Have you been stuck in traffic in town recently? Government has acknowledged the current disruption, saying it's unfortunate but unavoidable. Our reporter Kevin Ruiz has been speaking to the Transport Ministry's Stuart Harrison. During the summer fire risks increase for a number of reasons: the dry conditions, increased electrical usage - especially to cool us down - and... BBQs. High temperatures and dry vegetation create ideal conditions for wildfires, which is a threat for much of Spain and Portugal, and also the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. We spoke to Liam Byrne - the GFRS's Station Officer for Fire Safety.Christina Giuffre has written a Children's book, called: ‘Dear Little One: You're Perfect, As You Are'. It's illustrated by Otávio Valões who brings the adventures of Sunny and Sheepito beautifully to life. She's officially launching in Gibraltar in September and in Australia later in the year. We caught up with Christina in the studio. And it'll be island vibes only at El Quari this Thursday evening. Camp Bay will host Reggae Jam! It's the last event of the Summer Nights series, which included the SLOP at Eastern Beach and the 90's Boogie at Casemates. From Jackson, Mississippi, to the WNBA, and now to the coaching staff at the University of Iowa — Lasondra “Boogie” Barrett's journey is one of resilience, legacy, and transformation. In this episode of SportsLifeTalk's You Got Next, we sit down with Boogie to unpack the chapters of a basketball life defined by excellence and purpose.Raised in a tight-knit, sports-loving community, Boogie shares how her early love for competition, shaped by pick-up games with the boys and her father's influence as a referee, set the foundation for a powerhouse career. She reflects on becoming a McDonald's All-American and a top-tier high school recruit from Mississippi — a state with no shortage of elite talent. Her college days at LSU were marked by brilliance and grit. As an All-American and SEC Freshman of the Year, Boogie was a centerpiece of a dominant Tigers program. But it was her relationship with the late Coach Tasha Butts — both a mentor and a role model — that left a lasting impression. Boogie opens up about how Coach Butts' impact continues to shape her coaching philosophy today. The conversation then shifts to her international stage moment with Team USA at the U19 World Championship, where she helped lead the team to a gold medal after an early setback. That championship mindset carried her to the WNBA, where she was a first-round draft pick — becoming only the seventh player in LSU history to reach that milestone. After years of competing at the highest level, both in the WNBA and overseas, Boogie transitioned from playing to coaching. She talks about stops at Houston, FIU, Louisiana Tech, and Georgia Tech — and how each role sharpened her leadership skills. Now, as an assistant coach at Iowa, Boogie is embracing a new challenge in the Big Ten and bringing her player-first, culture-driven mindset to one of the most passionate fan bases in women's basketball. And off the court? You'll get to know a different side of Boogie — the gardener. She shares how tending to tomatoes, okra, and collard greens gives her peace and perspective in the fast-paced world of coaching. “It's just like coaching,” she says. “You plant, you nurture, and you help people grow.”Boogie's journey is packed with wisdom for athletes, coaches, and anyone chasing a purpose-driven life. From navigating life after playing to honoring her mentors and finding joy in the process, this episode is a must-listen for anyone who loves the game and the stories behind it.

(Encore presentation) The film adaptation of In The Heights from Lin-Manuel Miranda is a joyous spectacle of singing, dancing, and asserting your dignity in small ways.Topics discussed:There are multiple elements of hip-hop culture present in the film - and the rapping is on point. Several Latin cultures are represented, showing the diversity of Washington Heights. The vocal talent is top notch and the dancing and choreography sizzle. The film weaves in serious elements that give the light and bright storytelling some drama and weight. There are multiple story lines, all tied towards a common theme of realizing dreams. In the late 70s, disco was everywhere. Songs like “Disco Inferno,” “I Will Survive” and “Brick House” topped the charts. Disco had been created and embraced by Black people, Latino people, LGBT+ people, and women. It was fun and funky. It was freeing and empowering. …but *some* folks didn't like having disco balls shoved in their faces. So, when a 24-year-old Chicago shock jock began hosting “death to disco” rallies at local bars, he developed a loyal following of young, disgruntled dudes. The shock jock's popularity soon caught the eye of the Chicago White Sox. They needed to sell tickets for an upcoming doubleheader. What if they ran a “Disco Demolition Night” promotion? It would be totally fun! Things definitely wouldn't get out of hand! Remember, kids, history hoes always cite their sources! For this episode, Kristin pulled from: The documentary, “The Saint of Second Chances” The documentary, “The War on Disco” “When ‘Disco Sucks!' echoed around the world,” by Tony Scalafani for Today.com “Disco demolition: Bell-bottoms be gone!” by Andy Behrens for ESPNChicago.com “We rock ‘n' rollers will resist – and we will triumph!” by Kirstin Butler for PBS.org “Forty years later, disagreement about disco demolition night,” by Gary Waleik for WBUR.org “Baseball's showman,” by Nick Acocella for ESPN.com Are you enjoying An Old Timey Podcast?
