podcast sponsored by the Japan Society of New Orleans. If you're going to travel to exotic places, there's a lot of things you can do to make your travels safer. For example, if you go to certain regions where malaria is present you may want to get prophylactic treatments as well as vaccinations. The same as if you travel to New York City, make sure to take a stab vest and have some crack to throw behind you like a bum deflecting chaff. Enough helpful stuff, onto the manga. Tim's up first with Dogsred. It's a sports manga about hockey. That's not spoiling anything you can't glean from the cover. It begins with Rou Shirakawa winning a figure skating … Continue reading "Manga Pulse 549: Red Cuck"

Tonight on the GeekNights Book Club, we discuss Jacqueline Harpman's phenomenal I Who Have Never Known Men.I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman is a dystopian sci-fi novel. It was originally written in French and published in 1995. It was not very well known until recently it surged in popularity. This renewed interest in the book is not unfounded. Although it is only thirty years old, I was convinced it was at least twenty years older. It reads much like the foundational dystopian sci-fi novels like 1984, Fahrenheit 451, or Brave New World. It tells the story of a woman who has lived her entire life in a prison. She has no memory of anything else. In the prison cell are only women. The other women do remember life before the prison, but nothing else. They don't know why they are there, and assume they will never be let out. From that point, various events begin to unfold.Related LinksForum ThreadBook Club: I Who Have Never Known MenDiscord ChatBook Club: I Who Have Never Known MenBluesky PostBook Club: I Who Have Never Known Men
