For years now, it's been known that movies based on video games don't work. We could talk endlessly about the "video game curse," but does it indeed exist? We all know the cycle, one that seems to repeat every year. A high-profile movie based on a video game comes out, and the stars and critics proclaim it will finally be the one to shatter the old "video game movies suck!" However, it winds up being a disappointment. Well, on this week's episode of Movies After Hours, we have two special guests (Colin Wendt & Travis Graham) help us dive into the mysterious curse on Video game movies and discuss if it is truly real?

It seems like every successful movie these days seems to get a sequel. It’s hard to capture lightning in a bottle twice, so some sequels lean so heavily on the concept of the first film that it feels lazy, while others reinvent the wheel a little too vigorously, resulting in a sequel that loses its connection to what made the first movie so famous. That’s what makes crafting a sequel so tricky, and only in sporadic cases are sequels better than their predecessors. Yet, some of the greatest films ever made are sequels: Movies like The Dark Knight, The Godfather Part II, Toy Story 3, The Empire Strikes Back and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. So, join us in this weeks episode where we sit down with our guest Colin Wendt as we discuss, Are sequels ever as good as the original?

Hi, I’m Jordan Nichols, and I love movies. I've been endlessly fascinated by the world of film since I could remember. For me, movies are like breathing. Like you can’t live without breathing, for me, it’s the same. Movies let us escape from real life for a few hours, and sometimes that can be a wonderful distraction from everything that is going on. Even if life is perfectly fine, taking some time out to enjoy something that is entirely unrelated to your own life can help you to relax a little more. I invite you to join me as I explore as we dive into movies that allow us to feel different emotions and experience beautiful storytelling.
