A hobbyist level DJ that once watched the West Coast Hip-Hop cyclone take shape. Chronicling the past can help shape futures.
Hey, everyone. Just as I've gotten started, there's been a need to make a few adjustments so the show will be on a brief break, but will resume after the upcoming holiday, July 4th. The plan was for post content on Wednesday's for music commentary and on select weekend's for mainly music - Saturday's and Sunday's (jazz). Please set your preferences to ensure you receive broadcast notifications that will be resumed as we look to offer biweekly to weekly content. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/must-be-the-music/message

A PREVIEW of what's to come... Is profanity, objectionable subject matter present in music, just novelty, or a necessity with artistic liberty taken under free speech and expression? We know that such extreme measures at curtailing music, targeting certain groups and recording artists have been happening over time for generations. In more recent years, "Rap" music has been used in criminal prosecution in a number of cases, yet music has been cited as not being of a sizable influence to everyday, normally stable people in society. As the old saying goes, "All money ain't good money", my personal belief is that it goes for music and for almost anything that can be propagandized and marketed, having potential influence or persuasiveness over the masses. It becomes a matter of having the constitutional right to free speech and of a legally consenting consumer's right to choose. I wonder that of those in the position of a music creator, it's ultimately a matter of free expression and as a creative, what are the considerations, if any when it comes to the music one chooses to make? Is there pressure to be more daring or more obscene than not? Is there persuasiveness for an artist to be something they're not? Is there a moral compass? Was there ever one? For fans, and audiences, it's about authenticity perhaps compromising what's most appropriate for something offering true contextual perspective. No judgment here. Judgment FREE zone. You be the judge. In another upcoming 'ep that's a bit more babble than boogie. This is a page from the "Black Music Month's" scrapbook that we won't skim over to the next because we fear what's pictured on its page. A fan first and a non-judgmental, perspective, and speculative assessment at most is on the MBTM - Radiovision Podcast Channel. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/must-be-the-music/message
More in commemoration for Black Music Month, 2022 from this new upstart podcast channel. Sharing some perspectives and experiences in varying degrees, having on occasion, happened across those who were fellow recording artists that I'd encounter, albeit for brief moments in a number of situations and in public settings on chance situations. In acknowledgment of those who are among the most musically talented in modern times throughout the history and origin of popular music spanning genres and styles. Some uncommon tracks were played and mixed into the show with some commentary from my viewpoint. In my honest opinion, Prince epitomized musicianship. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/must-be-the-music/message
A random discussion about past history and influences in music with one of my long-time personal friends that became an interview with someone who had firsthand involvement with what would become known as "West Coast Hip-Hop"; was there on the scene before it first began, and would take part in it. They're among those uncredited who had a part in an industry that had an effect on culture. If you viewed NFL Super Bowl 56, a number of the classic "West Coast Hip-Hop" references were apparent during the performance. A.J. speaks from experience as a session musician, arranger, keyboardist, concert tour member, his start as a performance DJ, and Business Manager for various acts including "Rodney O and Joe Cooley", as an integral/core member of Uncle Jamm's Army that experienced some firsts during this period, an A&R Executive/Talent Scout, and General Manager for Egyptian Empire Records, has worked alongside West Coast recording artist, innovator and legend of West Coast Hip-Hop/Freakbeat/Electro-Funk Egyptian Lover who's currently touring and has been for over 30 years, since the early 80s. Less babble, more boogie. A danceable groovesation. A little background on the poll and question (attached). There are NO wrong answers, BTW: Scenario: It's the mid-70s and you've got a decision to make about what music-oriented dance show you're gonna peep out as you or your older fam are getting ready to hit the streets to kick off the weekend… Do you catch Soul Train or American Bandstand? —OR BONUS QUESTION: Do you flip-flop, channel surf (turn the knob, adjust the "rabbit-ear's" between the 2 when this group is scheduled to appear knowing full well that the ST-Line hits at :45 past the hour? Let's have some fun with it. Feel free to "vote" and answer the question posed below. More babble, less boogie. Some of my favorite tracks throughout my life, my personal impressions, and some historical information relayed. The idea of this channel is to play some music and talk about it from the standpoint and position of an enthusiast recounting personal experiences and related influences. That's the intention behind this podcast. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/must-be-the-music/message

Sobering thoughts encompass me and have permeated my mind's expanses, as my eyes fill with tears. Moving forward, as we each must do to simply keep functioning. It's at my very core from which I'm driven to grasp something more positive to promote love, peace, harmony and happiness even if by the megabyte, the segment, the moments of time. Far less is it at all about generating much more than monetization. Music can be a voice for the voiceless. It can bring people together in times of crisis, and be a salve for easing the pain. In some measure, that's my purpose here. What I'm feeling I can do. To promote wellness beyond just myself. Be well. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/must-be-the-music/message
