He's appeared in such movies and shows as X-Men 2, iRobot, Stargate SG-1, Falling Skies, The Strain, X-Files, Supernatural, The Flash, Once upon a time, and currently Murder in a small town, airing on Fox. He created and wrote comic books for AfterShock comics, with his writings appearing in the first two volumes of the Shock Anthology, culminating in his first full length graphic novel “10 years to death” which was released back in October of 2021. We recorded this one live on #ScarifLive last week and dropping it in here this week. As I discuss movies and fandom in my day to day, I realize that as a kid, I wanted more of what I loved. Star Wars led me down a path of wanting to learn about ILM and Lucasfilm, etc. In turn I found out about Indiana Jones and Willow, Star Trek and countless other science fiction shows and movies because of my love of the genre. But I'm finding out that fans now a days hyper fixate on one aspect of an IP. No one talks about specific directors of special effects artists, etc. It was that curiosity that made me learn the names Ben Burtt, John Dykstra, Marcia Lucas, etc and that yearning never died. I brought a panel on to discuss how they experienced that yearning for more. We touched on how we learned about shows like Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars on TV as Scott put it and more. Are today's fans changing their need to reach out and seek more within the genre of sci fi and fantasy? If you love Darth Vader and don't know who Sebastian Shaw is then THIS might be an episode for you. Thanks for listening. Remember, we are a proud founding member of the RED5Network, and that's the scuttlebutt.

The Fork In Your Ear Podcast Ep#208 Three Sips of Mold & A Side of Legoland 2-7-26 ### Fork in Your Ear Podcast Episode Summary Provided By Grok **Episode Overview:** In this lively episode of the *Fork in Your Ear* podcast, hosts Tim K.A. Trotter (author, podcaster, and gamer) and Nate (from 1,400 miles south in sunny Southern California) dive into casual banter, life updates, gaming, tech, and entertainment. Recorded live in their Discord with active listener Cara providing real-time chat input, the duo spins a wheel to guide topics, blending humor, personal stories, and geeky discussions. The episode runs about 3 hours, filled with tangents, laughs, and occasional technical glitches (blamed on Nate's "curse"). #### Life Updates (Weather, Health, and Family Shenanigans) - **Weather Woes and Wins:** Tim gripes about rainy, 52-degree Washington weather, while Nate enjoys unseasonably warm 78-degree days in SoCal. They joke about seasonal affective disorder and regional stereotypes. - **Health Mishaps:** Tim recounts accidentally drinking mold three times from a contaminated Burger King frozen Coke (via unclean straws), leading to sniffles and sneezes. Nate shares family illnesses, including his daughter's possible strep throat, and his own past bronchitis-prone childhood. - **Family Fun:** Nate describes a Legoland trip for his niece's birthday, staying in a Ninjago-themed hotel room with bunk beds and riding the park's tame roller coasters (top speed: 30 mph). Tim celebrates his wife's birthday with a 3-hour Olive Garden wait (worth it for the food) and a themed high tea party for *Bridgerton* Season 4, complete with homemade treats, fancy attire, and a switch to watching *Firefly* afterward. - **Work and Personal Growth:** Tim discusses hiring a new Kenyan employee, learning Swahili greetings and cultural insights (e.g., 58 dialects in Kenya). He notes the training challenges but feels positive. Both share emotional ups and downs, with Tim on an upswing overall. - **Listener Interaction:** Cara chimes in from Pokémon Go walks, sharing catches and joining the chaos. #### Video Games - **Dome Keeper Deep Dive:** Both rave about the roguelike mining/defense game. Tim unlocks upgrades like gravity inversion and challenges for badges; Nate plays on easy mode, with his daughter texting for tips (and hilariously declaring "Daddy, you failed me" after a loss). - **Other Mentions:** Brief nods to VR games with Nate's cast-wearing niece (he co-pilots as her "left hand"), and upcoming co-op in Dome Keeper. #### Technology - **AI Music Creation:** Tim experiments with Suno AI for an EP, writing lyrics himself but using AI for music generation. Ethical debate ensues: Nate's okay if it's original and not ripping off artists' likenesses, but wary of monetization. Tim plans to release under an alias after copyright checks. - **Gadgets and Upgrades:** Tim upgrades to a 14-inch M4 Max MacBook Pro for work (beefier than his M1 Max). He praises the new AirPods Pro 3 for superior sound isolation and plans to test live translation with anime. Nate teases Tim's mold-drinking mishap tying into tech woes. - **Other Tech:** Discussions on pharmacy strikes affecting meds, Amazon Rx, and electric motorcycles (Nate eyes one hitting 0-30 mph in 1.1 seconds, prompting Tim's safety concerns). #### Entertainment - **Sad News:** Catherine O'Hara's passing at 71 after a brief illness; the hosts are midway through *Schitt's Creek* and note her recent roles. - **TV and Movies:**    - *Wonder Man* (Disney+): Tim binges and loves the dry-humor Hollywood satire starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as a struggling superpowered actor; no prior MCU knowledge needed.   - *The Studio* (Apple TV+): Tim enjoys the Seth Rogen-led comedy lampooning Hollywood execs (e.g., pitching a *Kool-Aid* movie bigger than *Barbie*).   - Upcoming: Star Wars *Maul: Shadow Lord* animated series (post-Clone Wars era); God of War live-action cast (e.g., Mandy Patinkin as Odin); Baldur's Gate TV series at HBO (post-game 3, no developer involvement—hosts skeptical).   - Dragon Ball updates: New series with Super and Beerus, plus a game (*Dragon Ball Age Zero*—unofficial title). - **Geeky Bits:** AI-generated Batman multiverse image; Cara's eclectic DVD/Blu-ray collection (Hercules/Zena, Battlestar Galactica, Harry Potter, rom-coms like *Romancing the Stone*) gets a fun live roast/review from the hosts. - **Movies Watched:** Nate on *Battles One After Another* (DiCaprio-led comedy with dry humor on a weird subject); Tim teases Sam Raimi's upcoming film with high expectations. **Highlights and Vibes:** The episode shines with unfiltered bro-chat, from moldy drink horror stories to ethical AI debates. Tech glitches add charm, and Cara's live input keeps it interactive. Ends with shoutouts and the signature "Good Forkin'" sign-off. No 80s show is complete without Wolfman Jack, Cousin Oliver in Space, Mr Brady and of course those wonderful flying motorcycles. We seemed to block out a lot of this show out of our minds, so journey with us this weekend as we try and recall the silliness of arguably the best decade for nerd IPs. Were you a fan of the original Battlestar Galactica? Are you a fan of the reboot show? Did you witness the travesty of Galactic 1980? Did you survive? Of course you did, and what a time it was. We Draft Our Favorite "Desert Island" Sci-fi TV Series! In this special episode of Culture Clash Live, Hosts Kyle & Kevin welcome guests, Lacee, Gary and Robert, as we each take turns drafting our Top 3 favorite Sci-Fi TV series of all time, in a Fantasy Football style "snake draft".  Here are the drafting parameters & rules: The draft will be 3 Rounds in a Fantasy Football Snake Style Draft. Rules will be explained before the draft starts. These are our favorite shows, not necessarily the best sci-fi shows. The draft order will be randomly set just before we draft.  Parameters & Rules: - The IMDB Sci-fi show listing must have “Sci-fi” mentioned in its genre section.  - You cannot draft a franchise, only a show within the franchise. - The Sci-fi Show must have aired at least 6 episodes.  - You must clarify your choice of the original or reboot series. - Most important! Once a sci-fi show has been picked, it's off the board and can't be picked by anyone else.  For SPOLIERS on the draft results, see below: Let's do this thing!

This episode was originally produced for Patreon sponsors in July 2025 and is now being shared with main feed listeners to showcase the bonus content available through Patreon membership ($3/month gets early access, exclusive episodes, and more!). THE DECADE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING: From Jon Pertwee's January 3, 1970 debut to Tom Baker's dominance through 1979, John and Jim reflect on ten years of color, UNIT, Masters, companions, and the evolution of the Doctor. THE BIG QUESTION: WAS PERTWEE'S TIME PROPER DOCTOR WHO? John's Challenge: "When you consider what we had in the 60s, what is proper Doctor Who?" The Batman Comparison: Like Batman needing parents killed, what are the essential Doctor Who elements? The Core Elements They Identify: Rebel/Iconoclast: Always up against authority Itinerant: No fixed location (even when exiled, Pertwee chafed at it) Time and Space: Non-negotiable Companion: Someone to talk to, bounce ideas off Scientific Curiosity: Every Doctor has this Eccentric/Off-Kilter: From Hartnell to modern Doctors British: "Has to be British. I know that sounds weird - he's an alien - but yeah, has to be British." PERTWEE AS THE SUPERHERO DOCTOR: Breaking From Troughton: Far more action-oriented. Troughton actively distanced himself from violence. Pertwee waded right in - Venusian Aikido and all! The James Bond Comparison: Show runners wanted "James Bond," but Jim saw more superhero than spy. Ushering In The 70s: "Nobody could have ushered in the 70s but Jon Pertwee. Troughton just could not have done it. Hartnell, absolutely not... New decade, new everything." Adam Adamant Connection: John's been watching Verity Lambert's follow-up series with Sydney Newman - Victorian man in suspended animation recovers in 1960s. "Pertwee's Doctor was Adam Adamant - man out of time, fish out of water." THE UNIT ERA - ADDITION OR SUBTRACTION? Jim's Take: "It added to it. It's a whole new layer that very much appeals to me. A paramilitary organization led by dynamic characters you want to root for." The Brigadier Factor: "You look forward to every interaction he'd have with the Doctor because you knew it was going to come close to a throat. His frustration with the Doctor and the Doctor with him." Continuity Innovation: First time Doctor Who had ongoing character plots! Mike Yates' betrayal and redemption across seasons. Bessie > Romance: "We were more impressed with Bessie back then." TOM BAKER - THE YOUNG DOCTOR: The Big Change: First time the Doctor wasn't an older gentleman - "this young man. But still not handsome!" The Beatles Analogy: Hartnell = John Lennon (fits like a glove!) Pertwee = Paul McCartney (leader of the pack, the charming one, ladies' man) Troughton = George Harrison (the spiritual one) Tom Baker = Ringo (John: "Tom Baker and Ringo, pretty much cut from the same cloth") Product of His Time: Baker represents late 70s - the hair, floppy clothing, the scarf as his version of ladies' knitted shawls, the big coat. The 80s Problem: "More and more as we're getting into the 80s, he's not really working as an 80s Doctor... Peter Davison seems like the 80s Doctor that should be there." Following Trends: The show followed trends more than ever - Star Wars influence obvious, but also Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers. Saturday night scheduling against Buck Rogers killed ratings (lost half the audience). BAKER FATIGUE: The Unique Problem: "You never hear Hartnell, Troughton, or Pertwee fatigue, but you hear Baker fatigue." Jim's Confession: "I had a little Troughton fatigue." The Blame Game: "I blame the producers of Doctor Who. They should have moved Baker along sooner instead of leaving it to him. There was precedent - they fired Hartnell!" Jim's Prediction: "I can't imagine Davison, Baker, or McCoy topping Jon Pertwee." John's Counter: "Davison will topple Pertwee. Pertwee will stay number two for me. He's a formative Doctor." Jim's Concession: "I'm going to give Davison the benefit of the doubt that he may push Tom Baker down." THE BAKER RECKONING: Jim's Frustration: "All this time I've heard almost nothing but Tom Baker, Tom Baker, Tom Baker - as if there's nothing else, no one else in this show since 1963. It's really interesting now to have gotten almost to the end and seeing that, for me, he ain't all that." The Diagnosis: "He's not bad. It's just not my cup of tea. He's been more annoying to me than anything. That's just that kind of character I don't care for." Only Three Stories Left: Moving into the 80s in full! THE TOM BAKER CHALLENGE: Jim's Dare: "Come on, bring on the hate emails. I'm waiting for it. Bring it on. I know how special he is to a lot of people." NEXT TIME: Patreon Exclusive #126: Music, Big Finish's "Doctor Who and the Pirates," Memory TARDIS spin, catching up on email Main Feed: Warrior's Gate - The end of the E-Space Trilogy! Jim handles narration for the four-parter. "The beginning of the end... preparing for the moment." From the swinging 70s to the itchy 80s! Television didn't always remember. For decades, episodes reset like clockwork, characters lived in cheerful time loops, and anything resembling continuity was considered a liability. Then came a wave of rebellious creators, strange experiments, and a generation of fans armed with VCRs — and everything changed. In this episode of Geekstorians, Dave rewinds to the era when TV grew up. From Hill Street Blues quietly teaching networks how to tell long-form stories, to Star Trek: The Next Generation bending the rules, to Twin Peaks turning mystery into obsession, and The X-Files training audiences to become detectives, this was the decade television learned to think in arcs.We dive into J. Michael Straczynski's audacious five-year blueprint for Babylon 5, and how it helped invent the modern showrunner/fandom feedback loop. Then it's on to Buffy the Vampire Slayer — the series that rewrote the emotional architecture of genre TV and launched a writer's room that would shape the next twenty years of storytelling. After that comes the rise of cable: Angel, Stargate SG-1, Carnivàle, and the 2005 Doctor Who revival becoming proof that genre could be ambitious, sincere, and mainstream. And finally, the 2000s network scramble — the adrenaline of 24, the puzzle-box frenzy of Lost, the heartbreak of Firefly, the ambition of Battlestar Galactica, and the improbable triumph of Fringe. All of it leads to the blueprint that streaming would later inherit — and occasionally break — as binge culture transformed how we watched, talked, and obsessed. This is the story of how geek TV conquered the schedule, reshaped fandom, and taught the world that continuity isn't a burden… it's a promise.Geekstorians is written and hosted by Dave from Geektown. A few days ago, we lost Gil Gerard—forever Buck Rogers in the 25th Century to a generation of kids who grew up in the late 70's believing the future was sleek ships, sharp one-liners, and heroes who always found a way...oh yeah and some absolutely beautiful woman. For Shawn, Buck Rogers wasn't just a show. It was a piece of his childhood. It was imagination, escapism, and optimism wrapped into a weekly ritual. Years later, that love became something more when Shawn and Shiff took it live on The Place to Be Pop Feed back in 2021–2022 when Battlestar in the 25th Century Podcast began. What started as Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century watch-alongs turned into a journey—one where Shawn got to share the shows that shaped him with someone who had never experienced them. The goal was simple: pass along the joy, the absurdity, the heart, and the fun of the sci-fi that made Shawn who he was. And then came what would become the final episode of the pod. A one-off. A curveball. A deep dive into Gil Gerard's personal journey, including his decision to undergo gastric bypass surgery. It is still talked about in Backbone circles as the first and only podcast that truly broke Shiff. Laughter, disbelief, humanity—it had all of it. And fittingly, it centered on the man who meant so much to us in the first place. Gil Gerard wasn't just a TV hero. He was human. Complicated. Honest. And willing to share his story in a way that connected with people far beyond the world of New Chicago. So this is a tribute—to Gil Gerard. To Buck Rogers. To childhood wonder. To shared fandom. Then, we get a historical deep dive on watermarks and paper making, we chat about Michael and Creeds different versions of damage control, and Angela reveals her all time favorite line from The Office. Finally, we get some on-set memories from Shira Scott Astrof, the actress who played Andy's young girlfriend, and we come full circle with this episode's tag where Dwight's plan of imitating Jim totally backfires.
