Metabolic syndrome is not a disease itself but rather a relatively new term that has been used to describe a cluster of disorders that together provide an indicator of risk for diabetes, heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular conditions. Participants in this month's podcast include the Cardiology team of Dr. Robert Stauffer and Kyra Reichardt, CNP from the Heart and Vascular Institute at Freeman Health System in Joplin, Missouri, Dr. Peter Sheehan who is the Chair of the American Diabetes Association's Cardiometabolic Risk Initiative, and Tricia Cwiklinski who is a Support Coordinator for WomenHeart and is currently living with both heart disease and type 2 diabetes along with metabolic syndrome.
