Amen. ***** RECIPES FROM RITA: MUFFULETTA WITH OLIVE DRESSING Instructions One large loaf Italian bread, sliced into two horizontally.Vary meats and cheese to suit you. Filling: 1/2 pound each: thin sliced baked ham and provolone cheese1/4 pound thin sliced hard salamiThinly sliced tomatoesThinly sliced red or other onionsLeaf lettuce (opt) Dressing Go to taste on this. If you don’t like black olives, use Greek or green. You may wind up with dressing left over. It makes a nice spread for wraps. Ingredients Go to taste on this, tasting after it’s made.1/2 cup minced black olives2/3 cup olive oil1/3 cup red wine vinegar1-2 tablespoons minced onion1/2 cup fresh basil, finely chopped or 2 teaspoons dried1 teaspoon minced garlic1 teaspoon dried oreganoPepper to taste Instructions Whisk together dressing ingredients. (Can be made a day ahead). Set aside.Hollow out bottom loaf, leaving ½” thick sides.Hollow out top loaf, but leave sides a bit thicker.Spread dressing on inside of top and bottom loaves. Set top aside.Start layering meats, cheese, vegetables and lettuce, brushing each layer with dressing, until you run out of filling.Press each layer down really firm as you go.Press top onto sandwich, pressing down really firm, wrap and chill for 1 – 8 hours.Cut into big wedges to serve. Skewer with long toothpicks. Take the bite out of onions!Put slices in ice water for 20 minutes to several hours, then drain. ***** BONUS RECIPE: VALENTINE’S DAY SHORTBREAD COOKIE HEARTS Easily doubled. Makes up to 1-1/2 dozen, depending on size. Ingredients: 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature3/4 cup powdered sugar1 tablespoon vanilla2 cups flour1 teaspoon baking powder1/8 teaspoon salt Instructions Preheat oven to 350.Line baking sheets with parchment paper or spray with cooking spray.Beat butter and sugar until fluffy.Add vanilla and beat until combined.Whisk together flour, baking powder and salt and add slowly to butter mixture. As soon as it’s mixed well, stop beating. Too much beating results in a tough cookie.Form dough into ball, put in plastic wrap and smoosh down to flatten. Makes rolling out easier.Refrigerate 1 hour or up to a few days to firm up.Roll out on lightly floured surface to 1/4” thick.Cut into desired shapes, re-rolling as necessary. (If you’re going to sprinkle with sugar, do it now and press down real gently to make it stick).Bake 14-17 minutes or just until edges start to turn light brown. Cookies will be a bit soft but will firm up nicely after cooling. Powdered sugar frosting with milk or water 2 cups powdered sugar3-4 tablespoons milk or water1/2 or so teaspoon vanillaFood coloring (optional) Instructions Whisk everything until you get right consistency.Add food coloring drop by drop.Extra can be stored in refrigerator and whisked at room temperature.Powdered sugar frosting with light corn syrup (more glossy and dries harder). Ingredients 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted, then measured2 tablespoons light corn syrup3-4 tablespoons milk3/4 teaspoon vanilla extractFood coloring (optional) Instructions Whisk everything until you get right consistency.Add food coloring drop by drop.Extra can be stored in refrigerator and whisked at room temperature. To frost cookies: After they cool, I like to dip the cookies face down in the icing. Carefully wiggle it around a bit so the whole top gets coated. Extra can be scraped off edges if necessary. Place on rack to dry. Or you can drizzle the icing on with a fork or whisk. Dateline: Munich Security Conference, Friday–Saturday, 13–14 Feb 2026.Europe cheers Secretary of State Marco Rubio, principally because he did not harangue and berate the audience, did not hector and threaten. His tone was conciliatory, and the audience gave him an ovation. But this was a shameful spectacle of weakness and desperation. Europe revealed that it would give anything to return to ‘normal', to how things were before Trump. They revealed that they'd still rather hang off the coat tails of the U.S. than stand up and face reality. This was a spectacle of timid and fearful children, not adults or leaders. It was even more desperate, because Rubio did not bring a return to ‘normality'. His tone may have been soft, but there was no change of substance detectable, no shift in national security policy. Hiding beneath the soft fabrics of his words, lies a cold and dark truth – the U.S. intends to meddle in European democratic affairs, promote populists and disruptors. Weaken the continent, not strengthen it. Rubio came as a wolf in sheep's clothing to Munich, and European leaders and analysts duly flocked to praise him as signifying a return to normality. Normal is over and is not coming back. It's time to wake up; time to grow up and cut the umbilical cord with a U.S. that has other priorities, and other distractions. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Read more about Project23 and partner with us as we teach every verse of the Bible on video. Our text today is 1 Corinthians 4:6-7. Pride rarely shows up overnight. It inflates slowly—one comparison at a time. The Corinthians were comparing leaders, comparing gifts, comparing wins, and comparing influence. Every comparison pumped a little more air into the ego. So Paul says: I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another. For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it? — 1 Corinthians 4:6–7 There it is: "puffed up." Inflated. Air-filled. Hollow confidence built on comparing yourself to someone else. Comparison is spiritual bloat. It makes you look bigger, but it always makes you weaker. Paul doesn't just call it pride—he shows what fuels it: You compare your strengths to someone else's weakness. You compare your wins to someone else's struggles. You compare your gifting to someone else's calling. And suddenly, you're "puffed up in favor of one against another." Comparison always produces two outcomes: inflation or deflation. Neither leads to humility. So Paul places a pin in the ego with one question: "What do you have that you did not receive?" It's one of the most humbling sentences in the chapter. Your gifts? Received. Your opportunities? Received. Your abilities? Received. Your influence? Received. Your successes? Received. When you realize everything is a gift, boasting feels ridiculous. You didn't earn the breath you're breathing. You received it. When you remember everything comes from God, something beautiful happens: The bloating stops. The ego shrinks. The comparisons fade. Gratitude rises. Because you can't be "puffed up" when you know you're living on received grace. Therefore, puffed-up faith pops under pressure. So stay grounded. Stay grateful. Stay aware that everything you have comes from a generous God—not a comparison chart. DO THIS: Identify one area where comparison has inflated or deflated you. Then replace comparison with gratitude by thanking God for what you've received. ASK THIS: Where am I most tempted to compare myself with others? What gift from God have I been treating like something I earned? How would gratitude—not comparison—change my posture today?
