Your new favorite band talks music (their own, as well as other great finds) and other weird stuff from HR central in Richard's living room.
After yet another long break, we return to discuss and play the rest of the songs from our debut album, leaving only a little room for miscellaneous conversation that, as a result, is very random indeed. Plus, Chris has an unjustifiable amount of fun with the sound effects in Garage Band. We'll see you back here after we rethink the podcast for season 3!
We're back again, gibbering on about politics, religion, Jerry Falwell, looks back and forward at shows past and future (including a mention of our first-ever out-of-town show, which is upcoming in July), and the many other things you've come to expect from us. Except beer. Oh, and we continue our series of talks about songs on the album with 'Walk Away'. You know you missed us!
After a busy few weeks, we look back on our epic St. Patrick's Day, look ahead to the McDowell Mountain Music Festival, and break into impromptu song! We also discuss the Song a Week Podcast and some of our other doings.
Yet again we wait a long time between podcasts -- this time, we were delayed by hardware troubles -- but we're back with lots of exciting news and another song from our debut album. This one's short and sweet as we hunker down to prepare for our two St. Patrick's Day shows! (more info on those at the website, and perhaps in the next podcast if we can get it out in time.
So we vanish for almost two months without a word, and then we offer up two RoadCasts in a week?! What gives? I'll tell you ... It's (Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanzaa/Winter Solstice) time! And as a very special treat, we're proud to offer three new holiday-themed compositions available solely through the RoadCast, performed live in the Pierce Street studios. We also bring back the BeerCast for one night and one night only, and talk about some other stuff, like our upcoming Dubliner Shows (40th St. and Thunderbird, Jan. 12 and 13). Keep an eye out soon for news about a special guest appearance at those shows that could make them among our best ever! In the meantime, Happy Holidays and be good to one another. And don't forget to check out the previous RoadCast episode, chock full of music and news!
Wow, we've been away for awhile! Did you miss us? You know we missed you! This time around we feature our first real special guest, Boston-based singer-songwriter and longtime friend of Chris's Jon Waterman (visit www.jonwaterman.com to see more!). We also talk about some fun past shows (with sound snippets of some of the other acts) and upcoming shows -- incidentally, we misspoke in the RoadCast: The Dubliner shows are coming up on Jan. 12 and 13, not Jan. 5 and 6. Enjoy this one quickly because our Christmas RoadCast is hot on this one's heels!
We carry on our epic Roadcast series on the songs from our debut album, If Not Tonight ..., with a discussion of Suicide. Further, we talk about the wonders of butter and Battlestar Galactica, and finally offer up a solution to the violence in Iraq. You've never heard a podcast like it!
The debut album is no longer upcoming -- it's here! We talk about our historic album release show, as well as how you can get the album if you weren't at the show or you're out of state, or you're just lazy. Also discussed are exciting music we found on garageband.com and more. This episode's featured Haiku Rd. song is 'I'm Sure You Could Tell.'
Season Two of the RoadCasts continues with a discussion of 'One Leg at a Time', the first song on our upcoming debut album. We talk about band news, including the Aug. 25 album release show, and blather on on various other topics. We also introduce our first non-Haiku Rd. music track, highlighting one of our favorite local bands: World Class Thugs. We introduce a new Arrested Development-inspired feature, too!
Finally, we begin Season Two of the Haiku Roadcasts! And of course that means two things. One, we've finished our debut album! And second, it means it's time for some changes in the Roadcast format. We've ditched a lot of our side commentary (including the controversial Beercasts) and opted for a shorter, leaner all-music podcast. Coming up this season, we'll talk about each of the songs on the album, how it got written, how it got recorded ... all those sorts of things. First up: Take Me Out.
This time around, it is Richard's turn to look like a fool! (Okay, not much different than any other time ...) Also, Erik kicks it off with a recap the latest performances, Chris reads some "listener-mail," Richard reads a passage from a real nail-biter of a reference/instructional book, and -- big shocker -- we talk beer (Hobgoblin Ale, Tetley's Ale and Fishtail I.P.A. -- not to metion some ideas on the origin of I.P.A.). BTW, Erik is very proud of this week's sound FX.
To start things off, we make Erik look like a fool! Then, we look back at Bands on Grand in the rain and look forward to our upcoming shows. We also talk about Richard's grand scheme for bird flu masks, and beer (Spaten Oktoberfest Ur-Maerzen, Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale and Sierra Nevada's 2006 I.P.A.), then bring back our celebrity ImpersaGuest(tm) segment, talking with Paul Reubens from beyond the grave. He keeps insisting he's not dead, but we know better!
This week: Join us for strange things coming from Richard's hind end, regional oneupsmanship, more Bands on Grand ... and we introduce SHEEP to the podcast!
How do we do it? We don't know; we just do it. This week's beers are Samuel Adams Brown Ale, Pyramid Ale Snow Cap (Seasonal) and Grolsch Lager. And we talk about them. A lot. Also, jittery for Bands on Grand, Erik's Grand Canyon, some mumbling, and ... a special treat!
Into the breach again, dear friends! Highlights this week include: Pestilent soup, Dick Cheney's itchy trigger finger, Chris speaking in tongues!
We talk about the strange and distrubing relationship between chilis and beer, editorial cartoons and free speech, and Richard Gets Up To Pee. Erik is sick, with strange things coming out of his ears. And his mouth.
We had a great show this past weekend, and another coming up this weekend. We talk about music, cow-tipping and the Ohio public education system. We also experiment with time travel and talk with TWO celebrity ImpersaGuests(tm), Matt and Trey from South Park!
This time around, we have some stuff to show and tell! There's new intro music to the podcast courtesy of our long endeavors in the studio (it's very rough, so chances are you won't even recognize it by the time the album comes along), as well as, somewhere in there, a complete song! Lots more beer is drunk, of course, contributing to this week's beercast (Negra Modelo, Fat Tire and Deschutes' Jubilale, if you must know). More discussions of our lives and about life in general, and of course news about our forthcoming album, which comes ever more forth every week. Our celebrity ImpersaGuest(tm) this week is Catherine Deneuve!
Richard is back, so we talk about our holidays, particularly criminal activity over the holidays (not by us, silly!), our astonishing progress on the debut album and absurd superstitions about young musicians dying in plane crashes. We also feature an extra-long beercast this time, with three different beers!
Richard is out of town, so Erik and Chris go to town, talking about beer (of course), 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' versus 'We are the World' and Elvis Costello. This bonus-length podcast also features all four Haiku Rd. Christmas songs!
Here we come with this week's installment of the Haiku Rd. podcast. This week, we discuss Richard's imminent holiday departure, Winnie the Pooh, Boddington's Pub Ale and more! Visit our site at www.haikurd.com. And as always, stay cool.
Hello and welcome! For our first podcast, we get around to playing those Christmas songs you guys asked for (very rough ... it's three guys sitting in a living room playing in front of 3 microphones -- what do you expect. We also update you on where the album is, where we're going, what it was like for Richard to discuss sex with his six-year-old, that sort of thing. We offer what will probably be the first of many beer reviews, this one for Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Send us your comments at podcast@haikurd.com. Visit our site at www.haikurd.com. And as always, stay cool.
