The Bible is the ONLY way to know God! Interpreting Scripture is not an easy task but with several KEY elements guiding our minds when reading, we can rest assured we are not going to make grave errors. The ORIGINAL meaning is what we should be looking for in the Bible, not "our" meaning. Of course, there is an application, but that is derived from the original intent. Without sticking to these two things we can be sure we'll take Scripture out of context when we teach it to others and will be guilty of error! Time machines are not available... So we'll just have to use what we have. While not a necessary 'tool' in our belt for interpretation, knowing and realizing that the bible is an OLD set of writings is imperative. Not because it is out-dated, but because there may be some things in there that we don't need to mash into our contemporary timeline. WWJD is not the answer! Narratives tell what happened, they don't always tell us what we are to do. When we apply narratives wrongly we can actually cause people to walk in sin out of ignorance and worse, even hurt their fellow man. This podcast will talk about this error and give a few examples such as the daughters thrown out during the destruction of Sodom; Jesus' cleansing the temple, and the Apostles calling out heretics. Let's listen and learn. We appreciate your listening and look forward to seeing this podcast get off the ground with great force. Reading vs Interpreting Scripture | A Few Short Thoughts Primer

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 11, 2018 11:09

Interpreting Scripture Well, as you know the Bible can be intimidating and at times we can read something within the pages and wonder what we have seen as if it were in another language. While this is true, I believe it stems from the error of thinking that we have to "interpret" every portion of Scripture.  For the most part, Scripture is very simple to understand and when it becomes difficult, we can divine the meaning from the rest of the words around the foggy portions. This podcast will discuss briefly this matter and give some simple insight. Stay tuned as we launch this podcast where we will spend many hours dealing with proper interpretation and many wrongly applied passages.
