Put It In Your Pocket is a podcast about dating and relationship advice brought to you by Swag Talks. Swag Talks is a YouTube channel hosted by Drew and Megan, a couple of married designers with a mission to help people build a strong identity and personal brand. One of the categories under identity is dating and relationships, as many people tend to identify success and social standing with relationships that can end up causing harmful or destructive habits. We provide a different, young professional perspective on dating as opposed to the cliche "relationships are hard but rewarding" mantra you are taught as you grow up. We want to spread positive and productive dating advice that is going to set you up for success in the future and with your other relationships. We will also be bringing guests on with much older and wiser experience to discuss red flags and things to watch out for as you go through the dating process. We hope you're as fired up as we are to talk through this! Join the conversation!

In this Episode, Drew and Megan discuss a New York Times article that recently came out with tips on how to date during the coronavirus quarantine. Some of them are helpful, but some of them are pretty strange. But regardless of your stance on whether or not you should wear a mask, the safety of you and the person you are trying to date is priority number one.

Who pays for what when you're dating?

It is a common notion for the guy to have to pay for everything when dating. Or at least that has been our experience growing up. It's an old concept, but the idea of courtship that dates back many years fuels the idea that the guy needs to take charge (which we have talked about in the last 2 episodes—go check them out). But thinking the guy needs to take all of the pressure in paying for stuff is just silly. When you are getting to know someone, starting to date, and then getting serious, you still have no responsibility over that person. You have no rights and no privileges towards the person you are dating (obviously, until you get married). Now, maybe this concept isn't difficult to grasp and you're thinking, duh, we should just both pay for our own stuff, or our own food, or movie ticket, or whatever. But, how easy is it for that to come across when you are going on those first few dates? Are you supposed to say "hey, you're grabbing your own meal, right?" That doesn't sound too nice, does it? So how do you approach this conversation and then speak honestly with the other person? Find out and Drew and Megan discuss that topic in this episode!

Is it weird for girls to ask guys out on a date?

In this Episode, Drew and Megan talk about whether or not it is weird for girls to ask guys out on dates. Common historical practice seems like this role belongs to the man, but as of late, there appears to be a breaking of cultural norms in that more women are taking initiative and making the first move. Is there a defined and clear role here? Or should it be completely equal for both parities involved? Find out what we think and then let us know your thoughts! Should I be dating multiple people at the same time?

In this episode, Drew and Megan are discussing whether or not dating multiple people at the same time is a good practice, along with their good friend Jasmine! There are people on both sides of the spectrum that say setting up multiple dates with different people is totally fine. While on the other hand, some people think only dating one person at a time is best. Find out what Drew and Megan think about this concept as they navigate through their definition of dating and how everyone can be intentional in their relationships.Things like dating apps and speed dating events can be useful ways to meet someone, however there is a real danger to be aware of. Jasmine gives some great perspective on how to use things like dating apps in a way that is glorifying to God and makes sure to account for His plan as opposed to our own desires.Check out these helpful passages in Scripture:1 Corinthians 13Luke 14:28–30Reach out to us at our website, follow us on Instagram, or find us on YouTube! What's the difference between dating and hanging out?

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 4, 2020 13:26

We all know what hanging out means. It means you're not really sure if you are dating someone yet. So then how are we supposed to define hanging out? Is it romantic? Are there certain activities that shouldn't go under the hanging out category but should go under dating? In this episode Drew and Megan discuss the differences between these two popular phrases and how we should think rightly about them. Swag Talks created the Put It In Your Pocket podcast with the hopes of helping others understand the role of dating and building strong relationships using the lens of Scripture as a guide. We believe dating should not be as hard as many make it out to be, and while there's no easy fix or secret sauce, there is an easier way to go about relationships than being stressed out all of the time.
