My Obsession is a podcast that shines a light on the passions of people. In each episode, guests are interviewed about a topic that makes their heart beat. From Marcus Privitt. Because sometimes joy comes from experiencing somebody else's joy.
The My Obsession podcast has inspired tons of cool stories. One thing that keeps coming up is other people recommending guests. Sure enough, I was recommended to reach out to Jess Modaff about her obsession: Disaster-Survival stories. Yes, there are people out there who obsess with that...and yes, Jess is one of them. Join us on episode 19 as Jess and I talk about what makes a disaster story a disaster story, what types of disaster stories there are, and hear Jess share some of her favorites. And be prepared: she gets super giddy when she talks about them. Find out more on the My Obsession website. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

Oldies 103.3 - BOSTON. In this episode, Matt Dennis opens your mind to the beautiful and mysterious art known at Psychedic Music. In it, I discover the same thing that I've discovered after so many of these episodes -- when you have a host to take you through something they care about, the topic becomes a source of beauty. Matt Dennis is the man.
Linda and I went back and forth on what to do for her interview. Gardening? No. Teaching? No. We kept on getting broader and broader until...well...we got to "living" itself. That's right. Linda is passionate about living well. Living wholeheartedly. Living enthusiastically. Enjoy.
My friend Mike joins me for a relaxed Sunday conversation to talk about his favorite hobby: drumming. We talk about Mike's first band (listen to than Red Lights and Plastic HERE), what makes a good drummer, and hear some of Mike's favorite drummers. Also, I treat this as my opportunity to ask all my common-sense questions about drumming, because let's be honest - I have no idea what I'm talking about. "The difference between the good drummer and the bad drummer is not their skills - it's their ability to do what the song requires of them." Find out more on the My Obsession website. Becci Harrington, a self-proclaimed connoisseur, joins me on My Obsession via Google Hangouts for a discussion of one of her favorite people: Jimmy Fallon. Jimmy Fallon has probably crossed your television or YouTube queue more times than you'd expect. Becci's hilarious, and together we explore who Jimmy is, what it would take for Becci and Jimmy to meet in person, and what they would do when they go on a cruise together. We also feature two Jimmy Fallon skits: EW! with Will Farrell & Camp Winnipesaukee with Justin Timberlake. Find out more on the My Obsession website.

The #MeToo movement spread virally in October 2017 as a hashtag used on social media to help demonstrate the widespread prevalence of sexual assault and harassment, especially in the workplace. It followed soon after the public revelations of sexual misconduct allegations against Harvey Weinstein. Emily Richey-Smith of Amirah Boston joins me and Kyra Drescher-Dennis to discuss the #MeToo movement and why we should pay attention to what's going on around us. Emily will be our featured speaker at Highrock North Shore's next StoutFaith event. We'll drink beer, eat food, and talk about the #MeToo movement. We'd love to have you join us. The event will take place at the Espacio Community Space in Salem, MA on Sunday, Apr 15 at 6pm. Visit our Facebook event for more info. When you watch the news and hear about a home ruined by a fire, abusive homes, or even somebody arrested for a drug abuse, have you ever thought about what happens to the kids of the family? They often go into Foster Care. It doesn't make the headlines for the evening news. It's not the sexiest topic to discuss. Foster Care is an afterthought for so many, yet its a structure that has families who are in dire need of our attention, focus, and care. In this episode, Lynnette Lovasco and Kyra Drescher-Dennis sit and talk Foster Care with me. Lynnette has been a foster parent to over 20 children - in the process, she's seen parts of life that many of us don't get to see. Kyra is a Social Worker, and adds a GREAT layer to the entire conversation. It was a joy to be surrounded by these two women. Lynnette will be our featured speaker at Highrock North Shore's next StoutFaith event. We'll drink beer, eat food, and talk about Foster Care. We'd love to have you join us. The event will take place at the House of Seven Gables in Salem, MA on Sunday, Feb 25 at 6pm. Visit our Facebook event for more info. Rachel and I didn't plan on doing this topic at first, but her obsession interfered and had other plans. She texted me one night and said, "Marcus? I think I gotta do my interview on Jack." So here it is. Rachel and I sit at Dane Street Beach in Beverly, MA and talk about her love for island-folk musician Jack Johnson. Rachel shares her love for his music, activism, and lyrics. We also talk about the time that she made ocean collages, listened to Curious George soundtracks, and wrote a research paper on Jack Johnson. Jack Johnson owns all music in this episode -- the use of his music in this episode is protected by the Fair Use Agreement. ---------- If you are interested in appearing on the show, e-mail us at myobsessionpodcast@gmail.com. When I launched My Obsession, I had several people mention, "Oh, you gotta talk to Aaron about Airplanes. He LOVES airplanes." I was stunned. I had no idea Aaron liked airplanes or knew anything about them. Discovering stories like this is the joy of this podcasting project. In this episode, Aaron and I sit outside, sip carrot juice and tequila, listen to airplanes fly overhead, and talk about his love for the passenger air industry. Aaron shares a bit about his favorite planes and what he loves about the industry before slam dunking and ending with a story about the time he rode first class and got stuck on a train in Russia. Yes, that's real. ---------- If you are interested in appearing on the show, e-mail us at myobsessionpodcast@gmail.com.
