Decoding the mysteries of true happiness and the limitless human potential
I'm back at it again with Chris DeVilbiss, PhD. This time we had a brief but meaningful discussion about the evolution of self, esoteric spirituality, and the path forward as a self-employed and self-empowered Yoga teacher. For more of Chris' teaching, visit him on his website: https://9thlimb.com/
In this episode, I offer up my deepest, darkest secret to you, to underscore the importance of vulnerability in a social context. Society has it completely backwards. Vulnerability is the ultimate measure of strength. Anyone can walk around in a suit of armour, but few people have the courage to bleed in front of everyone. I challenge you to make yourself more vulnerable, and see just how the universe responds to your acceptance of yourself.
I've been waiting to do this interview for quite some time now, and I'm happy to say it lived up to the hype. Dr. Dylan Selterman and I sit down to discuss American values and norms, and why the public education system needs a major face lift. The stigma surrounding "seeing a psychologist" is preventing us from achieving our fullest potential, but how do you change a culture that so many consider "normal". A culture that gives teenagers less freedom than prisoners, and depicts mental struggle as something inherently "abnormal". Dr. Selterman also gives several recommendations for further reading, which I'll be sure to add to my 2019 reading list. Did you ever learn how to breathe? Did you ever think it was necessary? In this episode, Tommy Brophy and I dive deep into the respiratory system and how it affects our well-being. Tommy has Cystic Fibrosis, a chronic disease causing excessive fluid buildup in the lungs, which impairs normal lung function. Tommy brought the CF walk, a national event held in various places throughout the country, to the University of Maryland. Last year the walk was able to raise over $60k for CF research, helping to extend and improve the lives of those with CF. I'll post a link to donate or sign up to walk on Facebook and Instagram, as well as additional information on how better breathing leads to better lives, for those with and without CF.
It's not that deep! I've been sitting on some thoughts for a while based on readings, podcasts, and videos I've consumed in the past couple of weeks, and I want to share with you some conclusions with you based on them. Ego death, the hero's journey, the true and false selves, and the fundamental error that causes a great deal of human suffering; this is Happiness U: Philosophy
Let's talk about love. What are the myths we've been told about love? Will you be sad and miserable if you can't find it? Are there different kinds of love? Join me as I answer these questions and show you that there's more to love than meets the eye.
This episode, we're going OLD SCHOOL. No, literally. I revisit my high school and sit down with my former psychology teacher to discuss happiness and how it's being taught in the public school system. SPOILER ALERT: We have a long way to go
I get real about interoception, our bodily sense of our own interior experience. Do you believe that we can direct our experience from the outside in? This episode makes the case for just that
Mental health has traditionally focused on treating illness with medication rather than maximizing human potential. In this podcast I choose to change the dialogue. I start off discussing my experiences and reasons for beginning this podcast with my girlfriend.
