How can AI improve our healthcare industry? Healthcare professionals are amongst the most overworked, with half of all US doctors being burnt out and 42% of UK  doctors feeling unable to cope with their weekly workload. Studies show that burnout is linked to increased rates of error and harm, which in the medical industry could mean the difference between catching a diagnosis in time or risking a patient's life. But Dr Charlotte Blease argues that this need not be the case. It is time to thoughtfully implement the new technologies of our age to revolutionize the healthcare industry. They are sticking with their latest plans to destroy the majority of native habitat at the Convention Center for the expansion project (see photo – at least half of the habitat on the south side of the property and within the driving loop will be removed). There is officially an agenda item (https://tinyurl.com/ac53j9j3) to seek approval for the CC expansion plans on the Cameron County Commissioners' Court meeting for this coming *Tuesday, June 17, at 930am*. They need a majority vote from the commissioners to move forward because the property is on county land. It sounds like Commissioners Garza, Benavides, and Ruiz may be on our side thanks to all of your support so far, but who knows what the truth is and what has been happening behind our backs. Since her birth in February, Asian baby elephant Tula-tu has become a star attraction at the Oregon Zoo. Asian elephants are endangered, with roughly 40,000 of them remaining in the wild, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature. With all the attention Tula-tu has been getting, it’s easy to overlook the presence of Chendra, a Bornean elephant who has been in the zoo’s care for more than 25 years and whose relatives in the wild are even more at risk of extinction.  Only about a thousand Bornean elephants remain, mostly in the forested northern tip of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia.  For more than a decade, the Oregon Zoo has been supporting efforts to help save Bornean elephants. Last month, the zoo sponsored a symposium in Borneo attended by government officials; NGOs that are helping to protect habitat and reduce conflicts between people and elephants; representatives from the palm oil and tourism industries and other participants. At the symposium, the Sabah Wildlife Department launched a new plan co-developed by the Oregon Zoo to care for the growing number of calves and juvenile elephants that are being separated from their herds or found orphaned, like Chendra.  Dr. Sharon Glaeser is the Oregon Zoo’s elephant conservation lead. She joins us with more details about the fight to save the world’s smallest elephant.
