    My Kids Finally Hate Me

"When your kids hate you, that means you're a good parent." - Jennifer Carney Jennifer uses this episode to celebrate the fact that her children told her, "they hate her." Her perspective is soo needed during the time were in because she explains why this is ideal because we are not here to be our kids friends. Even though many freak out at the idea of hearing this, Jennifer explains kids will say things they may not mean but it means your tough love is working! It will be harder to lay down the law if you portray a friendship and not the person in charge to your children. Their job is to push our buttons so we can't be upset that they continue to take more of what we give them. Jennifer explains wanting to be loved and wanting to be respected are two different things as a parent. They need to learn these lessons from us and not anyone else. She said the "hate" should equal an extra class of wine and cheers to ourselves for being a great parent. This ability to not give in should be just like the strength we must carry in the beginning when sleep training our children and the desire we have to help our children when they try to cry their way out of the crib.  Jennifer even follows through with some additional parenting advice about "threatening" our children to nip their behavior. Just like the promises we keep to ourselves, in order to achieve respect with our children we must threaten them with things we can follow through with.  This 15 min episode is FULL of gems for mommas and parents who are navigating the new normal of 24/7 parenting amidst this pandemic.

Is COVID requiring a whole new level of parenting that you weren't ready for? It's normal to feel uneducated and unprepared for where we are at during this time. The entire family is home, the kids are home, and you were not prepared to be a full time educator! Jennifer gives some tangible easy ways to help your kids during this time to help them learn. She encourages mommas to give themselves some grace because we are not all teachers, and everything is a learning experience. You do not have to have a paper lesson every single hour of the day while trying to manage your existing work life balance. It is normal to be disappointed in the fact that you feel like you can't provide the same structure your children receive in the classroom, all you can do is offer the best possible learning environment and assist along the way.  COVID-19 has changed our lives forever and will go down as a season our children will never forget. Our only goal needs to be making it easier on our children and ourselves equally while maintaining our sanity.
