#TrueCrime is this weeks theme. Truman Capote's book "In Cold Blood", caused quite a stir back in the 60's and the movie (1967) is a really good adaptation. Robert Blake is great as Perry, as he somehow makes us feel sympathy for killer who actually pulled the trigger. Nick Cassavete's "Alpha Dog" (2006) is the horrendous true story about bad parenting, stupid people and the needless death of a fifteen year old young man. Matt didn't like it very much, but Adam thought it is worth a view.Next, Actually, it's a western, with Kurasawa's "Yojimbo", (1961) and our first Indian film, "Sholay" (1975).Thanks for listening!Did we get something wrong? Justin Timberlake. Michael Phelps. Ty Pennington. Adam Levine. Richard Branson. Simone Biles. Channing Tatum. Jim Carrey. Do you know what all of these well known celebrities and Olympic athletes have in common? They all have ADHD. But have you ever sat down and talked to someone who has ADHD about what life is like for them? Have you ever had the chance to understand what being in their head is like day to day? And maybe more importantly, if you do know someone who has ADHD or you suspect might have it, do you know what to do to support them? Today I'm interviewing my friend Cameron Treu, the owner and pit master of Utah's best barbecue Bam Bam's, co-host of the Nitty Gritty Podcast, father, husband, and sports fanatic. I am pleased to have on the show this today, the gracious Rebecca Eskreis. Rebecca has had a thrilling path to her dreams of filmmaking. Now a director, writer, producer, teacher, and film consultant whose projects have been recognized by huge platforms like SXSW, TIFF, SIFF, deadCenter, Savannah, Munich, Stockholm, and film Thessaloniki festivals, she's surpassed her childhood dream.Last year, Rebecca wrote, produced, and directed her latest film, What Breaks The Ice---a coming of age thriller about two 15-year-old girls, Sammy and Emily, who hark from different worlds but strike up a quick and deep friendship during summer break in 1998, set against the backdrop of a world consumed by the Monica Lewinsky scandal. But what should be the best summer of their lives takes an unexpected turn when they become accidental accomplices in a fatal crime. What Breaks The Ice was her directorial debut project. For which she was awarded the Sandra Adair/Empowering a Billion Women Grant for promising female filmmakers from the Austin Film Society, and was selected for the Austin Film Society's Artist Intensive, hosted annually by Richard Linklater. The project was also a finalist for the 2016 Mayor's Office of New York/Women in Film/Producers Guild Financing Lab. The film will be released by Cinedigm in the fall of 2021.As a kid, she would steal her dad's video camera self-delegating as the family-vacation videographer. Her parents harness her interest in filmmaking and had her attend film summer camp to develop her love for storytelling and the skills needed too. Quite fortunately, she landed her first job out of college as a news writer/producer with Forbes. Her roles basically involved writing, producing, shooting, editing, and voicing more than 200 news segments and branded content pieces for Forbes's online streaming network. While also playing a key role in the design and implementation of the video channels on the Forbes.com site. She then went on to work in production in the Hollywood game for about seven years out in LA after going to graduate school at USC. some of her experiences included working with Clinica Estetico, 72 Productions, Red Hour Films, and Di Novi Pictures where she prepared herself for her self-venture by learning film development, and the rare opportunity of being mentored by the late Jonathan Demme. Between 2005, to 2007, Rebecca thought part-time as a teaching assistant at USC for Cinematic Arts.Eskreis's assistant produced the Justin Timberlake + the Tennessee Kids 2016 documentary which documented the star's final performance and the Tennessee Kids' 20/20 Experience World Tour, filmed in 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Some of her other short films include Noodling, The Wicked Waltz, The Argument, etc. Please enjoy my conversation with Rebecca Eskreis.

Cheyne and Luis took a break but are back now (again). While on break, they've done some traveling. Luis went to Scottsdale, Arizona with 17 other males for a long weekend. Cheyne went to Texas to further his knowledge with Power Athlete and network with other Coaches. While away from podcasting, Cheyne and Luis have been teaching more classes at Presher Fitness and have started to develop a sort of a following for their classes. This following has also left many reviews on their respective classes. The concept of positive anonymous reviews is a new development for both Cheyne and Luis. Also discussed are ways to reintegrate the gym back into your schedule. Many people now have the option to go back into the office and commuting is time consuming. Apparently these tips are listed in a tone of Andy Sandberg's and Justin Timberlake's "Dick In a Box" song. Great times.
Writer, Director, and producer Rebecca Eskreis is a familiar face on the international film festival circuit, screening at SXSW, SIFF, Munich, and Stockholm, among others. Rebecca's directorial debut, What Breaks the Ice (starring Madelyn Cline, Sofia Hublitz, and Lukas Gage) was selected for the Austin Film Society's Artist Intensive, hosted by Richard Linklater, and releases in select theaters and on VOD October 1st. What you will learn: Rebecca talks about early inspirations for her film What Breaks the Ice and the theme of moral ambiguity that weaves through the film. [0:00-7:25] The significance of using the Monica Lewinsky scandal from the late 90s as a story-telling device in What Breaks the Ice, and how the lack of technology in that era allowed the story to unfold in a way that would perhaps not be as effective if the film were set in the present day. [7:25-13:53] Why What Breaks the Ice was filmed with a handheld camera for specific scenes and the world that effect created. How Rebecca worked her way up in Hollywood. [13:53-20:24] How a meeting with Diablo Cody inspired Rebecca to make What Breaks the Ice, and the work it took to finance and cast the film. Rebecca reveals why her short film Noodling was one of the best investments she made in herself professionally, and talks about the time it took to complete that project. [20:24-30:27] What it was like to work on Jonathan Demme's concert film Justin TImberlake + the Tennessee Kids, why Demme thought of this film (at least in part) as a “comedy", and what she learned throughout that production. [30:27-37:21] Rebecca's plans for future projects, including an exciting show in the works about the Von Trapp family. Advice Rebecca has for folks hoping to make it in the film and television business.

Having started playing music at the early age of 4, self-taught vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jon Car has developed into a potent alternative rock act, led by an unforgettable vocal. Having played over 900 shows with his band Hyde After Nine, Car made the decision to carve his own path and pursue a solo career, to optimize the impact of his unique songwriting style and captivating delivery. Led by new single "The Danger", Car's upcoming material nods to a dexterous array of influences from across rock and beyond; the visceral accessibility of Hinder's Austin Winkler meeting the lyrical elements of Ivan L. Moody (Five Finger Death Punch); the power of a Chris Daughtry juxtaposing luscious pop tones a la Justin Timberlake. With Car's resonating vocals and poignant lyricism catching the attention of Affiant Records, "The Danger" sets a mouth-watering taste of what is to come on upcoming EP, 'DREAM-119', out September 10th. Milli Vanilli, Marilyn Monroe and Henry VI are amongst the people pored over in this preview of Olly's new comedy-history podcast series 'The Retrospectors' put together especially for Answer Me This! listeners. You can find the show at podfollow.com/Retrospectors In each daily ten-minute episode, Olly and his co-hosts Rebecca and Arion look back at a curious moment from that day in history. Previous topics have included the birth of Ladybird books, Walter Raleigh bringing tobacco to Britain, and the launch of the board-game Twister. In this special compilation, Olly introduces three of his favourite episodes of the show so far: • In 'Marilyn's Birthday Surprise', the team look back to 19th May 1962, when Marilyn Monroe delivered her breathy, flirtatious rendition of ‘Happy Birthday' to JFK, and columnist Dorothy Kilgallen remarked, 'it seemed like Marilyn was making love to the President in front of 40 million Americans.' • Then, in 'The Death of Kissing', they look back to 16th July, 1439, when Henry VI issued a decree imploring his citizens to stop kissing his ring, to hold back the spread of the bubonic plague - a deadly disease that had been rampant for a century. • Finally, in 'The Outing of Milli Vanilli', it's time to journey back to 21st July, 1989 - the day German pop duo Milli Vanilli first exposed a shameful secret: their vocals were sung by someone else. Warning: contains Olly's Justin Timberlake impression. If you like what you hear, please please follow 'The Retrospectors' on your podcast app of choice, for a ten-minute dose of something similar every weekday! podfollow.com/Retrospectors --- The Retrospectors are Olly Mann, Rebecca Messina & Arion McNicoll, with Matt Hill. David Nieker comedy is uncommon and unflinching, landing punchlines that span an emotional distance between his heroes, Rodney Dangerfield and Mr. Mike. I get no respect but I try to fight back with my wit,” he says. "I'm proud to finally be able to defend myself with my words.” Since 2010, he's been busy doing that and what he's wanted to do his whole life—making audiences laugh at stand up comedy at clubs and festivals throughout the United States. As an undergrad at the University of Illinois, Chicago, he first walked on screen 1986 as Goon #2 in Goldie Hawn's football classic, Wildcats. He also trained at the early ImprovOlympic with legends Charna Halpern and Del Close. After graduation, he embarked on an introverted creative path as an advertising copywriter at ad agencies and Fortune 500 companies in Chicago, Seattle, Miami and Los Angeles. He became a member of SAG-AFTRA in 2014, and has since been seen in sketches on Jimmy Kimmel Live and CONAN, as an imposter on To Tell The Truth, and as a Woodsman in David Lynch's Twin Peaks: The Return, 2017. He's also been featured in a Justin Timberlake music video, and in a commercial for Mercedes-Benz. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/mostlyjuststories/support

Have you ever felt like someone discriminated against you because of your age? Maybe you didn't get that promotion because you were too young, or perhaps you felt like they didn't hire you because you were too old. In either scenario, I doubt you ran down the road and told your friends because you had just been the victim of a “raging ageist”. In this episode of This is Getting Old podcast, we tackle the biggest problem with America's mindset about aging and the prejudices that today's current older adults face and generations to follow will too, unless we make some major cultural changes. Key points covered in this episode: ✔️ In the next ten years, we all know we're going to have more older adults on the planet than children for the first time in human history. And we largely attribute that to the Boomers. ✔️ Did you also know that two years ago, millennials took over as the largest generation? This year (2021), Millennials are beginning to turn 40, makingthem old enough to sue for age discrimination in the workplace. So this includes people like Justin Timberlake, Eli Manning, Alicia Keys - anyone born before 1997. ✔️ Ageism is the only form of discrimination largely absent from our national dialogue around diversity and inclusion. While the other "-isms" split us up, it is a fact that aging is something that we're all doing. ✔️ Ageism is also the only concept that we socially accept - and even project - onto ourselves. We have about 25 years to find the policies and solutions to make the world more age-friendly and eradicate ageism. If you have questions, comments, or need help, please feel free to drop one-minute audio or video clip and email it to me at email@example.com, and I will get back to you by recording an answer to your question. From forced piano lessons at 8 to adding multiple instruments through the years, including his voice, to studying with Dave Stroud (who's worked with Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, and Kelly Clarkson, for a few), Korel's developed his own style of teaching voice, his great passion. He explained how it's possible to teach pitch and harmonies, and says, yes, pretty much everyone can be taught to sing. He does so on Zoom. You can connect with him and find all things Korel here: koreltunador.com A devoted husband and father, more time coaching on screens (guitar as well) and less time touring suits him. The pandemic, in a way, supported his decision, made before COVID became a 4 letter word. As much as Korel loves playing, husbanding, parenting and teaching are his primary focuses. For now. He sure does love playing with Rob Thomas and the band he's created. I sure do love sitting down with this funny, smart, sweet, versatile artist. Korel treated us to two beauteous tunes, Total Surprise, which was a surprise choice, he said he hasn't played it in years, and his Breaker. Simply gorgeous. Korel ain't bad, neither. Grateful for his friendship, Korel's a loyal and generous friend. He's played multiple times at Women Who Write, even venturing to Big Sur, to serenade us. I'll be forever grateful to Zoe Moon, for connecting us. I adore the man. It was so fun to spend a coupla of hours in his great company, I forgot for the time I was alone in my home. In this episode of Lochhead on Marketing, let's talk about how to be more creative and two beats ahead of the rest. I've been inspired of late by a new book called Two Beats Ahead by Panos Panay and Michael Hendrix. What I love about this book is these guys are musicians who teach entrepreneurship and how to have an entrepreneurial mind in the musical world, so to speak. This book is about how to take some of the big creating learnings from some of the greatest music artists in the world and apply them in a business context. If you want to hear more from them, check out this episode of Follow Your Different (FYD episode 218) or get Two Beats Ahead here. Though for this one, I wanted to focus on the ideas that have been rattling around in my head and in my conversations with marketers and entrepreneurs. So if you want to hear more about it, stay tuned to this episode. Two Beats Ahead If you haven't listened to our conversation at Follow Your Different, you are really missing out. Panos Panay and Michael Hendrix are amazing people, and our conversation about the book and their thoughts on business is legendary. One of the things we talked about in the books is that they ask a question. When they do workshops, they ask the CEOs, “who would you rather hire, an athlete or a musician?” I thought this was an interesting question, because musicians, particularly ones that write their own music, usually have a high degree of creativity. Three Takeaways There are three big ideas I wanted you to take away from how I've been taking the learnings from Michael and Panos. Dare To Suck The first comes from a quote from Justin Timberlake in the book: “ I only have one rule in the studio, and that's this: dare to suck.” I think when many of us are in business jam sessions, whether we are thinking about products or marketing campaigns or new business models and whatnot, we're in some kind of jam session with a group of people. Our objective is to do some thinking out loud and be creative. Though what tends to happen in these sessions is not about being creative, innovative, and coming up with legendary ideas. It can often be sort of about posturing, looking good, currying favor with the boss, or something along those lines. I think it's best to not worry about those things and dare to suck. Let ourselves be free and be open. Don't worry about what we look and take Justin's advice: Dare to suck. Collaboration As you read through the book, it is painfully obvious that legendary musicians collaborate in a way that is unusual, to say the least. Here's a quote from the book: “The company that operates more like a band of collaborators than a strict corporate hierarchy has the ability to shape an environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging.” – Two Beats Ahead As someone who collaborates with two highly creative people in Category Pirates, having a highly intense and creative environment multiple times a week as we work on the newsletter has been an amazing experience. When you have a group of people who are committed to doing legendary work, who are willing to suck, and willing to jam with each other like a band would, it can be quite rewarding for everyone involved. The opportunity to be playful and truly collaborative and not give a shit about sucking or how we look is a very freeing thing in business. Keep Creating, Not Editing One of the things mentioned in the book is that musicians just keep creating. When they get into a creative zone, they just keep going and not worry about editing it. The time for editing comes later. I think that's remarkable as when you think about it, when you have a creative jam session in business, a lot of the time is spent on editing rather than creating. Whenever someone comes up with a new idea, it's either immediately criticized or shut down. It's rare that an idea is allowed to be built up by the person who mentioned it or someone else in the session.

Carolina Bermudez steps Behind The Rope. First things first, Carolina addresses all of those many viral rumors that she was contacted by the The Real Housewives of New York City to join the RHONY franchise next Season, Season 14, as an Apple Holder. Of course, in true Rope fashion, you don't think we let Ms. Bermudez off that easily. We discuss who she knows on the current cast, who she knows from casts past, what type of Real Housewife she would be, who she thinks she would befriend, who she has heard from in the RHONY and BravoVerse since this viral press, any reservations she would have in joining and last, but certainly not least, whether the fact that she would be the first Latina NYC Housewife would factor into her decision to join the once top rated franchise. Moving on, did we mention Carolina has had one epic career in the entertainment sector including stints as a Red Carpet Reporter, Senior Editor at In Touch Weekly, and even a recurring role on "One Life To Live”. The majority of Carolina's career was spent at Z100 with Elvis Duran and currently at iHeart's KTU where she hosts the “Carolina with Greg T” Morning Show. Carolina has interviewed EVERYONE. We discuss some of her most Iconic Chats - Madonna (one of her most difficult interviews from Dylan's Candy Bar), Katy Perry (Carolina is the one responsible for “outing” Katy's 25M Idol Salary), Britney (one of the last to interview her before her Conservatorship took place), JLO (there are makeup tips and Carolina shares a Bennifer update), Kelly Clarkson (who sung Carolina's pregnancy announcement to the world), Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Adam Levine, Harry Styles, Ariana Grande, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Sting and many many more. Caroline discusses the nice, the not so nice, and everything in between from behind the mic of each of these epic chats. Finally, we chat about her home life in Long Island - happily married to the love of her life with whom she just celebrated a 10 year wedding anniversary and two young boys who are too camera shy to take a pic with Sting and well behaved on an intercontinental flight from Costa Rica. Happily married with two young children. Now there is something we haven't seen on The Real Housewives of New York City in quite a while.
