DeNeece and Iza, two women who couldn’t be more different, come together to set the stage for having *those* difficult conversations. DeNeece grew up on a farm in Oklahoma and now lives child-free in the burbs of Austin, TX, with her husband of 9 years. Iza was brought up in the backstreets of the North End of Detroit, MI. She is a same-sex loving, single nana. Together, we’re tackling popular culture, current events, and all around fuckery…it’s just a position. Neurodiversity. ASD, ADHD, Transgender, Homosexual. All started out being treated as diseases. While some have started the transition to being an identity instead of a disease, the stench of the disease label lingers: conversion therapy, legal obstacles to transgendered life…and then there’s ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) & ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) which haven’t even made the first move in that direction. Ruth Pan is a film maker and writer living in Austin who identifies as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and is working with her medical team to determine if she has ADHD. She lives at the intersection of this question. She also shares her coming out story. Please send her lots of love for being this open and vulnerable with us, Jusa-Nation! DeNeece has a theory about trash pandas in Alternative Reflections. Iza returns for Ratchet Effect bemoaning the internet-driven culture we're in especially where dating is concerned. In the US, the pursuit of happiness is a constitutional right and the happiness industry (yes, there is such a thing) is constantly peddling products that give us a temporary boost of dopamine, the happiness hormone. Once we finished speaking about relationship anarchy, Candace Owens, and the 20 Senators' letter demanding the FDA ban the abortion pill for Episode 6 and with the mics still live, our conversation turned to Justice for Breonna Taylor, gun culture in working and middle class white families, Maj Toure and his organization Black Guns Matter, and how legally carrying a gun did not protect Philando Castile. It didn't make it into episode 6 because it was off topic and very conversational which is not in line with our vision. We just don't want to be a "two people sitting around having a conversation for an hour" type of show. There are lots out there & we even listen to a few of them! We're here for women who have plenty of demands on their time already. We want to stick to the topic and deliver a to-the-point, succinct show that doesn't waste any of your precious time. But the conversation was real, authentic, and might even be a challenge to listen to so we're releasing it as a bonus. You might want to give us a piece of your mind after listening in and we're here for it. If you've got something to say in response to this bonus, call and leave us a voicemail at 512-766-4744. #JusticeForBreonna #BlackLivesMatter #BlackGunsMatter #2A --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jusaposition/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jusaposition/support
