    We have 60K-90K thoughts a day and half of those thoughts are repeated from the day before and then half of those thoughts are negative thoughts. Over time, these repeated thoughts add up to what we think of as our personality, our truth, our reality. But what happens if we don't like our situation, personality, or reality? What if we desire change in our life? That only happens when we change our perception of reality through our perspective on what is real and what is true. Being mindful of our thoughts is an excellent way to shift into a new reality. This meditation aims to help re-wire the mind one breath at a time.

Angela Wong and Doug Conrad share their experience of coming to The Connect in Nature Mindfulness Retreat at Green Gulch Farm and Zen Center together as a physician couple.  They reflect on what it was like to step away from the daily pace of medicine for a few days to reconnect—with themselves, with each other, and with what matters most.   They talk about perfectionism in medicine, the hidden cost of constant productivity, and how slowing down can restore perspective, compassion, and connection.  This conversation is a reminder that a pause for self-care is not indulgent. It is one way we reclaim agency in medicine and remember who we are beyond the roles we carry.     As we go through our lives, all the stressors, anxieties, bumps in the road, past traumas all add up and begin to sort of paint us into a corner and sometimes it feels like avoiding them will make them easier to deal with. Out of sight, out of mind...but over time we begin to see that there is no avoiding truth because what tends to happen is instead of avoiding that thing we are pretending doesn't exist, we end of fixating on it. Instead of avoiding the thing, it begins to run our lives in so many unproductive ways. This meditation aims to help gain perspective on this and reminds us that recognizing and acknowledging, much like acknowledging thoughts while in meditation, makes moving on with our lives so much easier.

    Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend!   I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks…   Ryan: First off, I would like to say thanks for all that you do in supporting a healthy community, it's greatly appreciated. My question has to do with what and how much physical activity should you do while you are sick, along with what additional health modalities would you suggest. When you are sick or feeling like you're getting sick, do you continue hitting your 10,000 steps per day? Weight lift? Cardio? HIIT? Continue working out but at a reduced intensity? Should you substitute some activity for red light? Sauna? Yoga? And how would this differ from a cold to a fever? Thanks again!      Ann: Hi Dr. Cabral and as always thank you for being such a champion for us out here :) A friend swears that Milk Thistle helped her when she was battling liver cancer. I have NAFLD and am working to reduce it, and besides the ways you have outlined to help (episode 3017), I'm wondering if milk thistle could be a good addition? Thank you so much - have a blessed day:)      Dawn Marie:  Hi, Dr. Cabral. I had mono as a child, and again in 2023 when I was 48 years of age. In 2023, I was on day 17 of the detox when the mono re-emerged and I was quite sick, almost requiring hospitalization--liver enzymes quite high, thickening of gallbladder walls, and enlarged spleen. My doctor actually wrote me a referral to a surgeon to likely have my gall bladder removed! Thank goodness, after years of listening to your podcasts, I knew to do some research and discovered that after I recovered from the mono, all would return to normal and they did. My understanding is that Epstein-Barr "lives" in the liver and is difficult to fully heal from. I'd like to "kick it out" for good. Is there a way to fully heal from EBV? Is there any risk of it re-emerging if I try to do another 21-day detox?      Dylaini: Hi Dr Cabral! Thanks for all you do, you're a wealth of knowledge! I am working with a lot of tinnitus clients and some claim it's from being in the military and being exposed to loud noises, do you think this is simply a "stress" on the body and isn't necessarily a permeant issue from being exposed to loud noises? Thanks again!     Josephine: Hi Dr Cabral, you've been an amazing ing help to me over the years, thank you. I'm a 44year old woman living in Australia. I have idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis (IGH) on my legs and arms. I get this much more so than brown pigment spots. I understand sun protection is the best way to prevent this, however I'm wondering if you have any tips for how to treat it (most sources say pigment won't come back) and also what supplements or topical treatments (excluding sunscreen) might make the skin less susceptible.
