Kate breaks down the cartel-run trafficking operation she caught on camera at the southern border, the courtroom fight to reclaim her own company from a hostile takeover, and the tunnel walks behind House The Heroes, her nonprofit rescuing homeless veterans. She's already survived assault, betrayal, and a legal battle to keep everything she built — and there's a political announcement coming that she says will shake the Republican Party.
Shadow of a Doubt was Alfred Hitchcock's favorite of the many classic films he directed, with its small town setting disrupted by the arrival of a dastardly murderer on the run from police. Joseph Cotten played the charming killer, and Teresa Wright was his niece and namesake who discovers his horrible secret. We'll hear Mr. Cotten recreate his role on Academy Award (originally aired on CBS on September 11, 1946) and in a Suspense adaptation of "The Most Dangerous Game" (originally aired on CBS on February 1, 1945). We'll also hear his co-stars Hume Cronyn and Macdonald Carey in Suspense shows: "The One Who Got Away" (originally aired on CBS on November 14, 1946) and "The Missing Person" (originally aired on CBS on May 12, 1952).
This week marks the 1-year anniversary of Trump's boat strikes in the Caribbean and Pacific oceans. On September 2, 2025, President Donald Trump announced the first air strike on a boat in the Caribbean. Trump said the boat allegedly carried drugs off the coast of Venezuela. It marked the beginning of a hostile U.S. foreign policy that has seen the U.S. invade Venezuela, unleash a devastating oil blockade on Cuba, and justify it all under a renewed Monroe Doctrine, which the President is calling his Donroe Doctrine.Meanwhile, the boat strikes have continued until today, even though Trump administration officials say they have not actually decreased the amount of drugs arriving on U.S. soil. As of this week, the U.S. government has attacked at least 68 boats over the last year, killing more than 220 people. The Trump administration is now using his foreign policy to attack progressive opponents at home, labelling them pawns of Cuba, and "one of the single largest, most sophisticated and dangerous vectors for hostile foreign influence in modern American history."In this episode, Michael Fox walks through the anniversary of the boat strikes. He dissects a new Cuban report published by the State Department to attack dissidents at home, and then looks at the regional resistance to Trump at the Panamerican Congress, which was held in August in Montevideo, Uruguay. Detectives Lenny Briscoe and Ed Green investigate the murder of a career criminal in a parking lot. While Ronny Buck's death could have been a mob hit, it has the hallmarks of an amateur shooting. The detectives learn Buck was running a cleaning scam to rob businesses. One heist is connected to the unsolved murder of an electronics store owner. Briscoe and Green discover connections between Buck and the victim's wealthy widow, Lorraine Corbin. ADA Serena Southerlyn learns Lorraine's daughter lied about her mother's alibi and that an unidentified woman paid Buck to have the store owner killed. Interim District Attorney Nora Lewin wants to try Lorraine for both murders, but the judge will only allow one at a time. As EADA Jack McCoy corners the defendant on the stand, she confesses instead to covering up her daughter's involvement in the shooting. But a boatload of trouble between mother and daughter is revealed. We're talking about Law & Order season 12 episode 3 "For Love or Money." Our returning guest is Grishaverse creator, author of Shadow and Bone, Six of Crows, Ninth House, and the upcoming Dead Beat, Leigh Bardugo. Do no harm but take no shit.Historically, especially under a patriarchal rule, women have been taught to be selfless, self sacrificing, useful, and kind over everything else. The goal is to be seen and not heard. To be pleasant and palatable. While I think those are great virtues and attributes under a normal context, the patriarchy is not a normal context. Our society puts profits over people, so being taught to be self sacrificing is dangerous. Our society doesn't have our best interest at heart. Am I telling you to not be kind, or generous? No. I am telling you to back off of the self sacrificing role that a lot of us were forced into. Compliance, obedience, and self sacrifice is dangerous, yet it's what many of us women were taught as the “normal” expectation of us. Remember that Matilda couldn't access her magic until she was pissed off.SOURCES:https://meridianuniversity.edu/content/shadow-work-meaning-in-jungian-psychology-explainedhttps://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/compassionate-feminism/202505/the-post-forties-villain-erahttps://livstclaire.substack.com/p/villain-eraRead Julie's Medium Blog.Support JULIE (and the show!)Support + get some bonus stuff over on PATREON.Get an occasional personal email from me: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTune in on INSTAGRAM AND YOUTUBE or TIKTOK.Info on War Tax Resistance.Donate to the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund and the Sudan Relief FundThe opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. Scary Halloween stories meet analog horror in “I Do Not Know You” by Tyler Belmont, a supernatural horror tale about a vintage tape recorder that knows its listener's secrets—and announces the exact moment he is going to die.Jerry Scott runs a consumer-electronics store and collects the analog machines the modern world has left behind. Then an unmarked package appears inside his shop. The tape recorder within greets him by name, recalls private details from his life, and warns that an inhuman visitor will arrive in five minutes. When a tall figure in a fedora and long coat begins tapping at the glass, Jerry locks the doors and reaches for a baseball bat—but the recording insists that his fate cannot be avoided. This narrated horror story blends analog horror, cursed technology, cassette tapes, supernatural prophecy, shadow monsters, forced entry, psychological suspense, and a terrifying countdown to death. For more info visit: https://journ.tv — The repressive nature of this shadow is fear in the shape of control AND unconscious, meaning it doesn't know it's pushing relationship (connection/exchange) away AND playing the victim by blaming the other for feeling excluded. The reactive nature is angry that it's being excluded but it's the same dynamic as the repressive except now it's actively lashing out for the whole thing.

Dive into our literary analysis of House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas, the long-awaited third novel in the bestselling Crescent City series. In this season, we break down House of Flame and Shadow through an academic lens, using our combined 13 years of literary training to analyze Bryce Quinlan, Hunt Athalar, Ruhn Danaan, Lidia Cervos, and the novel's most pivotal character arcs, relationships, and world-building. We explore Sarah J. Maas's use of symbolism, mythology, foreshadowing, narrative structure, and character development while examining the book's biggest themes, including fate, power, identity, sacrifice, love, and redemption. Whether you're searching for a House of Flame and Shadow recap, Crescent City theories, Sarah J. Maas Easter eggs, Maasverse connections, ACOTAR crossovers, or in-depth literary analysis, this season is your complete companion to one of the most talked-about fantasy books of the year. Spoilers: This episode contains full spoilers for House of Earth and Blood, House of Sky and Breath, as well as the entire ACOTAR series (A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, A Court of Wings and Ruin, Frost and Starlight, and A Court of Silver Flames). Any other books or larger Sarah J. Maas universe theories and connections will be discussed in a separate Breadcrumbs and Broomsticks episode. Chapters Summary: Ithan heads to the House of Flame and Shadow to seek a necromancer to raise Sigrid from the dead, and in the process becomes Jesiba Roga's unwilling assistant. Bryce returns from Prythian, only to be caged like an animal in the Autumn King's estate. Lidia puts her plan into motion, breaking Ruhn, Hunt and Baxian from the Asteri's palace and destroying the Spine of Pangera with the help of Ophion and Irythis. But her best laid plans take a turn, requiring the males to fly for the Depth Charger while Lidia faces down the wolves she once led, knowing it'll be her doom. The question we ask ourselves this week: Now that we're in part 2 of HOFAS, how have the themes of the story and character arcs changed or remained the same? As a child, Lim Muy Lang grew up in a prosperous Sino-Khmer family in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, in the late 1960s and early 1970s. When the Khmer Rouge seized power in April 1975, her family, along with the entire population of Phnom Penh, was forced to immediately leave the city for the countryside. What followed was a harrowing struggle for survival under the Khmer Rouge's radical revolutionary regime, which led to the deaths of all of Muy Lang's immediate family members, and much of her extended family. In the Shadow of the Khmer Rouge: A Child Survivor's Memoir (NUS Press, 2026), is Muy Lang's account of what happened. It's a story of almost unimaginable pain, cruelty, and loss, but also an incredible struggle for survival. And not least, the book is a delightful, deeply personal recollection of childhood and family life in Cambodia before 1975. Learn more about your ad choices. People don't exist. The more we keep pushing to create community the more we are affirming separation. There is only Oneness. There is only one thing going on here, and it's whole. When we look into "another one's" eyes, we are looking at the embodied knowledge of our past, our present or our future. But because we lie to ourselves (for the most part without even knowing it) we can't see who we really are, and we miss all the awesome... Until we don't. https://journ.tv/planet-homemaking-podcast-episode-854-the-shadow-of-gene-key-59-dishonesty-part-3/
For this episode we're joined by veteran music scribe and A&R man Mitchell Cohen to discuss his long career and his brand-new book. We start in the Bronx of Mitchell's youth and hear about the impact on him of local hero Dion DiMucci. From there we take the D train down to mid-'60s Greenwich Village and relive our guest's discovery of the scene he chronicles in Wake Me, Shake: New York City, the '60s & the Pop-Rock Youthquake. After celebrating the beloved Lovin' Spoonful we turn our attention to their fellow Village denizens the Blues Project, listening to clips from Sam Williams' 2022 phone interview with Project/Blood, Sweat & Tears alumnus Steve Katz. En passant we also touch on Laura Nyro, Shadow Morton and other New Yorkers who opted not to join the '60s exodus to California. Mitchell then talks about the years he spent at Arista Records – the subject of his first book and the label to which, in 1989, he signed Dion. The heartbreaking death of Dolly Parton demanded we pay tribute to the life and art of that extraordinary woman. Having written a beautiful piece about "America's sweetheart" back in 2019, our guest is perfectly placed to explain her unique appeal. Finally, Jasper and William talk us out with their thoughts on newly-added library pieces about Betty Davis, Kelis, Trent Reznor and Sleep Token. Many thanks to special guest Mitchell Cohen. Wake Me, Shake Me: New York City, the '60S and the Pop-Rock Youthquake is published by Trouser Press and available now. Pieces discussed: Shall We Dance? Shadow and the Shangs: a teenage melodrama, David Johansen: Position Of A Vagabond Missionary, Steve Katz audio (2022), How Dolly Parton Became America's Sweetheart, Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner, Dolly Parton: Confessions of a Power Crazed Wig-Model, Dolly Parton: American Idol, New York Report: Betty Davis, Kelis: AfroPunk, Trent Reznor: The Great Dictator and Sleep Token.

In this episode of "Truth and Shadow," host BT engages in a deep conversation with guest Cory Hughes, a dedicated researcher of the Kennedy assassination. The discussion delves into the complex life of Lee Harvey Oswald, exploring theories of dual identities, intelligence operations, and the broader geopolitical implications of the assassination. Cory shares insights from his extensive research, challenging conventional narratives and uncovering new evidence that suggests Oswald's life was intertwined with covert operations. The episode invites listeners to question historical narratives and consider the hidden forces that shape our understanding of history.Cory's Website: coryhughes.org
A death predicted by a curse. A family with too much to lose. And The Shadow is pulled into a case where superstition may be hiding something far more dangerous than magic. When a wealthy Jamaican family begins falling apart under the pressure of an Obi death curse, Lamont Cranston and Margo Lane find themselves inside a nightmare of drums, warnings, and fear. But the deeper they dig, the stranger it gets - because the real enemy may be using belief itself as a weapon. You'll hear a classic pulp mystery unfold with all the atmosphere the series is famous for: a funeral parlor coffin ordered before sunset, a sister convinced death is in the house, a high priest accused of murder, and a hidden treasure that could explain why one man is willing to let his entire family die. We break down the eerie power of suggestion at the center of the story, the tension between occult fear and rational explanation, and how The Shadow keeps pushing past appearances to expose the human motive underneath the supernatural smoke. This episode is perfect if you love old-time radio, gothic suspense, twist endings, and stories where the truth is more shocking than the curse. If you want a tight, creepy mystery with danger, deception, and a final reveal that snaps everything into place, press play.
H.W. Brands, author of America First: Roosevelt vs. Lindbergh in the Shadow of War, Part One: In April 1939, Charles Lindbergh returns to the United States amidst rising European tensions. Gaining global fame for his 1927 solo transatlantic flight and sympathy from his infant son's tragic kidnapping, Lindbergh remains an incredibly powerful public figure. He holds a stubborn admiration for German culture but is deeply wary of Adolf Hitler, believing Britain is in decay and will drag the U.S. into another war. FDR attempts to co-opt Lindbergh into his administration, but Lindbergh fiercely guards his independence. He takes to the national radio to advocate for strict American neutrality, deeply mistrusting FDR's step-by-step interventionist approach. (1)

In this very special episode of Trophy Talk Kevin and Max team up to talk about games that are still only playable on PlayStation 3. Throughout the episode Kevin gets a little trigger-happy with the soundboard and Max goes through a few beers to quell the frustration of Sony's hubris. First they run through some special plat shoutouts, and then Max sprints at a record pace through the list of games mentioned in the previous PS1, PS2, and PSP episodes of the Mooglecast. Starting off the main topic of the show they each talk about the many obvious games like the Resistance, Infamous, Motorstorm, etc. They also bring up some of the other lesser talked about games like Puppeteer and Mod Nation Racers. Then there are loads of 3rd-party games to talk about like Wet and Castlevania Lords of Shadow. While many of them can be played on the current XBOX, we still want to play the games with the feel of a Dualsense in our hands and to earn a few trophies while basking in the greatness of what was the PS3. They also talk about the many indies that were released only as downloads when these were Sony's first steps into the digital frontier. Stay through to the end of this very long episode because Kevin has a very special message to relay from composer and game developer Jerrel Dulay. Thank you for listening and we hope you enjoy the episode!
TONIGHT-CONTENTS-8-26-2026California Swells Weather And Nevada CasinosJeff Bliss discusses a massive southern ocean swell creating rare surfing conditions at Newport Harbor's channel. Driven by an intense tropical storm off Mexico, California is experiencing unprecedented humidity and a nearly five-degree Fahrenheit rise in ocean temperatures, prompting a surge in marine life including hammerhead and great white sharks. Turning to Nevada, Bliss describes the K-shaped economy, where Las Vegas strip casinos profit from wealthy international tourists, while local traffic declines. He details In-N-Out's slow, quality-controlled eastward expansion and concludes with Berkeley's controversial, permissive approach toward housing campus homeless encampments, noting they receive government-funded clean needles and glass pipes. (1)Separation Of Powers And Election FraudRichard Epstein discusses a federal ruling by Judge Indira Talwani blocking the Trump administration's postal mail-in voting regulations for the 2026 midterms. Epstein asserts the administration overstepped, as the Constitution explicitly delegates election regulation to Congress, not the executive. He criticizes Chief Justice John Roberts's defense of the unitary executive, calling his opinions a disgrace that allows executive power to swamp both the legislature and the judiciary. Lastly, Epstein references Paul Krugman's views on Trump's destructive physical and institutional teardown of Washington and laments how flawed standing doctrines prevent ordinary citizens from legally challenging executive overreach in federal court. (2)Veronique de Rugy of the Mercatus Center details the alarming surge of the United States gross national debt to record heights, exceeding forty trillion dollars. She argues that the country suffers from an out-of-control spending problem rather than a lack of tax revenue, citing massive unpaid pandemic spending. De Rugy blames both political parties for avoiding structural reforms and warns of the critical 2032 deadline when Social Security and Medicare funding will face automatic, severe cuts. She predicts that Congress will resort to further debt and inflation, which will heavily penalize the public, while indebted European nations face similar struggles. (3)Economic Boom In Idyllic Lancaster CountyJim McTague details the thriving post-pandemic economy of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Tourism remains robust, with attractions like the Renaissance Faire drawing two hundred thousand visitors annually. The local real estate market is red-hot, with retirees purchasing existing homes with cash and bid-ups creating million-dollar McMansions. McTague notes that rising inflation has packed Costco aisles with middle-class shoppers seeking the famous five-dollar loss-leader rotisserie chickens. He also discusses local commercial resistance to data centers, explaining how the impoverished borough of Columbia rejected a lucrative data center deal that would have solved its fiscal deficits, while baby boomers power local restaurants. (4)Small Business Growth And AI IntegrationGene Marks reports on his travels, conversing with host John Batchelor about a Quebec credit union conference where executives discussed loans, competitiveness, and adopting AI in front and back offices. Due to high mortgage rates, credit unions are shifting focus toward commercial loans. In Atlanta's thriving steel industry, tariffs have boosted competitiveness, and companies are deploying AI-powered robotic arms, gloves, and dogs to improve safety. Finally, a recent Pew Research survey indicates that Gen X is leading AI adoption because older, established professionals feel more secure than younger generations, though Marks calls the fear of job loss an urban legend. (5)French Resistance And World War ExileJane Rogoyska, author of Hotel Exile: Paris in the Shadow of War, Part Two: Rogoyska details how German anti-fascists and French Jews fled Paris for Marseilles and Spain in 1941. While Heinrich Mann escaped successfully, philosopher Walter Benjamin tragically committed suicide at the Spanish border. Rogoyska notes that Samuel Beckettjoined the resistance after Paul Léon's arrest. The Abwehr, aided by the treacherous priest Robert Alesch, infiltrated resistance networks, but was sidelined as the Gestapo's brutality worsened. Post-war, the Lutetia hotel became a repatriation center processing concentration camp survivors. Beckett survived and wrote literary masterpieces, while Alesch was executed. (6)Nuclear Politics And Precision Guided WarfareHenry Sokolski, executive director of the Nonproliferation Policy Education Center, discusses the unpublicized nuclear cooperative agreement between the United States and Saudi Arabia. He warns host John Batchelor that keeping side agreements secret from the American public prevents Congressional oversight. Saudi Arabia refuses to sign the additional protocol for inspections, claiming it violates sovereignty. Sokolski also highlights Poland's conflicting stances on hosting nuclear weapons, Germany's interest in funding the United Kingdom's Trident submarine program, and how Russia uses precision-guided munitions to target civilians and demoralize Ukraine, moving nuclear weapons further into the background, concluding that this is the new reality. (7)Debating Environmental Politics Of Data CentersKevin Frazier leads a roundtable with Jim McTague and Simon Constable discussing the political and environmental backlash against data centers. Frazier details how Lancaster City welcomed data centers to erase its school district's deficit, while the poorer borough of Columbia rejected a lucrative deal due to local protests. Frazier argues that data centers are vital national infrastructure, defending the construction jobs they create and noting that blocking them harms the digital economy. Finally, Constable shares trivia from his Wall Street Journal quiz, revealing that Virginia leads the United States in data centers, followed globally by the United Kingdom. (8)V

His brother Nick is indicted on two counts of first-degree murder with a lying-in-wait allegation and has pleaded not guilty. 9:50 — The Fork Report takes on the drive-thru. Hour 2 (8.28) Neil Saavedra spent a good chunk of this hour convinced Conway was talking about Bill Handel. Conway was talking about a bald eagle. It got worse from there. 7:05 — The Fork Reporter walks in mid-conversation, hears "Shadow," and assumes Handel. Then a Spanish lesson: esposa is wife, esposas is handcuffs, and Saavedra insists that's a coincidence. Plus a look ahead at Daisy Chain Fields — 45,000 people at Great Park Saturday with highs near 93. 7:20 — The drive-thru, fully diagnosed. Why the menu board breaks otherwise functional adults, what the eleven cars behind you are experiencing, and the specific person who begins reading the menu at the window. Related: nobody reads the instructions on anything anymore, drones included. 7:35 — Crazy Taxi, GTA, Forza, and the era when KFI had video games in the building. Then Handel's birthday party, where Saavedra turned up as Bane from The Dark Knight Rises. Somehow this becomes religion, stereotypes, and The Da Vinci Code. 7:50 — Conway on the pleasures of retail, specifically the frozen aisle. Saavedra's position: the freezer game has leveled up considerably and people haven't noticed. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Great mentors don't have to be in the room to still be at work in your life. In this episode, Dr. Stephen breaks down "the Shadow Effect" and why the impact of a truly influential mentor can outlast their physical presence by years, even decades, and how to keep drawing on that wisdom instead of waiting for someone new to hand you today's answer.
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you loosened your grip on the plan and started following what lights you up instead? In this episode, Jessica sits down with Cameron Oaks Rogers: creator of the Freckled Foodie empire, host of Conversations with Cam, mom, and TBMer. Cameron shares how a life-changing accident pushed her to leave her career at JP Morgan, start a food Instagram, and eventually build it into a thriving podcast and community. They talk about testing out new passions before you leap, trusting your gut, fitting manifestation into motherhood, and letting yourself evolve. Cameron also gets real about body image, breaking generational patterns, showing her kids what true self-worth looks like. If you're feeling pulled toward a new career, a creative project, or just a new version of yourself, this episode is your permission slip to begin.
