A recent meeting of the Connacht Clan saw Brian O'Connor nominated and elected as their new president. The Connacht Clan are the Connacht Rugby Supporters Club and are made up of members of all five counties in the province.  It promises to be a very busy year for the Clan with Connacht involved in the Champions Cup as well as the United Rugby Championship.  Following his election, Brian spoke to John Mulligan on Sunday Sport and the first thing John did was congratulate him.

L'avocat d'extrême droite Abelardo de la Espriella prend ses fonctions de président de la Colombie vendredi 7 août 2026. Le maire de la ville, lui, a renforcé les mesures pour ramener le calme. De notre envoyée spéciale à Betulia, Betulia est une petite ville du nord-ouest de la Colombie, nichée au milieu de collines couvertes de caféiers. Sur la place principale, tout juste rénovée, de nouvelles cabanes servent de points de vente. Une sculpture proclame « J'aime Betulia », cœur inclus, prisée pour les photos souvenirs. Dans le bureau du maire, les rendez-vous avec les habitants s'enchaînent. Ce matin, c'est au tour de l'assemblée communale du quartier El Nariño de venir faire le point. Dans ces quartiers, c'est là que l'on vend et que l'on consomme le plus de drogue. Avant, sans exagérer, on comptait un mort, parfois deux, chaque semaine… [Il pleure] Pardon, je n'arrive pas à en parler sans pleurer, à chaque fois », se lamente-t-il. Pour mieux comprendre la situation, le maire nous emmène dans ce quartier qu'il décrit comme « pris en otage ». Depuis deux ans, l'édile tente de reprendre le contrôle en aidant à la rénovation des maisons et en étant plus présent auprès des habitants. À quelques mètres de la place principale, une rangée de maisons aux toits de tôle : certaines sont encore en travaux. Dans celle où nous entrons, on refait le sol. Bientôt, il y aura un carrelage tout neuf. Camilo Serna, maire de la ville de Betulia, explique : « Avant, on ne pouvait même pas entrer ici. Quand on le faisait, c'était toujours fortement escorté par l'armée, par la police. » L'élu ne cache pas son souhait de voir la nouvelle politique sécuritaire nationale se montrer plus offensive. En parallèle, la ville mise sur de nouveaux événements et sur son identité de terre de café pour relancer un tourisme freiné par son image négative en termes de sécurité. « Notre région a souvent été mise de côté par l'ancien gouvernement de Gustavo Petro parce qu'il détestait Antioquia. Born on Onondaga Nation territory, and the homelands of her father, Diane Schenandoah holds the responsibility of Faithkeeper for the Oneida Nation. She was born into the Wolf Clan and her mother, Maisie, was a Wolf Clan Mother for Oneida Nation. As a young woman, with the support of her artistic family, she pursued her love of the arts at the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute in ABQ, NM and later the prestigious Institute of American Indian Arts/Santa Fe, where she was mentored by Chiricahua Apache sculptor Allan Houser/Haozous. In addition to being an artist and a leader within her family, Clan, community, and Nation, Diane currently serves as Honwadiyenawa'sek (One Who Helps Them) at the Barnes Center at the Arch, Syracuse University, supporting students by sharing Haudenosaunee principles and philosophies on wellness and well-being. Her art is in numerous private collections and represented in the collections of the Iroquois Museum, Castellani Art Museum, Fenimore Museum/Cooperstown, and of course the New York State Museum. You already know the story. Or at least the version everybody's been handed down.Clans. Sacred tartans. A warrior culture supposedly older than memory itself.That's the myth. The myth was a product. Somebody built it deliberately, and they built it to sell.The Highland tradition Scots and the global Scottish diaspora treat as ancient was actually constructed between 1760 and 1850 by a specific group of men who understood that identity is a market and nostalgia is a currency. Two con men forged a manuscript that authenticated "ancient" clan tartans no one had ever heard of. A textile mill in Bannockburn ran the supply chain, naming patterns clan-by-clan as they came off the looms. A novelist staged a royal pageant for a politically embarrassed king and used it to launch the brand. A queen turned Balmoral into a content factory that sold the Highland lifestyle to the world.And while all of this was happening, the actual Highlanders were being cleared off their ancestral land and shipped to Nova Scotia. What's Sherlock Holmes doing in New York's most Fenian pub?That's the intrigue at the heart of Terror From America: A Sherlock HolmesAdventure, the debut novel from journalist and historian Terry Golway, and thequestion Irish Stew podcast cohosts Martin Nutty and John Lee set out to answerbefore a packed, raucous house at Ernie O'Malley's on the first of June.A Staten Island native with a Ph.D. in U.S. history from Rutgers and two decadesof political reporting at the New York Observer, Golway has written more than adozen acclaimed works of nonfiction. But fiction, he tells us, unlocks somethingfacts alone cannot: "You can learn as much about history through a novel as youcan in a history book."His novel imagines Britain dispatching the world's greatest detective to infiltratethe Irish American revolutionary underground of 1885 New York, a missionrooted in a real and largely forgotten chapter of history. "The original crime isbased on something that actually happened," Golway explains. "Several IrishAmericans were going to try to blow up London Bridge…instead they blewthemselves up."Holmes's investigation pulls him into the orbit of real historical figures, nonemore compelling than John Devoy. In a dramatic reading brought brilliantly tolife by actor Mick Mellamphy, Devoy records in his diary what Charles Parnellhad told him when they met: "The American people are now the arbiters of theIrish question,” to which Devoy replied, "I almost had tears in my eyes when Iheard those words.
