Show Notes Outdoor Adventure Lifestyle Podcast — Episode 542 Paul Gagner: Reimagining Outdoor Retailer, Leading With Integrity, and Building Dreamland Safari Tours in Kanab, Utah Welcome to the Outdoor Adventure Lifestyle Podcast—where we share inspiring stories, thrilling adventures, and expert insights from leaders and legends across the outdoor adventure travel community. In this episode, Rick sits down with Paul Gagner (outdoor industry veteran + co-owner of Dreamland Safari Tours in Kanab, Utah Dreamland Safari Tours+1). Paul's four-decade career spans retail, sales rep life, and leadership roles at iconic outdoor brands—plus his current work helping guide the reimagined Outdoor Retailer show headed to Minneapolis, August 19–21, 2026. Outdoor Retailer+1 Episode highlights Outdoor Retailer "tribe energy": why the show has always felt like a high-school reunion—and why outdoor is different than other industries (shared passion, not backstabbing). Long-view leadership: Paul's core values—integrity, listening, collaboration, and innovation—and how they apply across retail, brand, and rep roles. Dreamland Safari Tours: buying a guide business right before COVID, shutting down 10 days later, then having one of the best years in company history after reopening. Why Minneapolis: "the outdoors is woven into the city"—lakes, trails, paths, and a vibrant outdoor economy surrounding the convention center. Star Tribune+1 Leadership Village: creating a space for diverse voices, spirited debate, and actionable outcomes (not just conference "talk"). Outdoor Retailer+1 New + Discovery focus: elevating emerging brands and the retail experience (including collaboration with Garage Grown Gear). Outdoor Retailer+1 Experience-first mornings: the idea of protecting time for trail runs/paddles before the show floor opens—so attendees walk in energized and connected to the why. Favorite gear: Paul's go-to piece—his Hyperlite Mountain Gear Summit Pack—and the bigger lesson: simplicity wins. About Paul Gagner Paul Gagner is a veteran outdoor industry leader and the co-owner (with his wife, Sunny Stroeer) of Dreamland Safari Tours, based in Kanab, Utah. Dreamland Safari Tours+1 Their company guides hiking, backpacking, scenic tours, and offers astrophotography experiences/workshops in the desert Southwest. Dreamland Safari Tours+1 Paul also co-leads the Outdoor Retailer Leadership Village—a stakeholder-led initiative shaping the reimagined national show in Minneapolis. Outdoor Retailer+1 What you'll take away from this conversation Why trust is the real currency of outdoor retail + brand partnerships How "innovation" doesn't have to mean reinventing everything—it can mean relentlessly improving what matters Why outdoor businesses (and trade shows) need to deliver actionable ideas people can take home and use immediately How guide businesses can thrive when they focus on transformation: getting people outside and watching what happens next Links & resources Dreamland Safari Tours (Kanab, UT) Dreamland Safari Tours Dreamland Safari Tours — About Paul + Sunny Dreamland Safari Tours Dreamland Safari Tours — Intro to Astrophotography Workshop Dreamland Safari Tours Outdoor Retailer — Official site + 2026 Minneapolis dates (Aug 19–21, 2026) Outdoor Retailer Outdoor Retailer — Leadership Village + Garage Grown Gear collaboration announcement

The woman at the heart of Intruders returns—and her story is more powerful than ever. This week on Dreamland, Deb Jordan Kauble joins us for an intimate and revelatory conversation about the extraordinary encounters that shaped her life and helped define one of the most influential contact cases in modern history. Long before the hybrid narrative entered the UFO lexicon, Deb lived through experiences that Budd Hopkins would document in Intruders—encounters involving strange beings, impossible children, and an emotional dimension that no simple theory can contain. Now, decades later, Deb brings her own voice, her own understanding, and her own extraordinary clarity to the story. We explore the deep human side of these encounters: the maternal connection, the sense of unfinished relationship, the lingering mystery, and the profound questions of identity and purpose that followed. This is not a retelling—it is a reframing, an expansion, and in many ways, a revelation. What did the beings want? Why was Deb chosen? What is the true nature of the children she met—and what do her experiences say about the hidden history of contact itself?Join us for a journey into one of the most emotionally charged and enigmatic corners of the close-encounter world, guided by a witness whose honesty and insight have only deepened with time.

In this conversation, guest host James Faulk from the Neon Galactic podcast and noted psi researcher Adam M. Curry explore the nature of consciousness and of reality, working to chart where the two intersect and where they might diverge. Curry describes his decades of research into psi phenomena, both with the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR) lab and at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, and how best to capture the elusive effects in controlled conditions. Curry, a noted experimenter and inventor himself, explains various methodologies and how they perform in the field. The conversation covers a lot of ground, from Curry's early years as a remote viewer onward. They also explore the subject of plasma, both in terms of psi capabilities and Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. They further contemplate the state of psi research overall, and consider the implications of its acceptance by mainstream science. What does the world look like if psi is a proven fact? What changes? What stays the same?

This week on Dreamland, we welcome Dr. Dean Radin to explore one of the most intriguing frontiers in consciousness research: the emerging genetic clues behind psychic perception. We dive into a recent study comparing people who report lifelong psychic abilities with those who don’t—and the surprising discovery of a subtle but consistent genetic difference between them. Dr. Radin explains what this means, why it matters, and how centuries of persecution against mystics and “witches” may have created the modern skeptics community. We also explore the deeper implications for human evolution, intuition, and the hidden capacities of the mind. Along the way, Dean discusses how these findings connect to the themes in his provocative new book, The Science of Magic.

Professor Tim Murithi in this interview explains how Africa has always been a central part of the UFO encounter phenomenon. Murithi is an internationally respected advocate for peace, a member of the Society for UAP Studies, and an affiliate of the International Coalition for Extraterrestrial Research, or ICER. He is also head of the Peacebuilding Interventions Programme at the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation in Cape Town, South Africa, as well as the Extraordinary Professor of African Studies, at the Centre for African and Gender Studies, University of the Free State, also in South Africa. Murithi has more than 25 years of experience in the fields of peace, security, international justice, governance, and development, and has become an avid scholar of the UAP phenomenon, African folkloric connections to UAP, and the global politics of disclosure. We discuss UFO history in Africa, including the rather prescient scientific knowledge of the Dogon Tribe, E.T.-related Egyptian myths, and the Ariel School event in Zimbabwe, including its investigation by Harvard psychiatrist Dr. John Mack. We drill down on how knowledge that we are not alone may impact the state of our struggling world. Finally, we explore the need for a truth-and-reconciliation movement — such as the one deployed in South Africa to end apartheid — to finally break through what UFO scholar Richard Dolan calls “the truth embargo.”

He found this liberation and internal worth in the unlikeliest of places: the world of the tuba. You'll hear why the tuba, often dismissed as the ‘fat elephant' of the band, became a metaphor for breaking free of limits and an antidote to the inertia of addiction. Sam shares incredible stories, from the enormous popularity of the tuba in Mexican immigrant communities in Los Angeles to the legendary tale of the two "perfect tubas" that are the "Holy Grail" of the instrument. This conversation reveals the powerful life lessons learned in the band room: postponed gratification, perseverance, and collaboration.
