In the latest episode of The Line Podcast, recorded on May 23, 2025, Matt and Jen check in on the early turbulence of the Carney era.First up: the new cabinet. There's a new energy minister visiting Calgary, staffing delays across the board, and yes — god help us — Marco Mendicino is still around. That's bad news for almost everyone, but possibly justice of a sort for Mendicino himself. They also start to sketch out what could prove to be Carney's eventual undoing. Along the way, Matt makes a rare — and oddly impassioned — defence of Justin Trudeau: no, he says, Trudeau wasn't great. But he wasn't as bad as some Liberals now seem desperate to believe. This episode of The Line Podcast is brought to you by Unsmoke Canada. Canada can be a global leader in reducing the harm caused by smoking, but it requires actionable steps, including giving adult smokers the information they need to choose potentially less harmful alternatives. Learn more at Unsmoke.ca.In the second segment, your hosts look ahead at the storm clouds gathering. A royal visit. A looming postal strike. And Jen has a message for the posties: doing this twice in one year might come back to bite you. Then Matt walks through Trump's latest missile defence announcement — yes, the so-called “golden dome” — and raises a pointed question: is Canada about to join a multi-hundred-billion-dollar ballistic missile defence system? If so, is this an elbows-up or elbows-down moment? And more importantly: did anyone ask Mike Myers first? This episode of On The Line is brought to you by Innovative Medicines Canada. With a new government in place, one thing remains clear: Canada must continue to prioritize patients and healthcare innovation. Innovative Medicines Canada is focused on collaborating with all levels of government to improve access to life-saving medicines and develop a healthcare system that prioritizes patients, ignites innovation, and drives economic growth. Canada's innovative medicines sector plays a critical role—not just in health outcomes, but in keeping us competitive on the global stage. That's why, even during a moment of political change, Innovative Medicines Canada is staying focused on the issues that matter most to Canadians. And as Canada moves forward with national pharmacare, Innovative Medicines Canada believes it's possible to expand access without limiting choice—by strengthening what works and fixing what doesn't. Visit innovativemedicines.ca to learn more. Finally, Matt and Jen turn to a grim and serious story: the brutal murder of two young Israeli embassy staffers in Washington, D.C. They discuss the how it really shouldn't be this hard to stake out a moral position on this issue, and yet, some people sure did find a way to screw it up. From there, Matt explains how a cascading failure of institutions — police, courts, politics — has created a dangerous void in Canada. And, tragically, the people being failed first and hardest are Canadian Jews. All that, and more, in the latest episode of The Line Podcast. The wildfires raging in the Los Angeles area and the 7.3 earthquake off the North Coast of California just over a month ago has put disaster preparedness back in the spotlight. State Assemblymember Chris Rogers knows quite a bit about disaster preparedness. He has hands on experience with wild fires, floods and earthquakes. His advice – prepare now, before the next fire, flood or earthquake.
Healey Mendicino, the president of Port of Subs, began as a franchisee and opened the chain's 100th restaurant. Now, she's serving as president and plotting a path to 500 units in five years with a commitment to quality, differentiation, and leading as a best-in-class franchisor.
We're joined today by Sid Garza-Hillman, the Wellness Programs Director at the Stanford Inn, to learn about this and the opportunity it might present for you. In this episode, you'll hear about how Sid got started, how he integrates wellness into every aspect of the guest experience, what he's learned through it all - and how to use your hospitality business to change lives long after guests leave your property.Sid's podcastSid's YouTube channelSid's booksWhat did you think about this episode? Season 3 Part 2 of the Travels With Randy Podcast is here! The Oregon And California Coast And The Stars At Death Valley Part 2 of Randy's yearlong adventure finds him headed south on 101 from Washington into Oregon and then into California. The weather was very poor in Oregon and so Randy didn't see many opportunities to stop and take scenic pics. He'll try the Oregon coast again some other time. California, though, was a completely different matter. Randy travelled down the entire Cali coastline over several days, marveling at the beauty of the northern Cali Redwoods and the creepy Humboldt County winding roads and scenery (see Murder Mountain on Netflix ) . He then visited Bubba and Mrs. Bubba's favorite places, Mendicino and Little River. He continued to follow the coastline down past San Francisco and San Jose and Monterey to the Lompoc area and Vandenberg Space Force Base. Randy then turned Snuffy east and drove across the state to Death Valley, where he experienced the most incredible night sky he's ever seen. Finally, Snuffy came to rest near Camp Pendleton, where Randy will stay and work for a while until it's time to head to Spring Training! Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre is calling on Mendicino to resign, though all the public safety minister is committing to is a new “policy directive” allowing for more information to be shared. A rise in violent crime, including attacks on public transit, has many Canadians concerned about safety in their communities. Pair that with debates over gun control, bail reform and worries about human trafficking, and there is a lot to talk about with Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino. Following a recent pledge to do more to combat cross-border crime alongside the U.S. attorney general and secretary of homeland security, Mercedes Stephenson sits down with Mendicino to talk about what the federal government is doing now to help keep Canadians safer. Plus, Stephenson speaks with David Frum, political commentator and staff writer at The Atlantic, about what to keep an eye on as the 2024 U.S. presidential campaign gets underway.
In North York, Ont., Marco Mendicino, public safety minister and MP for Eglinton–Lawrence, announces federal funding for research in aging and brain health. He is joined by Ya'ara Saks, MP for York Centre, Allison Sekuler, president and chief scientist of the Centre for Aging and Brain Health Innovation, and Adriana Shnall, program director of the Koschitzky Centre for Innovations in Caregiving. Responding to questions from reporters, Mendicino comments on the government's response to the proliferation of 3D-printed firearms in Canada.

Electoral interference is a concern around the globe. And shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that there are allegations of it happening here in Canada. We've seen a rise in the use of mis-and-disinformation when it comes to politics. And convincing all of us that it didn't have an impact on the outcome isn't going to be easy.
It's something a bit different for this space today. I had a conversation this morning with the Public Safety Minister of Canada. Minister Marco Mendicino talked about the financial support of a group working towards reducing gun violence and death in Nova Scotia. This is part of that conversation.

GUEST: Peggy Nash, Former NDP Finance Critic, and author of Women Winning Office: An Activist's Guide To Getting Elected, available May 2022 - Any federal attempt to unmask Chinese foreign agents must be “culturally sensitive,” Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino (Eglinton—Lawrence, ON) said last night. Legislators have sought passage of a Foreign Agents Registration Act similar to a law enacted by the United States in 1938, according to Blacklock's Reporter. “To deal with threats to national security we need agencies to be inclusive, diverse and culturally sensitive so Canadians can have trust and confidence that as we are taking actions to mitigate against threats to national security they believe we are consistently going to act in the national interest,” said Mendicino. How is this appropriate and not a conflict of interest? GUEST: Duff Conacher, Co-Founder of Democracy Watch

It is that time of the week where we dig deep into all things Ottawa and lots of questions are being asked about why former Immigration Minister, Marco Mendicino, and the Privy Council Office backdated documents in an apparent bid to mislead a federal judge in a trademark dispute. And he won't talk. And it appears the records now seem to be blacked out. Except the date and email addresses. Tom Korski, Managing Editor of Blacklocks Reporter, joined us and said that the big question is - why would the minister issue a fake order in council? That and more on today's Blacklock's Check In.

Let’s start today with our friends from the North… https://thepostmillennial.com/trudeau-liberals-ban-on-handgun-imports-set-to-take-effect-august-19?utm_campaign=64487 Trudeau Liberals' ban on handgun imports set to take effect August 19 In May, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau revealed that his government would be moving to implement a national freeze on handgun ownership, essentially making it impossible to buy, sell, transfer, or import of firearms in Canada. On Friday, the Liberals announced that the temporary ban on handgun imports would be taking effect on August 18 as a "stopgap" while the more comprehensive national freeze moves through the legislative process. Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino and Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly held a joint press conference in Etobicoke on Friday to discuss the move, which according to CTV News, was pushed through without the approval of Parliament. "There's no doubt that there is a very pressing issue that lies before us," Mendicino began, "and that is the need, the necessity to eradicate gun violence, one of the most pernicious and complex social harms that we see visited upon our communities every day." He went on to announce that in order to hasten the implementation of the handgun freeze laid out in Bill C-21, "nearly all individuals and businesses in Canada will be banned from importing handguns" beginning August 19. Joly explained that as foreign minister, she has "the authority to deny any import or export permit application that is contrary to Canada's security." She noted that when Trudeau announced the freeze in May, there was an "uptick" in guns being purchased by Canadians. "We want to prevent that," she said, explaining that since most guns in Canada are not made in Canada, implementing a ban on imports would effectively ensure no new guns are purchased legally. The move to ban handguns has faced pushback from many who question its effectiveness. In 2019, for example, Vancouver police Chief Adam Palmer said that Canada already had very strong firearms regulations in place and that no further action was required. He added that the vast majority of gun crimes, especially those with handguns, are committed using illegal guns, thus it makes very little sense to ban an already prohibited weapon. https://www.theepochtimes.com/southern-california-city-to-consider-banning-abortions-declaring-sanctuary-for-life_4646733.html?utm_source=partner&utm_campaign=BonginoReport California City to Consider Banning Abortions, Declaring ‘Sanctuary for Life’ Officials in the City of San Clemente, California, will consider a resolution Aug. 16 that would ban abortion and declare the city a “sanctuary for life.” The resolution defines the beginning of human life to be the moment of conception and would make it the city’s declared duty to protect that life until natural death. If passed, it would declare the city’s support for the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent overturning of Roe v. Wade and ban the act of abortion, abortion clinics, and abortion pills in the city. The resolution allows exceptions for women at risk of losing their lives in the process of birth and for victims of rape or incest. It also suggests that human beings do not have the authority to decide to end the life of the unborn. “We believe that life is God-ordained and God is the author and finisher of every life,” the resolution states. “[A]s a city council, we will protect and sustain life at every stage.” The resolution cites Poelker v. Doe of 1977—a legal precedent that allowed a city in Missouri to refuse to provide publicly funded hospitals for nontherapeutic abortions even though it provided facilities for childbirth—saying that “the Constitution does not forbid a state or county or city … from expressing a preference for normal childbirth instead of abortion.” Councilman Steve Knoblock, who proposed the resolution, hopes it will help to initiate change within California, considering the current trend in pro-abortion laws. “The ultimate purpose of government is to protect the life and liberty of humans including unborn individuals,” Knoblock told The Epoch Times in an interview. Councilwoman Laura Ferguson told the City News Service Aug. 3 that it was a “distraction” from more important topics in the city—such as homelessness—when abortion is “something already legal and codified in state law.” A spokesperson for the state Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office said access to abortion remains fully protected under state law, according to the City News Service. Mario Mainero, Associate Dean for Chapman University’s law school, told The Epoch Times this resolution would have no legal effect because state law pre-empts city law. “California state law permits abortion up to fetal viability and no city can counter that,” Mario said. “They can’t ban abortion clinics because that would violate state law and they can’t do that.” Armored Republic The Mission of Armored Republic is to Honor Christ by equipping Free Men with Tools of Liberty necessary to preserve God-given rights. Greg Abbott on Sunday after a second bus full of illegal migrants arrived at his doorstep. Adams gave a news conference Sunday morning at the Port Authority where he greeted an incoming bus of around 40 migrants — only 14 of whom disembarked in the Big Apple. https://nypost.com/2022/08/05/nyc-mayor-adams-request-photos-of-city-job-applicants-to-increase-diversity/ Adams asks for photos of city job applicants in effort to increase diversity: report Mayor Eric Adams is collecting headshots of potential city workers in a thinly-veiled effort to increase diversity, according to a new report. Adams has requested city agencies to provide photographs of potential hires to City Hall as candidates go through the interview process for city jobs ranging from assistant commissioner to departmental press secretary, Politico reported Thursday. Several unnamed city officials told the outlet that the request is clearly an effort to hire more diverse staffers. However, Adams maintains that it will merely help him recognize his employees in the sprawling city workforce. “Everyone knew what it was. There was no question. It was the first thing everybody said: ‘We’re going to start counting complexions now,’” one recently-departed City Hall employee told Politico. The majority of the officials interviewed by the outlet — who requested anonymity to speak freely about the internal measure — said they supported a more diverse workforce but worried the practice is already causing the Adams administration to make hiring decisions with a greater emphasis on race and ethnicity than merit. Compounding the issue, nearly every official Politico spoke to also said the headshot request created another snag in the drawn-out hiring process — straying away from the mayor’s signature motto of “get stuff done” at a time when city job vacancies are unusually high. About 8 percent of municipal jobs were vacant as of April, according to data from the Citizens Budget Commission. Politico obtained emails sent by the mayor’s team to about a dozen high-ranking officials at other city agencies asking them to submit headshots of people they hope to employ for Adam’s own review. One official said they were verbally told that Adams wanted agencies to hire people who “reflect the constituencies we serve.” Hiring managers aren’t expected to ask job candidates for headshots, but instead grab photos from social media sites like LinkedIn to appease the mayor’s request, two sources told Politico. https://www.outkick.com/jon-gruden-email-leak-hit-job-agent/ JON GRUDEN’S AGENT BELIEVES FORMER COACH’S EMAILS BEING LEAKED WAS A HIT JOB: ‘HE’S NOT A RACIST’ We’re approaching the one-year mark since Jon Gruden was forced to resign as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders following a scandal involving an email leak, but his agent is still going to bat for his client, now calling it “a hit job.” Gruden stepped down as the Raiders’ head coach in October of 2021 after emails directed at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell were leaked that contained racist and homophobic comments. The emails were discovered in what was a league investigation into the Washington Commanders’ workplace culture. An email reportedly implied that Gruden was annoyed that the NFL forced the then St. Louis Rams to draft “queers,” which is a reference to the team drafting Michael Sam in 2014. Gruden reportedly sent an email making fun of the size of NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith’s lips. “Dumboriss Smith has lips the size of Michelin tires,” the email from 2011 reportedly read. The collection of emails dated back to Gruden’s time at ESPN, before he joined the Raiders for his second stint as head coach. With the original investigation not directly pointed at Gruden, his agent Bob LaMonte is convinced the NFL was simply out to get his client. “I can tell you right now that was a hit job,” Bob LaMonte told JoeBucsFan.com. “Why now, of all things, does that come out in an investigation that had already gone away? It was 10 years ago. And then why Jon and why the Raiders? He wasn’t even in the league at the time of those e-mails…That’s the tragedy of it. You can say what you want, but if anyone really understands Jon, they know he’s not a racist. That’s quite obvious.” LaMonte’s comments about Gruden echo those of legendary college football broadcaster, Brent Musburger, who was also the former radio broadcaster for the Raiders. Report: Raiders Brent Musburger Breaks Silence on Jon Gruden- Play 2:40 - 5:29 Gruden has since filed a lawsuit against the NFL and Goodell as he believes the league sought to ruin his career and make an example of him. The NFL looked to dismiss the case, but a judge denied that ask. Now, let’s end things on more of a positive or interesting note, because not everything is bad news out there: https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/eyes-up-for-perseid-meteor-shower-and-saturn-show/ The PUR-SEE-IDS meteor shower is one of the best shows all year for “shooting stars”. Though the Perseids have been active since July 14, the frequency of meteors hurtling through the sky is now heating up this week. In fact, Perseids can produce up to 150 meteors per hour under dark skies! Scientists say the peak time to view this shower will be on the night of Thursday, August 11 & Friday the 12th. The full moon that night may make it tougher to spot the meteors, so train your eyes toward the darker areas and watch closely. This week is also one of the best times to see the ringed planet of Saturn in dramatic fashion. On Sunday, August 14, the giant world will line up with the Earth and the Sun. The alignment is called an “opposition.” Saturn will be closer to Earth than it has been in more than a year. If you want a peek at the planet, look for a golden yellow light shining steadily in the east after sunset. With binoculars, you may even see the spectacular Saturn rings. Greg Abbott after second bus of migrants arrives: ‘This is horrific’ New York City Mayor Eric Adams blasted Texas Gov. Daniel Fritter, Owner of Calibre Magazine - Canada's largest gun magazine, discusses the impact Canada's ban on the import of handguns will have on public safety.
On today's show, we speak with Edmonton's first Metis and Cree City Councillor Aaron Paquette to get his perspective on the Pope's visit to Alberta. Plus, UCP leadership candidate Rajan Sawhney joins us to talk about the race and her campaign. Also, we speak with federal public safety Minister Marco Mendicino. And we break down Hockey Canada's hearings before parliament with Dr. Laura Misener, Director and Professor at the School of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Western University.
David Menzies is joined by Tamara Ugolini for this edition of the livestream, where the pair discuss Sneaky Patrick Brown being investigated by the Conservative party, while calls to fire Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino are growing louder and documents reveal the (surprising? unsurprising?) amount of money Justin Trudeau has been spending on alcohol.

Travel mandates are over, McDavid gets wrecked off the ice. Alberta ranchers are singled out, Australia gets its climate changed, Canada throws money away, the RCMP loses its mind, Mendicino caught lying, how the prime minister stole freedom, the world wants Canada's oil.
When the Trudeau government invoked the Emergencies Act to quash the peaceful Freedom Convoy, they made a number of wild claims to rationalize its use of the never-before-used act. Since then, Trudeau's narrative about why the government needed these unprecedented powers has crumbled – the convoy was not funded by foreign donors or terrorists, the protesters had nothing to do with the arson attempt in Ottawa and to this date – not a single police force has confirmed the government's claim that the police requested the government to invoke the act. This week, Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino's deputy minister says Mendicino was “misunderstood” when he repeatedly said law enforcement requested the government's invocation of the Emergencies Act. Fortunately for the Trudeau government, they can count on the legacy media to cover for them. Plus, Poilievre Derangement Syndrome reaches a new level as the Poilievre campaign announced it signed up over 300,000 members. Unsurprisingly, the legacy media is not covering this news in the same celebratory way they covered Trudeau's leadership run in 2013. Further, the Treasury Board of Canada wants you to use proper pronouns when composing emails . Forget about out-of-control government spending or the inflation crisis – this is the top priority for the government! Plus, some exciting developments from True North as we launched two new podcasts this week AND some personal news from Candice Malcolm! It's Fake News Friday on The Candice Malcolm Show! Candice and True North producer Harrison Faulkner discuss the worst examples of fake news in the legacy media this week. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino has repeatedly said police requested the government's invocation of the Emergencies Act, even though every police agency involved in the convoy has denied it. Now, his deputy minister, a supposedly nonpartisan bureaucrat, is trying to justify the misinformation by saying we all misunderstood Mendicino – the same cabinet minister who claimed there was a violent conspiracy connected to the convoy but couldn't give any evidence. True North's Andrew Lawton asks whether Mendicino is incompetent or actively deceitful? Also, a woman denied the right to run as a PC candidate in Ontario has won election as an independent. The newly elected MPP Bobbi Ann Brady joins the Andrew Lawton Show to discuss the era of the independents. Russia has invaded Ukraine and our government is treating that much differently then they treated Canadians, also we're throwing out perfectly good alcohol in Ontario. Tanya, a naturalized Canadian citizen who lives in Ottawa, has been trying to get her entire family to Canada, or the US, for years.More recently, she has prioritized getting her father — whom she said worked as a subcontractor repairing equipment for the Canadian and American militaries — onto an evacuation flight to escape Taliban retaliation.Tanya, who asked The World not to use her last name to avoid endangering her family members, said that when her father didn't answer her call on Friday, she panicked.“I called my brother and said, ‘Is everything OK? Are you guys OK?' And he said, ‘Yes, we were attacked yesterday.' And that just shattered me, basically.”Armed men had come to the house, he told her — and her family members escaped by climbing over a wall and have now gone into hiding.Tanya sent her family's documents to the Canadian government three weeks ago, after the government announced that Afghans looking to be evacuated should submit their information via email, but said she is still waiting to hear back. Unfortunately, that story is all too familiar for Afghans in Canada looking to get their loved ones out of Afghanistan. The Canadian government is now defending itself against criticism that it has been slow to evacuate Canadian citizens and Afghans who worked for the Canadian government. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said last week that if the Taliban continues to restrict access, this will limit the number of Afghans Canada can evacuate.Related: This Afghan interpreter helped the US Army Special Forces. He's desperate to get out of Afghanistan.“We will get some, certainly, but to get many people out, as many as we'd want, is going to be almost impossible in the coming weeks."Justin Trudeau, prime minister, Canada“We will get some, certainly, but to get many people out, as many as we'd want, is going to be almost impossible in the coming weeks,” Trudeau said, delivering updates on the Afghan evacuation from the campaign trail after calling a snap parliamentary election that began the same day Taliban troops entered Kabul. Canada deployed troops in Afghanistan as part of joint NATO forces until 2014. They were supported by thousands of Afghan interpreters and other staff. Late last week, Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino said Canada would accelerate evacuations. He said the collection of biometric data was being moved to a third country and that Canada would waive requirements like COVID-19 tests and passports to board evacuation flights. The day the Taliban entered Kabul, form emails were still encouraging Afghans to apply for passports.Related: 'If journalists leave a scene, it becomes a black hole,' VOA journalist says Mendicino tweeted Monday that Canada had flown more than 1,500 Afghans to safety. Some passengers who ended up on Canadian flights have reportedly been bound for other allied countries. And many Canada evacuees have been unable to reach the airport at all to board flights.“The situation on the ground is volatile. It's precarious. We're staying in constant contact with all the people we're trying to help,” Mendocino said on a Canadian TV program Sunday. Officials have said they want to evacuate about 6,000 Afghans with ties to Canada.A spokesperson for Mendicino's division, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Rémi Larivière, said in an email that he could not disclose operational details but wrote: “We recognize the urgency of the situation, and we will continue to work as quickly as possible.”Larivière noted that Canada is also working to expedite the processing of family sponsorship applications for Afghans. Canada's family reunification program does not allow Canadians like Tanya to sponsor her adult siblings. Loose networks of individuals have also mobilized to help bring Afghans who worked with the Canadian military to safety. Andrew Rusk's sister-in-law was the first Canadian military woman to be killed in combat in Afghanistan. In July, he co-founded a group called Not Left Behind, which is working with dozens of Canadian veterans. “I don't doubt for a minute that everybody is trying incredibly hard at this moment to do the right thing. ... But we needed to do the right thing three months ago, four months ago."Andrew Rusk, Not Left Behind, Canada“I don't doubt for a minute that everybody is trying incredibly hard at this moment to do the right thing,” Rusk said, responding to recent statements by Canadian politicians. “But we needed to do the right thing three months ago, four months ago. “Because of our delays, because of the paperwork, because of the bureaucracy, instead of getting people on planes, we've had Afghans that supported us hiding for their lives as they've been hunted by the Taliban,” Rusk said. Related: US biometric devices are in the hands of the TalibanThose approved for flights receive messages from the Canadian government to make their way to the airport in Kabul, which, for many, means crossing through Taliban checkpoints and crowds outside the gates. For some, help will almost certainly come too late, Rusk said. “Last weekend, I received news from one of the veterans working on this that three cooks that worked with him in Kandahar were killed. A couple of weeks before, we heard that the wife of an interpreter was killed.”Canada has committed to welcoming 20,000 Afghans, including those being evacuated now. The rest will likely be people who have gotten out of Afghanistan to a third country on their own. Related: An Afghan American describes his fear-filled flight from KabulMaureen Silcoff, a past president of the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers, said immigration officials should use flexible options at their disposal, including temporary residence permits, to get as many people on evacuation flights as possible. She said Canada could also waive some paperwork requirements to expedite the arrival of Afghans from other countries, as the government did during a past effort to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees.“Hopefully, the situation with Afghan refugee resettlement will take those practices into account and we can see efficient measures put in place to really help people come to Canada and start new lives here,” Silcoff said. Canada's private sponsorship program lets groups of Canadians support individual refugees' resettlement and exceptionally high participation helped Canada eventually admit 39,000 Syrians in just under a year. Silcoff said she's encouraged to see lots of public interest in sponsoring Afghan refugees and that she hopes the number of Afghans admitted to Canada will also be expanded.

When we think of some dishes we love to cook that often where made by our families, you know those recipes that have been handed down and give us all the feels when we cook and eat them with our families and friends.... We don't often get a chance to make them as they can be a labour of love and lest say effing time consuming which we don't have much to spare. Especially if these dishes require time in the oven or stove simmering. Labour of love meals can be done with ease in a slow cooker..... Or a pressure cooker... Or heck even a multi cooker without having you feel like a flustered hot mess! what if you mastered one of (or all if that's your jam) these appliances and it made your life easier? This week I chat on the podcast titled "Slow cookers save lives" with the ever so lovely Danie from @cookingwithdanie all things slower cooker vs traditional stove and oven cooking. We thought we would bring our forces, brain, knowledge and heritage to the show and discuss meals that can be done in the slow cooker, and we drop some amazing tips and tricks that we hope you will be able to implement into your cooking and kitchen to really nail the art of the slow cooking. Of course like all my guests I asked Danie to share an amazing CBF go to meal she makes and she was so kind to suggest her favourite quick and easy Rana four cheese ravioli that you can get at most supermarkets, Served with a cherry tomato sauce, where you cook down the tomatoes with lots of garlic and topped with parmesan - it is the best! I have shared this on my IG feed and Danie has this plus many more of her recipes saved on her highlights. So please go ahead and make it for you and your families and we would love to see your remakes. Canada has announced that it will increase immigration into the country and simplify the process in order to help the economy recover and grow Canada aims to accept over 400,000 permanent residents each year under the 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan. The focus of the new plan will be geared towards economic growth, with the Economic Class accounting for 60% of new admissions. The new Canadian migrant visas are aimed at increasing numbers of people through the following programmes: Self-Employed Persons Program Federal Skilled Trades Program Federal Skilled Worker Program Canadian Experience Class Start-up Visa In recent years, Indians have made up the largest nationality to obtain permanent residency in Canada. Migrants have been helped by a more straightforward path to citizenship, as well as schemes aimed at attracting entrepreneurs and highly skilled workers. According to immigration analysts, the main reason behind increased migrants from the US to Canada is the confusion surrounding the H-1B scheme, as well as the extremely long waiting times for a US green card for Indians. Immigration is critical for Canada, not only for surviving the pandemic, but also to short-term and long-term economic recovery and growth Marco E. L. Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship said, “As we look to the future, newcomers create jobs not only by providing our businesses with the skills they need to thrive, but also by starting their own businesses.” He added, “Our plan will help to address some of our most pressing labour shortages while also increasing our population to keep Canada competitive on the global stage.”. To fill critical labour market gaps and remain competitive on the global stage, the 2021-2023 levels plan aims to welcome immigrants at a rate of about 1% of the Canadian population, including 401,000 permanent residents in 2021, 411,000 in 2022, and 421,000 in 2023. While Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) continued to accept and process applications throughout the pandemic, global travel restrictions and capacity constraints resulted in a shortfall in admissions in recent months. In my recent Money Tips Podcast, I interviewed Toronto native, Jas Takhar, co-founded the REC and real estate firm Royal LePage. Jas, who runs one of the leading real estate companies in Canada and is the author of the book Real Estate Intelligence, pointed out that around three times more homes will need to be built to accommodate new arrivals as well as fast-growing local demand in a hot property market. Canada has been a popular destination for migrants from all over the world including Hong Kong, India, The Philippines, Africa and European countries. This is due to a number of factors, such as Canada’s strong economy, migrant friendly policies and healthcare, but especially because their route to permeant residency and Canadiancitizenship is so much faster easier than in other countries. The UK is also opening up new immigration routes post-Brexit having abandoned former Prime Minister David Cameron’s 2010 target of cutting net migration to the “tens of thousands”. However, the UK government has pledged to clamp down on illegal immigration with plans to reduce the number of appeals against deportation. UK lockdown slowly coming to an end giving hope to a battered economy. The Canadian Government says it targets accepting 1.2 million immigrants from 2021 to 2023 even with interference generated by the global pandemic.Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino said what he called an "ambitious" three-year immigration plan today that set targets for bringing skilled workers, family members and refugees into Canada.Canada is planning to bring 401,000 new permanent residents in 2021, 411,000 in 2022 and 421,000 in 2023.“The key to both short-term economic recovery and long-term prosperity is immigration,” Mendicino said, according to AFP.“As with every other aspect of our lives, the pandemic has affected migration to Canada,” the minister commented.Last year's plan promised to bring in more than one million immigrants over a three-year period, but the COVID-19 crisis and the resulting travel restrictions have slowed down the process. At a news conference in Ottawa today, Mendicino said immigrants drive the population and economic growth that pays for vital programs such as health care."Put simply, we need more workers, and immigration is the way to get there," he said.
Canada's Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino joins First Up to discuss the process that led to the determination of not allowing the Blue Jays play home games in Toronto, the factors that went into it, whether Travis Shaw's tweet played any role in the decision and the distinction between what the Blue Jays were trying to achieve and the NHL's hub city model.

Michael becomes a successful prosecutor with a rising political career, still close to his big brother despite the differences between them. Then comes an unthinkable, impulsive act that will force Michael to choose between risking his comfortable life and keeping a sacred oath—made before he knew how powerful a promise can be.The Boys from Eighth and Carpenter is a stunning evocation of working-class Italian-American life—a story of brotherhood, loyalty, and the contradictory, unpredictable nature of family love.“The Boys from Eighth and Carpenter is a heartfelt story of two loving brothers as well as a compelling crime drama all set in the changing city of Philadelphia. Tom Mendicino is a supremely gifted writer with an eye for the most telling of details, and I loved this novel!”--Lisa Scottoline, New York Times bestselling author "At the heart of this capacious and suspenseful novel is the bond between two very different brothers, but its larger context is the Italian-American family: its values, loyalties and responsibilities. Tom Mendicino writes with honesty and compassion, and the reader can't help but root for his endearing characters."--Christopher Castellani, author of All This Talk of LoveSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/House-of-Mystery-True-Crime-History. Happy Thanksgiving! And welcome to this special Thanksgiving Episode of the Cookbook Love Podcast. Thanksgiving here in the US is a holiday all about food, sharing, and cooking, so it’s no accident that I planned today's’ interview with Sondra Bernstein. Sondra is the chef and owner of the Girl and the Fig in Sonoma, California. In October 2017 one of the deadliest fires in California history swept across Napa, Sonoma, and Mendicino counties in California. In response to the fire, and in addition to cooking thousands of meals for first responders, and those displaced by evacuations, Sondra created and held the Delicious New Chapters cookbook raiser for fire survivors. Listen in this interview as Sondra describes the days after the fires, and how she not only thought of the idea, but planned a day-long event where anyone affected by the fires could come and search for their favorite, or a new cookbook, from the thousands of cookbooks donated for the event. I would like to add that at the time of this part of the recording in early November 2018 California is again experiencing another very serious and deadly fire - the Camp Fire in Butte County. Our thoughts and prayers go out on this Thanksgiving Day to all those affected by the fires in California and to the first responders helping people piece their lives back together.
My friend Mike joins me for a relaxed Sunday conversation to talk about his favorite hobby: drumming. We talk about Mike's first band (listen to than Red Lights and Plastic HERE), what makes a good drummer, and hear some of Mike's favorite drummers. Also, I treat this as my opportunity to ask all my common-sense questions about drumming, because let's be honest - I have no idea what I'm talking about. "The difference between the good drummer and the bad drummer is not their skills - it's their ability to do what the song requires of them." Find out more on the My Obsession website. Welcome and thank you for listening. I am an 50K Ultra finisher!. If you have not visited Mendocino, California and would like a vegan destination vacation this is the place. The Standford Inn is a great in that it is entirely vegan and pet friendly. Dog companions are even welcome to join you for dinner. The grounds are beautiful with raised beds terraced on the property and full of beautiful and colorful plants. The current growing season features fava bean plants with purple, pink and white flowers. There was red kale and cabbage as well as artichokes. Multiple varieties of greens and herbs were also plentiful. The apple trees were in blossom making the scenery at the Inn spectacular. The race starts just across the river from the Inn and heads up a logging trail for about 8 miles before heading up a single track trail that winds through the red wood trees. I was aware there would be climbs but I did not comprehend the steepness and duration of each climb. Nor was I prepared well enough. Living in Florida does not give one too many options for hill training other than bridges and treadmills. Neither would be steep enough in the short term. More weight training to increase my back and leg muscle strength as well as prolonged walking/running on the maximal treadmill incline will be part of the next Ultra training plan. Nonetheless it was an epic experience and I enjoyed every minute. Not the seconds that I plunged to the ground, however. I hope you enjoy my story and more.
