Welcome to The ED POETS Society podcast! My name is Manny, your guide, and I wanted to share my passion of all things Poe - from the well known to very obscure short stories, poems plus haunting insights into Poe's tragic life and mysterious death. Please
Yes I am bringing this podcast back from the dead especially for the Halloween season to discuss in more detail his mysterious death to honor him on the actual date he sadly passed away in more detail. I did an episode about this before but it was very brief and it was missing quite a few details so I'm doing a better episode to discuss his very mysterious death. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theedpoetssociety/message
In my final episode I explain my absence, why I'm ending this podcast (temporary hiatus?), I briefly discuss whether Poe considered himself more a poet or short story writer, I'm sharing my favorite Poe quotes and I recite my 13 favorite poems by Edgar. I also have a special announcement in my Farewell. Quoth the passive aggressive raven - NEVERMIND...
In this bonus episode I put together my two favorite poems by Edgar Allan Poe- "Annabel Lee" and "The Raven" so enjoy these two highlights from a couple of past episodes of The ED POEts Society podcast. QUOTH THE RAVEN NEVERMORE!!! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theedpoetssociety/message
In this episode I talk about an argument between Poe and a certain editor named Griswold. I'm calling it The Gentleman's Feud. I explain the rift between the two literary scholars and why Griswold wrote such a nasty obituary which actually did the opposite effect that made Poe infamous. I'm reading an original flash fiction short story called "For Elise" and the two poems I'm reading by Poe are "Lenore" and "The Sleeper". This is an Improper Poetiquette segment from episode 5 entitled "Nevermore". I discuss a 'what if' scenario where Edgar Allan Poe is alive in the 90s and either starred in or wrote episodes of popular sitcoms of the time with hilarious and macabre results. In this episode I am sharing the official obituary of Poe which was written by a nemesis of his to slander Poe and his work but had the opposite effect. The two poems I am reading are entitled "A Dream" and "Dream-Land". This week's episode I discuss the mysterious man who for over 70 years would go to Poe's grave on his birthday to toast him with a bottle of Cognac and three roses. The two poems I share are "The City In The Sea" and "The Valley Of Unrest". I also read the first half of "The Pit And The Pendulum" and due to time constraints I will read part 2 in the next episode. This episode I briefly discuss Poe's obsession with perfect handwriting and what you can learn about a person by their handwriting alone. I read The Raven which is Poe's most widely known poem and this weeks Improper Poetiquete segment is about what if Edgar was alive in the 90s and either starred or wrote episodes of famous tv sitcoms. That would make some imteresting tv! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theedpoetssociety/message
