Clear Water Radio (The Green Revolution Show)

It was forty five years ago today that a small band of environmentalist set out from Vancouver, WA, in order to stop the U.S. nuclear testing in the North Pacific. Today, Greenpeace is a world wide movement, and better known for it's extreme measures to stop the proliferation of the planet's natural resources, primarily within our vast oceans utilizing a fleet of ships to promote their mission in protecting and conserving the environment.Most of us only care for our own little corner of the world, and we view the actions of Greenpeace as something our crazy Uncle might be involved in. Today I'll be joined by Greenpeace Ocean Campaigner, David Pinsky, and his passion for our vast oceans and promoting sustainable fishing practices in the Tuna Industry (see his recent article in Ocean View). Let's explore the efforts that you and I can take that will make a difference, keep our planet healthy and vibrant, but won't bring the press and world governments down our neck. We'll leave that to Greenpeace!Speaking of oceans, it's Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday! My program would not be complete without talking about Fresh Drinking Water, and the true value of this precious resource. The value that is only recognized when we have too much, like in the case of flooding, or the very real (but not yet realized) possibility that we don't have enough to go around, and we are left without! Happy Teddy Bear Day!As with every episode, I'll be combining the day's celebratory theme with the Wonderful World of Water.Over a hundred years ago, today, POTUS Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt was out hunting, but wasn't having any luck. One of his assistants felt compelled to fetch a young bear cub, tie it to a tree, and give the commander in chief an opprotunity to bag a kill. President Roosevelt would have nothing to do with the setup, and the news of the days' event went viral. Today is Literacy Day, established 50 years ago, today.The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) proclaimed September 8th as International Literacy Day in 1966 in order to actively mobilize the international community and to promote literacy as an instrument to empower individuals, communities and societies. This is now a part of the 2030 Agenda, as Goal 4.Providing safe drinking water is a major part of acheiving these goals of empowerment!Mr. Wayne will talk about how this is possible, and hopefuly announce the winners of this years' Literacy Prizes being awarded today in Paris at the UNESCO Headquaters.

Happy Hummingbird Day!We are celebrating little hummers today, as they begin to think about migrating south to warmer regions. Due to this migration, hummingbirds are goind to need fuel for quick energy, hence the sweet flower nectar they are so well known for enjoying, but did you know they eat bugs, too?It's part of why Hummingbirds help in creating a balanced backyard, and a sustainable planet. We'll talk about how we can attract hummingbirds in our own yards and keep them coming back.Let's talk about rocks, too, which today marks the 4 year annivesary of bringing back the Pet Rock, started in 1975.
