The Godfather Part III (1990) Full Movie Reaction, Breakdown, Commentary & Spoiler Review! — with hosts Aaron Alexander & Coy Jandreau diving into the final chapter of Francis Ford Coppola's Corleone saga — a story of guilt, regret, and the inescapable consequences of a life built on violence. Aaron & Coy break down the film's most significant moments: Michael's heartbreaking confession to Cardinal Lamberto, the dangerous web of Vatican politics, the rise of Vincent Mancini (Andy Garcia — Ocean's Eleven, The Untouchables) as the next generation of Corleone power, the unraveling of Michael's relationship with Kay (Diane Keaton), and the devastating opera-house finale that seals the trilogy's tragic arc. They discuss the film's exploration of aging, remorse, and whether redemption is truly possible for a man who sacrificed everything for control. Featuring performances from Talia Shire as Connie Corleone and Joe Mantegna as Joey Zasa, the film carries a mournful tone that contrasts sharply with the ruthless rise of Parts I and II. Aaron & Coy examine how Part III reframes the saga as a cautionary tale — not about success, but about loss — and how its ending delivers one of cinema's most quietly devastating conclusions. Coy Jandreau & Aaron Alexander react to The Godfather Part II (1974), Francis Ford Coppola's landmark crime drama sequel that expands the Corleone saga into an operatic meditation on power, legacy, and moral decay. Widely regarded as one of the greatest sequels—and films—ever made, Part II deepens the tragedy of the Corleone family while mirroring past and present in devastating fashion. The film intercuts two parallel narratives: the ruthless consolidation of power by Michael Corleone (Al Pacino – Scarface, Dog Day Afternoon) in the late 1950s, and the immigrant rise of his father Vito Corleone, portrayed by Robert De Niro (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull) in a career-defining performance. As Michael tightens his grip on the family empire, paranoia and betrayal corrode his relationships, particularly with Kay Adams-Corleone (Diane Keaton – Annie Hall, Something's Gotta Give) and his brother Fredo (John Cazale – The Deer Hunter, Dog Day Afternoon). This week, we discuss two films from director Carl Franklin. The first is Devil in a Blue Dress (1995), a smoky noir set in postwar Los Angeles, where a seemingly simple missing persons job pulls an everyman detective, played by Denzel Washington, into a web of corruption, racial tension and moral compromise. The second is One False Move (1992), starring Bill Paxton and Billy Bob Thornton, a slow-burn crime thriller that begins as a manhunt and evolves into something far more unsettling.   Timestamps What we've been watching (00:00:35) – The Bourne Trilogy, The Big Short, Dumb Money, The Godfather Part II, Dangerous Animals, Black Rabbit, Pluribus Devil in a Blue Dress (00:33:00) One False Move (00:58:00) Coin toss (01:22:20)   Links Instagram - @callitfriendopodcast @munnywales @andyjayritchie   Letterboxd – @andycifpod @fat-tits mcmahon   Justwatch.com – streaming and rental links - https://www.justwatch.com

Sixteen years after the previous film (The Godfather Part II) in this saga won him Oscars for Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Picture...Oscar-winning legend Francis Ford Coppola (Apocolypse Now, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Conversation) returned to both co-write and direct this final entry in the beloved sage of The Corleone Family.  And this time around even though the film was nominated for seven Oscars including Best Picture, it didn't win any.....and the consensus was that it was below the quality for the first two despite including acclaimed performances by its three main stars including Al Pacino (who returned to play Michael Corleone), the late, great Diane Keaton (who returned to play Kay Corleone), and Oscar-nominated Andy Garcia who played Michael's nephew Vincent.  Infact, it was considered by many to be by far the weakest film in the trilogy.  So thirty years later during an extended COVID lock-down, Coppola decided re-edit Part III and by the end of 2020, a newly reworked version was released to both theaters and streaming.  Celebrating The Godfather Part III's 35th Anniversary, we will review this latest version to find out how or IF it improves upon the original version released on Christmas of 1990.   Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Click here to try it out!In this episode, we wade into Chinatown — a sun-bleached noir where water is power, everyone's lying, and the system wins. We talk Jack Nicholson's bandaged nose, Faye Dunaway's glass-shard fragility, John Huston's all-time villainy, and that ending that still guts you. Yes, we address the director caveat up front; then we focus on what's on screen: A precision-engineered thriller that never wastes a line, a clue, or a cut. What we coverWhy “Chinatown”? The title's bleak punchline and what “forget it” really means in a city built on corruption.Follow the water: Droughts, land grabs, cooked records, and a murder that only makes sense when you trace the pipes.Noir done right: Goldsmith's moody trumpet score, razor tailoring, art-deco menace, and how every tiny detail pays off.Iconic moments: The nose slice (cameo alert), the “my sister/my daughter” reveal, and the slow-motion horror of the finale.Performances: Nicholson's cocky PI unravelled, Dunaway's haunted elegance, Huston's monstrous calm. The ethics disclaimer: Separating a notorious off-screen history from on-screen craft — and why that discomfort belongs in the conversation.Context chats: How the screenplay became a template, the year it ran into The Godfather Part II, and why the ending had to be that ending.Should you watch it?If you like your mysteries tidy and comforting, this isn't that. If you want clockwork plotting, glorious craft, and a finish that lingers… it's essential. We're candid, a bit feral, and very fun about it.“Every throwaway line is a breadcrumb. By the time you see the trail, it's already too late.”

Last year, the Pink Smoke Podcast created a series called 1974: 50 Years Later, each episode featuring a different guest who chose a 1974 movie to talk about, ranging from giant blockbusters to minor cult curios and everything else in between. But since all our guests are cool outsiders with eccentric tastes, most of them stayed away from the most iconic movies of that fabled cinematic year, eschewing The Godfather Part II in favor of forgotten TV movies and experimental horror films. While that was just fine with us, we decided it might be a good idea to back up and cover some of the acknowledged classics of 1974, starting with Rainer Werner Fassbinder's Ali: Fear Eats the Soul. The first of four projects released by the ultra-prolific auteur (two theatrical, two for TV), Ali tells the tale of a 60-year-old window cleaner who falls in love with a Moroccan Gastarbeiter half her age, much to the disapproval of their contemporaries. One of the enfant terrible's more gentle movies, it's still populated by his lovably repellent characters in whom Fassbinder seeks to excavate some humanity in a miserable post-war West German society. We discuss the director's destructive creativity, how his worldview is more complicated than those of directors with whom he's often connected (Douglas Sirk and Ken Loach fans maybe give this one a miss) and how his most endearing and connective theme is loneliness. “Look, I don't know what happened, but I own a motel not too far from here, and you'd be welcome to spend the night in one of the empty rooms if you'd like.” We watched Psycho II, directed by Richard Franklin, and suddenly we're hungry for toasted cheese sandwiches. It's been 23 years since Norman Bates was put away, and he's been declared sane! Now Norman is integrating back into society, but someone won't stand by and let that happen. Anthony Perkins and Vera Miles are back, reprising their roles from the original, and they are both forces to be reckoned with. Perkins is playing Norman Bates with nuance and integrating just enough “Norman-isms” from the original performance, while Vera is eating up each scene like she is berating Hitchcock himself. Meg Tilly is also doing some fine work in the best Joyce DeWitt haircuts and cowl-neck sweaters the early 80s had to offer. This may not be “The Godfather Part II,” but as far as sequels over twenty years in the making go, it's a ton of fun.  Thank you for listening, and don't forget to subscribe, rate, and review us on Apple Podcasts! www.patreon.com/moviesthatmadeusgay Facebook/Instagram: @moviesthatmadeusgay Bluesky: @MTMUGPod.bsky.social Scott Youngbauer: Twitter @oscarscott / Instagram @scottyoungballer Peter Lozano: Twitter/Instagram @peterlasagna
