Hey Ohana, On this week's show we take dive into a monumental undertaking... trying to figure out Hollywood Studios. Many Disney fans (us included) love Hollywood Studios, but feel like something is just a little off. It seems to have become more of the catchall for Disney attractions rather than the park telling a cohesive story. And so, along with our friends, Johanna, Jonathan, and Sean, we attempt to figure out the underlaying issue in Hollywood Studios, and to create a common thread to bring the park back together. We had so much to chat about (and to be honest, there are probably even more future episodes on this topic in the future) that we talked for nearly 2 hours! So we're sharing part 1 this week and then be sure to tune back in to catch part 2 next week! Be sure to also head over to our FB group to continue the conversation! We'll share some questions and discussion topics based on the episode for the Ohana to get involved with! Thanks for tuning in and as always... See Ya Real Soon! In this episode, Kevin Black joins David to explore why leadership so often feels chaotic and why most leadership development fails to prepare leaders for that reality. Together, they examine the gap between how leadership is taught and how it's experienced, unpacking how leaders respond to pressure, uncertainty, and loss of control and why those responses can either escalate or stabilise chaos. Kevin shares insights from his research into leadership under pressure, introducing a more grounded way of understanding what effective leadership looks like when conditions are volatile and ambiguous. The conversation also focuses on the role of Learning & Development. Kevin explains where traditional leadership programmes fall short, what L&D can do differently to prepare leaders for real-world complexity and how embracing chaos as a design constraint - not a flaw - can lead to more credible and impactful leadership development. If you're responsible for developing leaders and questioning whether current approaches are enough, this episode is for you. Take your L&D to the next level Take advantage of thousands of hours of analysis. Hundreds of conversations with industry innovators and 25+ years of hands-on global L&D leadership. It's all distilled into one framework to help you level up L&D. Access the L&D Maturity Model here - https://360learning.com/maturity-model KEY TAKEAWAYS If L&D keeps treating leadership as generic empathy and communication training, it leaves leaders under-skilled in critical thinking, planning, strategy execution, and behavioural adaptability – unprepared for the chaos they face. Reconnect leadership to context, critical thinking, planning and behavioural adaptability, so leaders can recognise the patterns of chaos and work with it rather than be overwhelmed by it. BEST MOMENTS “Chaos is experienced at the individual level, but it's measured at the team level.” “If leadership education is all people-oriented, and you're not learning how to critically think, plan, link your communication, then you are inviting people to go into behavioural overdrive.” “You should have a direct line to the C suite... Don't be the handmaid of HR and just doing services.” Kevin Black Bio Kevin Black is globally recognised as a leadership strategist and researcher, specialising in how leaders perform under pressure and uncertainty. Drawing on six years of frontline experience in the U.S. Army, he helps organisations develop leaders who make better decisions, build resilient teams, and deliver results when traditional leadership models fall short. Disney, The Muppets, and Jim Henson Disney just closed the Muppets Courtyard in Hollywood Studios to make way for Monstropolis. But while Muppet Vision 3D, Jim Henson's Last Muppet project, is gone, the Muppets aren't leaving Hollywood Studios; they've moved into the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. Is this a promotion or a demotion? To understand what's happening today, we have to look back to the deal that almost happened in 1989. In this episode, we explore the history and connection between Jim Henson, George Lucas, and Michael Eisner. We dive into the the handshake between Eisner and Henson that almost changed Disney forever, the tragic timing of Jim Henson's final project, and why it took Disney 14 years to finally close the deal. In this video, we look at: The commonalities between Jim Henson and Walt Disney. The George Lucas bridge that brought Jim Henson to Imagineering. The "Muppet Babies" connection to Marvel and Star Wars. The "Great Muppet Movie Ride" was planned but never built. Why the 1990 TV Special "The Muppets at Walt Disney World" was a bittersweet turning point. The future of the Muppets in film and in the Disney Parks. Jeremy Allen White's ROTTA THE HUTT's inclusion in THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU was a surprise to many a Star Wars fan. Not since Dave Filoni's 2008 animated-film The Clone Wars had we seen Rotta, then affectionately known as "Stinky". In that film, our heroes are tasked by Jabba The Hutt to bring his son back safely. Fast-forward to 2026, and in Favreau's/Filoni's film, the Hutt-twins task our heroes to bring their nephew back safely. Something about poetry comes to mind...Today we take a look at the surprising inclusion of this character and how compelling he is within the story, while also furthering Jon Favreau's recurring filmic-theme: fathers and sons. From Iron Man to Chef, Favreau explores these relationships and with The Mandalorian And Grogu, Rotta serves to further continue to explore this theme. A question lingers though... do Hutts engage in polycules? We also have a bit of fun with a Q&A from listeners! What does it take to turn fragrance into something you don't just wear — but actually feel? On today's episode, we welcome Steve Sun, Founder and CEO of Biology Fragrances — a brand redefining scent as a daily ritual rooted in emotional well-being. With a background spanning design, media, and storytelling at companies like The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros., and Paramount Pictures, Steve brings a unique lens to building brands that connect on a deeper level. Raised between Taiwan and the United States, Steve's early experiences with scent—from traditional remedies to everyday rituals—shaped his perspective on fragrance as something functional, not just aesthetic. That perspective led him to study perfumery and ultimately launch Biology Fragrances — a small-batch, plant-based brand designed to support mood, energy, and overall well-being. Today, the brand is growing across DTC, Amazon, and retail, including a nationwide launch in Sprouts Farmers Market, bringing fragrance into a completely new channel. In this episode, Steve shares what it takes to build a new category around “functional fragrance,” how he blends storytelling with science to create emotionally resonant products, and why consumers are starting to think about scent as part of their wellness routine. We also discuss his unconventional approach to distribution, lessons from building billion-dollar entertainment brands, and what it means to create something that truly connects with modern consumers. Steve also reflects on the founder journey, the challenges of educating a new market, and what's next for Biology Fragrances. If you're interested in building a differentiated brand, creating products that connect on a deeper level, or redefining how consumers experience everyday rituals — this episode is for you. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets and Millennium Falcon Smuggler's Run (featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu) opened at Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World on May 26, 2026. Cool Kids Summer is back at Walt Disney World in 2026, and it's better than ever. On May 26, all four theme parks (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom) opened new attractions to kick off the summer season. These include Jessie's Roundup, Goofycore, Soarin' Across America, Bluey's Wild World, Magic of Disney Animation (including Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live), Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu, and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster: Starring the Muppets. This is in addition to Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which recently reopened with major enhancements and upgrades. In this episode, I share my honest review of Cool Kids Summer thanks to a week-long preview hosted by Disney Parks. Looking for daily inspiration? Get a quote from the top leaders in the industry in your inbox every morning. Walter Magnuson is the Executive Director of Winchester Mystery House. With a background that includes guest-facing leadership roles at The Walt Disney Company and experience in hospitality, entertainment, and operations, Walter brings a blend of historical stewardship and modern attraction management to one of the most recognizable historic properties in the United States. Throughout the conversation, he shares insights into preserving the legacy of Sarah Winchester while continuing to evolve the guest experience for modern audiences. In this interview, Walter talks about legends and lore, steering the passion, and providing reassurance. Legends and lore “And the legends and lore of the story is that she sought out a medium… and the medium advised that all the karma is cursing you.” Walter explains how the story of Sarah Winchester continues to fascinate guests more than a century after her passing. He walks through the origins of the home, from Sarah's personal tragedies and the rise of spiritualism in the late 1800s to the unusual architectural features that still define the estate today. The house's winding hallways, stairs leading nowhere, and sealed-off rooms have fueled decades of speculation and intrigue, helping transform the property into a globally recognized attraction. At the same time, Walter emphasizes that the attraction is not solely about ghost stories. The team continues uncovering new historical details about Sarah Winchester's philanthropy, business acumen, and influence during a time when few women held similar power or independence. By balancing the paranormal appeal with deeper historical storytelling, Winchester Mystery House continues to evolve while still honoring the myths and mysteries that first captured public attention. Steering the passion “I think it's really trying to steer that passion in the direction that is most beneficial for us and for the guest experience.” Walter speaks candidly about leading a team of “caretakers” who feel personally connected to the house and its history. Rather than referring to employees as staff members, the organization embraces the idea that everyone is collectively responsible for preserving and sharing Sarah Winchester's legacy. Walter explains that many team members feel deeply protective of the property, sometimes even hesitant to expose certain areas of the house to guests out of fear of damage or overuse. His leadership approach focuses on channeling that passion toward guest-centric thinking. By opening previously restricted spaces, enhancing storytelling, and modernizing parts of the experience, Walter has worked to shift the internal culture toward accessibility and hospitality while still respecting the home's historical significance. He also discusses the realities of operating a privately owned historic attraction, reminding the team that ticket revenue directly funds restoration efforts and keeps the property relevant for future generations. Providing reassurance “It's not escapism and it's not fantasy. It's reassurance.” Walter reflects on lessons he learned during his time at Disney, specifically the philosophy shared by legendary Imagineer John Hench. Walter explains that great attractions do more than entertain. They reassure guests that the world is meaningful, welcoming, and worth exploring. He connects that philosophy directly to Winchester Mystery House and other historic attractions that create emotional experiences capable of inspiring guests long after they leave. Walter also applies this mindset to leadership and organizational culture. Whether discussing neighborhood development around the property or guiding employees through operational change, he consistently emphasizes optimism, communication, and perspective. For him, attractions are not just places people visit. They are places where people reconnect with history, imagination, and each other. That sense of reassurance, he believes, is what makes experiences truly memorable and enduring. Walter can be reached on LinkedIn, as well as by email at walter@winchestermysteryhouse.com. In this episode of The Learning & Development Podcast, David James is joined by Nick Jones of Blue Eskimo to discuss the state of the industry following the launch of the 2026 Blue Eskimo Work & Salary Report. Nick dives into the current market reality, exploring what is actually happening on the ground and how global shifts are impacting the jobs market. The conversation addresses the significant rise in redundancies and identifies which specific roles are being hit hardest as organisations restructure. They look at the disconnect between "strategic" job descriptions and the "hands-on" reality of recruitment, while tackling the question of whether AI is truly replacing jobs or simply forcing the profession to evolve. They look into why many L&D professionals are currently finding themselves unprepared for the job market, the increasing importance of personal branding, and the specific skills needed to remain accountable and valued in 2026. Take your L&D to the next level Take advantage of thousands of hours of analysis. Hundreds of conversations with industry innovators and 25+ years of hands-on global L&D leadership. It's all distilled into one framework to help you level up L&D. Access the L&D Maturity Model here - https://360learning.com/maturity-model KEY TAKEAWAYS AI, budget cuts, and team bloat correction have had an impact. Globally, redundancies are high - but there are signs of recovery. Now, your personal brand really matters. Showcase the fact you operate as a commercial partner and impact the bottom line. Make it easy for hiring managers and stakeholders to understand the value you create and the problems you solve. Treat your CV and profile as live sales tools: show the strategic impact you've had, not just tasks you've completed. Stay ready, continually refresh them - so opportunities find you before you need them. - Nick explains exactly how to do this. Your next move will come more from your network and recruiters, than from job boards - show up where hiring managers actually look. BEST MOMENTS “Redundancies are … through the roof.” “The skills that are perhaps most in demand … are sales skills, marketing skills - stakeholder engagement skills.” “Everybody should have some semblance of a personal brand.” “They can't hold back on projects and expenditure for too long - businesses still need to deliver.” Nick Jones Bio Nick Jones is the owner and director of Blue Eskimo, the UK's leading recruitment specialist for the learning and development and learning technology sectors. With a career rooted in L&D at firms like Qa LTD and Informatics Ctec, Nick earned an MBA from Aston University and co-founded Blue Eskimo to provide targeted talent solutions for the training industry. Mickey Mouse is the most recognizable character on Earth—but in the 1950s, he looked a little… different....and he sold cars! Thanks to Disney's secret ad lab department! If you've ever seen the 1955 Nash Rambler commercials, you might have noticed a version of Mickey that feels more like a modern art experiment than a Disney icon. He was pointy, angular, and selling cars. But why? In this episode of Synergy Loves Company, we're exploring Walt Disney's secret 1950s "Ad Lab." Long before Disneyland was a global phenomenon, Walt was using a hidden studio on the Disney lot—Hurrell Productions—to master the art of television synergy. We're diving into: The mystery of the "Pointy" Mickey Mouse and why he was redesigned for TV. The secret "H-Wing" unit that produced ads for 7-Up, Ipana Toothpaste, and Nash Motors. How Bucky Beaver and Fresh-Up Freddie paved the way for the Disney machine. The "6 Degrees" connection between a 1950s toothpaste jingle and the movie Grease. Walt Disney wasn't just a dreamer; he was a strategic architect who used television commercials as a laboratory to explore television, fund Disneyland, and build the synergy model we know today. What if the reason your marketing isn't working has nothing to do with your ads? In this episode of Sharkpreneur, Seth Greene interviews Shamir Duverseau, Co-Founder and Managing Director at Smart Panda Labs, who explains why the post-click experience is the most overlooked yet critical part of the marketing funnel, especially for high-consideration purchases. He shares how aligning teams, applying behavioral psychology, and improving digital experiences after the click can dramatically increase conversions and overall performance. Key Takeaways:→ Most marketing budgets are spent before the click.→ Trust must be established immediately after the click. → Relevance is the first requirement for engagement. → Enterprise marketing challenges are often people problems. → Managing stakeholders is as important as managing strategy. Throughout his career, he has worked across industries, including travel, entertainment, and technology, with brands such as Southwest Airlines, The Walt Disney Company, and NBCUniversal. The “St. Louis Morning Brief” covers a series of major local controversies beginning with St. Charles voting 7-1 to permanently block large-scale data centers after intense public backlash over development concerns. The crew also reacts to the conviction of a former Manchester-area Boy Scout leader accused of using troop funds for personal expenses before pivoting into a bizarre revelation that The Walt Disney Company consultants advised downtown St. Louis officials to visually disguise vacant buildings with neutral paint colors to improve visitors' perception of safety during major events. Marc and Kim mock the city's “paint over the problem” strategy while discussing Disney's declining movie reputation and the upcoming Mandalorian film featuring Grogu, better known as Baby Yoda. The segment closes with analysis of the escalating legal battle between the St. Louis Police Board and city officials over a disputed $67 million budget shortfall tied to state policing mandates and Rams settlement money.
