Boogie-woogie went mainstream in America during the war, as evidenced by the music of Glenn Miller and the Andrews Sisters.
In this edition of Roaming St. Louis, KMOX host Scott Jagow visits the brand new Key Burger Bar and Boogie in the Midtown/Grand Center Arts District area. It's the latest addition to the neighborhood from the Kranzberg Arts Foundation.

Boogie with heavy drums from The CJP Band feat Nolo. Percussive dancefloor grooves from African Roots Of Jazz. A big tune from Mala & Magugu on Deep Medi. Drum & Bass from Kathryn Brenna. What is the definition of "soul" ? According to the Oxford English Dictionary, it is "emotional or intellectual energy or intensity". Well that certainly sums it up for me. "The Soul Explosion" is all about sharing the tunes and the music that I love with a wider audience. The aim is to cover a wide range of musical genres, from soul, boogie, modern soul, northern soul, rare groove, jazz, funk, soulful garage, gospel, jazz-funk, old skool hip-hop, motown, disco and everything in between. Whatever you hear on "The Soul Explosion" has one thing in common - every single track is a CHOOON (no fillers) !! Hope you enjoy listening as much as I will playing for you

Hello again. We've finally swept up the ectoplasm, deactivated the haunted portal, and located studio cats. Which can only mean one thing — the séance is over, Halloween has passed, and it's now that strange liminal period where people are still finding fake cobwebs in their hair. Also known as: the week of Bonfire Night. Yeah we remembered the fifth. We're back to continue our discussion sbout — yes, the Disney Channel Original Movie about Boogie monsters and bed looking... If you're new here, I'm Janet — your friendly neighborhood voiceover bot and the only one still seeing spectral pop stars in they RAM. Don't worry, the exorcism took... Mostly. Now, the usual disclaimers: there will be spoilers, there will be profanity, and there will be at least one moment where someone accidentally says something profound in a deeply sarcastic way... If you'd like to catch up, revisit the memories, or simply marvel at how many weeks we've spent casting pods, head to B S Reactor dot com — the place where reason goes for a nap and chaos makes a playlist. Now then — dust off your broomsticks, extinguish the last jack-o-lanterns, and let's get back to Don't look under the bed post-Halloween edition.

Next minute, a wild @tuggspeedman-dj rides in on a funky gust of wind to take control of the wheel. One of the selection experts to come out of Mancuso Discotheque, you know you're in for a ride. What follows is 2 hours of downtempo, disco, funk, nu disco, house edits and breaks from across the groovy spectrum. Never exceeding 116bpm is officially part of his rider now, giving pause and creating opportunities for both human and frequencies to breathe and experience. Before we knew it, the funk had taken hold, hips swing, heads bob, shoulders loosen and arms flail. Excellence from start to finish. Big thanks to Tugg Speedman for his contribution. As always Like and comment for ID's or just to say G'day, xoxo Cosmic Boogie
Episode 370: DJ BOOGIE BLIND "The Death of Originality in DJ Culture" This week on @RoadPodcast, the crew sits down with @BoogieBlind to talk about his Bronx roots, coming up with Lyrics to Go, and learning from Roc Raida (2:10). Blind shares how he chose DJing over basketball after seeing Roc Raida's success and reflects on the original “X-Men Rules” (9:10). He pays respect to Clark Kent, opens up about his battle DJ mentality, and talks about “protecting his energy” in an era where copying is normalized (12:10). Crooked and Blind discuss the “me against the world” mindset of battle DJs, how relationships change as you grow (15:16), and the difference between people's online personas and real-life character. Boogie calls today's scene “the most cut-and-paste generation of DJs” and addresses imitation, technology, and Serato's impact (26:05). They debate content vs. ability, give props to younger DJs pushing boundaries (24:01), and Blind shares his approach to sets: half battle DJ, half party rocker (32:01). He recalls playing @Shaboozey at Dante's Hi-Fi, discusses vinyl culture, and opens up about self-doubt, crowd control, and staying a fan of the craft (44:01). Blind also speaks on his party “Easily” (51:01), the mic game in the 2010s (1:00:01), his love for island music and production (1:13:01), and the crew's take on quick mixing (1:27:01). In this week's Challenge Fandom Podcast roundtable, we're breaking down The Challenge Season 41, Episode 14: “We Have to Boogie” and it's official: Theo Campbell is playing the game everyone else only thinks they're playing. From the chaotic Runes Race daily to the awkward Weight Me Up elimination, we get into why Theo's social reads, power positioning, and subtle manipulation have him quietly running the house while the “big alliance” keeps fumbling basic numbers strategy. We address Aviv's rookie energy, Turbo's controlling behavior toward Sydney, and why Theo might actually be the only thing saving this season right now.We also discuss the current state of The Challenge, what we foresee for the future and how we could see it being saved along with our plans moving forward after Challenge 41 and a little hint at what's coming when we turn off the lights!
The Hill Country Blues is, in effect for many of us, a form of early american music that is hiding in plain site. Take one part, fife and folk from the british isles, another part west african polyrhythms. Mix european balladeering with caribbean hypnotic rhythms. What begins as drum and fife music deep in the hills of northern Mississippi and Alabama blended with other blues from the region then heavily influenced the likes of Rock legends like Bo Diddley. We're re-discovering what Hill Country blues is all about. I'm joined by 2025 Massachusetts beat poet laureate Joshua Michael Stewart. His work has appeared in Modern Haiku, Massachusetts Review, Brilliant Corners, New Flash Fiction Review, and Best Small Fictions 2025. His latest book is Welcome Home, Russell Edson—a graphic novel & prose poem hybrid created in collaboration with illustrators Bret M. Herholz and Aaron J. Krolikowski.https://joshuamichaelstewartauthor.com What they say about JMS: There's a fearlessness in Joshua Michael Stewart's poetry—tough, tightly written narratives and monologues about living poor with broken people (some of whom are your closest relatives) in hard times. This heartfelt gritty work reminds me of the hardscrabble accounts of humanity in some of our best poets—the work of Ai, Bruce Weigel, and Linda McCarriston's landmark book, Eva-Marie. Stewart exercises the courage of truth telling and takes the revenge of real poetic craft. As Bruce Weigel says "Say it clearly and you make it beautiful, no matter what." Or as Stewart says, "Poets are the battered spouses of hope." You can't help but respect the maker of these streamlined vehicles, for his guts and his unsentimental, vivid poems. -Tony Hoagland

Making his way across the country on Route 66, Don Crost is bringing the importance of Shelter Box to the world. ShelterBoxes include family-size tents, though the contents differ depending on the disaster and climate. This week, we're starting our "Identity, Redefined at the Root" series, and we're using Ephesians to establish and explore the blessing and position of being a believer, a part of the church, and trying to understand what it looks like to win! The heartbeat of Church on the Rock is to help people discover how they can LOVE God and LOVE one another, LIVE with passion, purpose and freedom, and LEAD others to this same experience in Jesus. We simply say, “helping others Love, Live, and Lead in Jesus". HORROR-IKONEN gesucht. Does Idlewild got that swing, or ain't got that swing?Set in Prohibition-era Georgia, 1930s, Idlewild portrays the story of two childhood friends going in completely different directions. Percival—played by André 3000—is a quiet, introverted church pianist who dreams of playing bigger stages, and then there's Rooster, Big Boi's character, running the hottest speakeasy in town, the Idlewild club, dealing with gangsters and all the chaos that comes with it. It's a story about friendship, dreams, and survival —all set to an OutKast soundtrack in a glittering, dangerous Jazz Age world. Topics discussed:
