Dalan tries to deal with the aftermath of Te’Ki’s departure and death, as well as the knowledge that the Rondoki most likely possess the Ka’al P’ack. He finally realizes the only viable option left for him to finally attain some peace in his life: Go through the Rondoki Clan…no matter the cost.

Te’Ki comes to an important decision that will leave Dalan wide open to become what he’s meant to…but at a terrible cost.

The aftermath of Dalan’s intervention prompts an encounter with his Grandfather, at which point the young tiger relates his and Te’Ki’s suspicion about the Ka’al P’ack’s fate. Dalan struggles with his conflicting thoughts. While part of him wants justice against those who wronged him, the other part wants to carry on with his plan to take he and Te’Ki away from Bengalis at first opportunity. An incident during his duties at the docks drives him closer to one of those decisions.

A potential bomb threat shuts down all operations at the docks, and Dalan is tasked to help locate it. As he investigates with his assigned team, he learns a bit more that pushes him to begin asking the hard questions about his exile. Things have settled down once more between Dalan and Te’Ki. Dalan begins to feel more comfortable in his life both as an exile hiding in plain sight, and as Khrasa’s student. In the aftermath of the massacre in the alley, Te’Ki finally shares with Dalan the truth about her past: a journey of torture and abuse only for her to finally break free and eventually find her way to him.

Dalan and Te’Ki are trapped in an alley by a group of thugs who apparently know the cougar quite well. However, before more secrets are revealed, one of them makes the single worst mistake he could ever make: He dares to hurt the one Dalan loves. What follows…is a nightmare…

The night before he’s to leave again for another mountain retreat, Dalan decides to take his new love out for a night on the town. While they’re out, Dalan encounters both an echo of his past, and a dark harbinger of one possible future…
