Host Jeremy Quinby has a conversation with Emma Orfield Johnston of Orfield Labs in Minneapolis Minnesota, home of the Quietest Place on Earth as recognized by the Guinness World Book of Records. After Reading an article written by Questlove, aka Amir Thompson, leader of Jimmy Fallon's late night show band, drummer from the Roots and now an Academy Award Winner for the documentary Summer of Soul, Jeremy became intrigued to have an experience in the space himself. With Emma's background in cognitive and perceptual psychology, she began realizing the potential uses of this room as a healing space. She shares her experiences and thoughts about current projects and the future use of the space. https://www.orfieldlabs.com https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/23/magazine/quiet-chamber-minneapolis.html

If you feel stupid while learning something new, you're doing it right. But if you keep doing the same thing over and over hoping it'll suddenly make sense - that's on you. The trick isn't to push harder; it's to find a new teacher, a new explanation, a new way in.That's exactly how Matthew Broussard approaches comedy - and everything else. A stand-up comedian, math nerd, and former financial analyst, Matthew is obsessed with learning and cracking the formula behind how things work. He treats every joke like an equation, testing, refining, and solving for laughter. He's the creator of Monday Punday, a puzzle webcomic and app, and has been featured on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Conan and Comedy Central's Roast Battle. He's also made appearances on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Mindy Project. His storytelling, including his viral tales about his mother-in-law, proves that logic and vulnerability can live in the same sentence. In this episode, we explore the overlap between comedy and leadership—the art of experimenting, iterating, and connecting through honesty. We talk about the hidden work beneath success, the difference between purpose and perfection, and why laughter might just be the purest form of optimism. This is A Bit of Optimism.---------------------------This episode is brought to you by the Porsche USA Macan---------------------------Check out Matthew's Youtube page for his full comedy special “Hyperbolic”: https://www.youtube.com/@mondaypunday---------------------------

The focus is on the back-and-forth between Jimmy Kimmel and various critics including Erica Kirk, widow of Charlie Kirk, and media personalities like Jesse Waters and Bill Maher. The controversy stems from a Trump joke by Kimmel, with Mac emphasizing it's a Trump joke rather than a comment on Charlie Kirk's murder. Mac also covers Jon Stewart's return to The Daily Show, Seth Meyers' ongoing feud with Donald Trump, and a contentious segment with Jimmy Fallon. Stephen Colbert shares anecdotes about the power of comedy, and Whitney Cummings announces her engagement to skateboarder Chris Cole, adding more celebrity buzz to the mix. Before SantaCon became the most hated event in NYC history, it began as a San Francisco subversive experiment of fun by the same anarchic collective that spawned Burning Man and inspired Fight Club's Project Mayhem. We talk to filmmaker Seth Porges, who has a new documentary about SanCon on how a subversive performance-art happening turned into a worldwide holiday of drunken chaos that's now belittled by the likes of John Oliver, Colin Jost, Jimmy Fallon and all of NYC. In spring 2025 I was invited to join On Brand with Jimmy Fallon as 1 of 10 creatives selected to pitch national campaigns to major brands on national TV. Since the episodes aired, my DMs have been full of the same questions: how did I get on the show, what was it really like, and what do I think of Jimmy Fallon? This week on Making It In The Toy Industry, I'm taking you behind the scenes of my wild ride as a contestant on On Brand with Jimmy Fallon. Week after week I dreamed up campaigns, plane wrap designs, comedic commercials, and drink recipes, then pitched them to CEOs and CMOs of major brands. I was mentored by Bozoma Saint John and Jimmy Fallon, an experience that reshaped how I think about branding, marketing, and product launches.Every week the stakes got higher. I was on national TV at 24+ weeks pregnant, keeping my energy high and my creativity flowing while still speaking the language of big corporate brands. Sometimes the fates align — you read a fabulous book and get the chance to chat with the even more fabulous author behind it. Case in point: A Killer Wedding and Joan O'Leary.A perfect fall murder mystery set in an Irish castle — think glitz, glam, and a dead body. The fact that this is Joan's debut completely blew me away. She's right up there with Lucy, Ruth, and Lisa — a modern, chic Nancy Drew you'd want to grab a cocktail with and chat about books, beauty, and all things mystery. We celebrated her debut, talked about her writing journey, life working for Jimmy Fallon, and our shared binge-worthy shows. This was truly one of my favorite conversations with a debut author — the vibes were vibing, and Joan was an absolute delight.Did someone say besties?
Jimmy addresses the latest news, like Trump throwing a Great Gatsby themed party at Mar-a-Lago, before speaking with PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive, Jimmy Carr and the Winner of On Brand.
Tuesday is here and the weather is going to be beautiful! 62° and mostly sunny today. Took down most of the Halloween decorations yesterday. Got a few more left today and then getting the Christmas stuff on the house. On the show today, we let you know what's on TV today/tonight and what's new on New Release Tuesday and we talked to Grant Bilse of the Wisco Sports Show just after 8am. Week 9 of the NFL regular season finished up last night with the Cowboys losing to the Cardinals, so we took a look at our Pigskin Picks…and it's not getting any better for Jean. We talked about tonight's Mega Millions drawing, the AC/DC show at Camp Randall Stadium that got announced yesterday, and an update on 3i/Atlas!!! In sports, the Bucks got a nice win over Indy last night, the Badgers men's basketball team kicked off it's regular season with a victory, Tucker Kraft is officially OUT for the rest of the season, and Cam Little got "randomly" drug tested by the NFL after his historic 68-yard field goal on Sunday! Yesterday, People magazine announced it's "Sexiest Man Alive" on Jimmy Fallon's show, and Macaulay Culkin recently reprised his role as Kevin McCallister from "Home Alone" in an ad for Home Instead. Plus, is "Wheel of Fortune" getting too raunchy? Great story about a couple of farm workers in California who helped save a bunch of kids from a burning bus, and another story from California where three brothers found a mint Superman comic #1 in their mother's attic after she passed away. A recent poll found that the average parent has to answer 46 questions a day from their child. YIKES! Even though Thanksgiving is still weeks away, we had a couple of turkey-day related stories this morning, including a new Thanksgiving-flavored Oreo collection, and Amazon's $25 Thanksgiving meal. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a woman who lied about finding a needle in her child's Halloween candy and is now facing charges, a woman in Pennsylvania who tried to light a crack pipe while in a hospital bed and suffered severe burns, a man in Virginia who went shopping at Walmart without any clothes on, and a hockey coach who got fired after he wore a Nazi costume to a Halloween party.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

"The protection of interiority is the central motivation of Metamodernism." So says Greg Dember, a Seattle-based musician, songwriter and independent researcher in Metamodernism. As the co-founder of the What Is Metamodern? website with Linda Ceriello, PhD, Greg's writing and podcast appearances speaking on metamodernism have helped popularize the terminology outside of academic discourse through accessible writing. He is the author of Say Hello To Metamodernism!: Understanding Today's Culture of Ironesty, Felt Experience, and Empathic Reflexivity (2024 Exact Rush). He is also a co-editor of the forthcoming multi-author volume, My Impossible Soul: The Metamodern Music of Sufjan Stevens (Bloomsbury/Lexington). He holds a BA (1987) from Yale University.____________Greg and Linda's Metamodern site - https://www.whatismetamodern.comGreg's article on the 11 methods of Metamodernism - https://medium.com/what-is-metamodern/after-postmodernism-eleven-metamodern-methods-in-the-arts-767f7b646cae Greg's book on Metamodernism - https://www.amazon.com/Say-Hello-Metamodernism-Understanding-Reflexivity/dp/B0DHGFKZ8W/__________In this conversation, I sit down with Greg to explore metamodernism as the cultural backdrop that's emerged since roughly 2000, taking over from postmodernism's ironic detachment. We discuss how metamodernism oscillates between modern earnestness and postmodern irony to defend the significance of interiority and felt experience. Greg introduces his framework of 11 metamodern methods—including empathic reflexivity and the double frame—and we examine how artists like the Daniels (Everything Everywhere All At Once), Wes Anderson, Bo Burnham, and even The Beatles navigate this territory. The conversation ranges from David Letterman's evolution to Don Quixote as a proto-metamodern text, exploring how this sensibility has spread from indie niches into mainstream culture, and what it means for how we make and experience art today._____________⏳Timestamps0:00 Episode Intro2:26 Greg's current work: Sufjan Stevens book3:26 What is metamodernism?
