The return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones in Season 2 of *Daredevil: Born Again* serves as a pivotal focal point of our discussion today. We delve into the intricate nuances of representation, particularly examining the portrayal of Black mothers in comic books and pop culture, an often underrepresented topic that demands our attention. Additionally, we reflect on the ramifications of Mon Mothma's impassioned speech in *Andor*, Episode 9 of Season 2, which resonates deeply with contemporary sociopolitical themes. Furthermore, we entertain a critical analysis of the pacing and writing of *The Acolyte*, posing the question of whether its narrative structure detracted from its potential impact. In this episode of Geek Freaks, Frank, Thomas, and Jonathan are back from the Mother's Day break with a packed discussion! They break down the new Peacemaker Season 2 trailer, explore the casting shake-up for the upcoming Clayface movie, and share thoughts on whether Star Wars fans are becoming too hard to please. Plus, hear which character deaths hit them hardest growing up, and catch updates on the booming Fallout series, Thunderbolts comic rebrand, and GTA 6's delay. It's a wild ride through geek culture, nostalgia, and fan expectations. Timestamps and Topics: 00:00 Introduction and Disney Moms podcast shoutout 00:49 Which fictional character death hit the hardest 03:12 Instagram listener responses 05:47 Robb Stark's betrayal and emotional impact 06:23 Peacemaker Season 2 trailer breakdown 10:12 Is the DCU off to a weak start? 14:44 Thoughts on the Clayface script rewrite 17:48 Thunderbolts rebranded as New Avengers 21:56 Is Marvel trying too hard to align comics with movies? 26:10 Forecasting Avengers: Doomsday's five-team lineup 28:31 Fallout series future and New Vegas excitement 33:33 GTA 6 delayed until 2026 37:07 Are Star Wars fans too hard to please? 51:00 The toxic side of fandom and how to fix it 57:30 Why Star Wars casts need better protection 01:00:09 Final thoughts on nostalgia, missed chances, and evolution of fan behavior 01:01:30 Geek Freaks Network news 01:03:22 Weekly recommendations from the hosts Key Takeaways: Peacemaker Season 2 might bridge DCU timelines with multiverse twists. The Clayface film is shifting tone with a new writer, sparking concern. The new Thunderbolts comic is rebranded as The New Avengers, but not all fans are buying the change. Fallout is already planned through Season 5, signaling massive investment in the franchise. GTA 6 delay is seen as necessary to maintain Rockstar's near-perfect track record. Star Wars discourse is dominated by vocal negativity, often before fans have seen new content. Healthy fan engagement means watching, evaluating, and building community—not canceling creators. Ahsoka, Andor, Skeleton Crew, and Acolyte show that Star Wars is diversifying for different audiences. Studios need to better protect and prepare actors for the toxic wave of online fandom. Memorable Quotes: "If you're not watching Peacemaker, you're doing yourself a disservice. It's phenomenal TV." – Thomas "Star Wars didn't change. You just didn't know what it was about when you were a kid." – Frank "Shared trauma is what bonds us. Like Mufasa dying in The Lion King—we all lived through that." – Jonathan "It might not be for you. But it might be someone's favorite Star Wars, and that matters." – Frank "The fandom won't grow if we gatekeep. Let new fans fall in love the same way we did." – Thomas Call to Action: If you enjoyed this episode, share it with a fellow geek and leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. In the past on this podcast, host Neal Pollack and guest Scott Gold have occasionally steered listeners awry, we'll admit it. After watching the first couple episodes of genre shows like The Acolyte or Daredevil: Born Again, they've encouraged people to watch the shows, and then had to sit back and cringe for weeks as the shows not only failed to stick the landing, but flopped entirely. With pretty good confidence, we can say that's not going to be the case with Season 2 of 'Andor,' which will surely be one of the best TV shows of the year when all is said and done. While it may sometimes be a little too "grownup" for its own good, 'Andor' is still thrilling and intelligent entertainment, a Star Wars not really for kids, with great action scenes, a skilled cast, nuanced writing, and gorgeous costumes. It's about the best you could hope for out of a TV show, particularly a Star Wars one. Neal and Scott feel no shame.Stephen Garrett pops into the pod-dome to discuss the surprisingly popular 'The Accountant 2,' which Stephen didn't really like much. It takes a brotastic genre turn away from the moody character piece that was the first 'Accountant' movie several years ago. While Stephen admires it when a sequel breaks so far from the original source material, he found this one just plain goofy.Unable to comment on 'The Shrouds' from David Cronenberg because of a professional conflict of interest, Stephen mostly lets Neal have at this film, which is weird and awkward and stiff and throws away cool ideas and amazing future tech on a weird conspiracy plotline about sinister Chinese doctors helping the CCP throw a surveillance blanket over the entire world--by using dead bodies. It's not a bad conceit for the movie, but there's lots of telling, not showing. Stephen breaks character to say he thinks The Shrouds is a profound meditation on mortality and grief. That's true, but it buries its depth beneath six feet of plot exposition.Meanwhile, Neal and Stephen are celebrating, because the box-office is through the roof. It's a glorious time to go to the movies, and to be a movie fan. At last, movies are back. We never lost faith at the BFG podcast. Just please keep your devices silent and out of sight, and no talking unless you're at a special screening of A Minecraft Movie.Enjoy the show!

In this powerful episode of Challenge Accepted, Frank and Thomas return to break down the first three episodes of Andor Season 2. With its return, Andor brings layered storytelling, political tension, and the gritty realism that has set it apart from other Star Wars shows. The hosts discuss Cassian's full transformation into a rebel leader, Mon Mothma's personal sacrifices, and the Empire's terrifying strategies of control. From unexpected romances to moral dilemmas and dark parallels with real-world issues, this is a deep dive into one of the most human stories in the galaxy far, far away. Timestamps and Topics: 00:00 Introduction and three-episode format discussion 00:55 The return of Andor and its standout writing 02:00 Cassian's leadership and evolution as a rebel 03:30 Comparing Cassian to Han Solo and grounding Star Wars 06:00 New rebel factions and the fragmented resistance 08:00 Lord of the Flies parallels and chaos in rebellion ranks 09:30 Empire propaganda and the Ministry of Fables 11:00 Cassian's friends facing injustice and survival 13:00 Nazi parallels and real-world reflection in the Empire 15:00 Mon Mothma's emotional journey and her daughter's marriage 18:00 Tension between tradition and rebellion in Mon Mothma's family 21:00 Tay's breakdown and the price of loyalty 24:00 Cassian's jungle mission and factional mistrust 29:00 Symbolism in the children's games and the Empire's power 33:00 The complexity of youthful rebellion 35:00 Mon Mothma's dance and her moment of joy 38:00 The cost of sacrifice and Luthen's moral gray zone 41:00 Dedra and Cyril's disturbing dynamic 44:00 Bix's trauma and the grittiest scene in Star Wars history 47:00 Visual direction and symbolism in the Tie fighter rescue 50:00 Reflecting on Luke Skywalker's role in the original trilogy 54:00 The state of modern Star Wars, The Acolyte, and storytelling standards 57:00 Starfighter, Gosling, and what's next in the galaxy 58:10 Final thoughts and listener callout Key Takeaways: Andor Season 2 deepens its focus on grounded storytelling and moral nuance. Cassian fully embraces his role as a leader, bringing compassion to rebellion. Mon Mothma's storyline explores generational expectations and political sacrifice. Empire propaganda is shown through chillingly realistic parallels to history. The show doesn't shy away from mature, dark themes rarely seen in Star Wars. Visual direction and character writing are among the strongest in the franchise. Quotes: “This isn't just Star Wars. This is storytelling that trusts the audience.” “The rebellion is messy. The empire is clean. That's what makes it terrifying.” “I wish you were drunk... That line hit harder than any explosion.” “Cassian's not just fighting the Empire. He's fighting for people.” Call to Action: Enjoying the deep dives? Support us by leaving a five-star review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify! This is a podcast for Andor's second season 4 BBY story arc that gives first impressions in audio form for a YouTube audience. If you're looking for video clips of the show, you'll be disappointed, because "the Mouse" and Lucasfilm are very proactive in the way they copyright strike. If you're looking for some commentary and reactions on the first three episodes of season two of Andor, this is the place! Andor's first season was a triumph of writing and acting, at least critically. There are many who call it boring, and that's fine, because I'd rather others complain about it having to think too much than be upset with the ones making garbage like The Acolyte. If you're looking for a full recap and discussion, this isn't that kind of episode. This is just first impressions from This is the Way Podcast about the first three episodes. Episode by episode content will come later, either directly after the story arc or at a time later. Star Wars Fans STILL Called Racists in 2025.

The Last Jedi was 8 years ago, and the media is still calling Star Wars fans "racists" because of Kelly Marie Tran, John Boyega and The Acolyte (like, all of it.) The media and Lucasfilm are using Kelly Marie Tran and John Boyega as scapegoats to push a false narrative that Star Wars fans are racist, despite the vast majority being unfairly vilified. Hollywood and the media are weaponizing identities and blaming fans for their own stupidity and dumb choices, rather than taking responsibility for failures like those of Lucasfilm and Marvel. The entertainment industry's constant attacks on fans and their personal opinions are tanking movies and shows because people anticipate "one of those things" pushing an agenda. The media and entertainment industry are regressing to the 1950s by constantly shoving identity politics and agendas down people's throats, unfairly labeling Star Wars fans as racist. The industry's need to change characters and stories to reflect actors' personal identities is ruining movies and shows by prioritizing actors' lives over storytelling. Kelly Marie Tran's attempt to tie her new movie to the Star Wars controversy is deemed ridiculous and attention-seeking, as nobody cares about her new project. The entertainment industry's actions are making people mad at each other and hating unfairly when they didn't before, creating unnecessary division among fans. Diversity and inclusion are being used as tools to push agendas and vilify certain groups, symptomatic of a larger problem in Hollywood and the media.

Season 1 of Andor took Star Wars to an entirely new realm when it comes to storytelling and depth in its world, and Season 2 is stepping things up, bringing what seems like the darkest story to the screen since order 66… Overall Andor S2 Check In: Thoughts on what we've seen Thoughts on the release schedule: April 22 — E1, E2, E3 April 29 — E4, E5, E6 May 6 — E7, E8, E9 May 13 — E10, E11, E12 Thoughts on the stakes: If I don't make you cry, I will be very unhappy. “That's been our attitude all the way through: not to be cynical, and to take it more seriously than anybody ever took it. Even while we're changing—some people feel as though it's changing a lot—but even while we're changing the grammar of what you can do, we're trying very rigorously to be more serious about this shit than anybody ever has been.” Ghorman Massacre: “Ghorman, interestingly, is canonical but completely undescribed. It's a total blank slate. There's also a bit of confusion about the Ghorman Massacre, and what is the Ghorman Massacre? There's a lot of confusion within canon. So, it was an opportunity to rebuild in a really significant way. It's a very significant part of our show that can do a lot of different things for us. Quite honestly, it's very expensive to build, so we really want to use it as much as possible so it carries over five different episodes. I'm really confident that the really deep, passionate Star Wars community will appreciate how we've straightened out that story.” ───────── JOIN OUR DISCORD! https://discord.gg/cdQgvgg3 ➤ Listen to our podcasts here: https://bit.ly/3gJIBg9 ➤ Twitter: https://twitter.com/StarWarsUplink ➤ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/starwarsuplink/ Your place for everything Star Wars Gaming, the TV Shows, and Movies! This could be a real adventure—and a real vibe shift for Growing Up Skywalker.Hot off the heels of our coverage of The Mandalorian's first season, we're diving into a brighter side of the galaxy in Skeleton Crew.In our recap of the premiere, “This Could Be a Real Adventure,” we discuss the mysteries of At Attin, the tyranny of suburbs, and the glorification of busyness. We also cover the critical reception of the show (which contrasts heavily with the reception of The Acolyte during a similar timeframe) and continue our Mandalorian-era discussion of justice as enforced by the New Republic.Neither Sam nor Anna has ever seen Skeleton Crew before, so we're all in this adventure together!Want more Growing Up Skywalker?
