Acomi and Turk182, being gluttons for punishment, decide it's time to start watching the next failed Hammer House television series, Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense; known in the US as Fox Mystery Theater. The HHOMS episodes don't disappoint, and stay terribly true to their distant cousins. Just like House of Horrors, Mystery and Suspense are filmed in the United Kingdom, but has an American actor, or two, playing the main character(s). The stories... The stories are just as bad. Mark of the Devil sets the series off right with Dirk Benedict, of the original Battlestar Galactica and The A-Team, plays a small time con-man, and poor gambler, with scheme to cash in and pay off all his debts. But, when his bad luck segues into a bad idea, he finds himself marked with his unfortunate decision, and nowhere to turn. Yeah, it only it was as good as that sounded. Join Acomi and Turk as they force their way into another series of poorly written, and disappointing thrillers. Grin and bear it, and watch Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense - Mark of the Devil. Acomi and Turk182, along the occasional special guest, provide running commentary of awfulsome movie and TV shows. The hosts select movies that either one, or both, have never seen. All jokes and comments are improvised. NO PREPARED JOKES OR COMMENTS! During recording, the movies are watched at a low volume and with the subtitles on. Viewers may want to turn subtitles on as well to enhance the viewing experience. So, cue up the audio, ready the movie, and hit play when we say so. This episode contains: Steven and Ben continue to cast without the delightful presence of one Devon Craft. We discuss out upcoming Traveller game (an amazing science fiction role playing game). Steven then tells why “today was not a good day for Steven.” Because of this, Steven is not prepared and so this is a much looser episode. So we talk about FTL, which Steven has not played since 2015, the Battlestar Galactica board game, and the recent history of indie video games. Steven brings up RimWorld, Tin Can, The Last Starship, and Cyberpunk 2077. Ben tells us about Plunder Panic, a patriate video game. Science Fiction: Ben tells about the 856th episode of Star Trek or the 11th episode of Star Trek Prodigy. The Borg return in this “super good episode.” Star Trek Prodigy also has a video game, which Ben has of course played. Ben also knows what the fourth Star Trek film might have been. Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth were going to team up somehow. We also discuss Ghostbusters, including the 2016 film and the animated show, because why not? Ben informs us of MythBusters Junior. Our guest today is 80s star, multiple-awards film, and theater actor, and activist, Edward James Olmos.Olmos's roles in films or TV shows like Stand and Deliver, Battlestar Galactica, broadway musical and film Zoot Suit, Blade Runner as detective Gaff, and many others are some of the most memorable of all time and he's still dominating our screens. While I could not resist talking about his iconic roles over several decades, we mainly discussed Olmos' new must-see film, Chasing Wonders. The picturesque Australian/British drama was the official selection at the Adelaide film festival in 2020. The beautiful cinematography of the film was shot over a five years period to authentically capture the coming of age story by screenwriter, Judy Morris. Chasing Wonders is a story of hope, possibility adventure, and overcoming your past – a heart-warming story of a young boy, who, encouraged by his grandfather (Olmos) to live a life of hope and possibility, takes off on the adventure of a lifetime to find the magical Emu Plains. His journey through the lush landscapes of Australia and Spain leads him to the heart of the human condition – learning to acknowledge the complexity of what comes before us but struggling not to be defined by the past. The Hollywood Walk of Famer earned an Academy nomination for Best Actor in the 1988 drama, Stand and Deliver. He gave a stellar lead performance as Bolivian- American educator Jaime Alfonso Escalante Gutiérrez.Olmos filmography is quite extensive. Literally, the man has stayed booked and busy since 1974. He's appeared in over 130 films, TV shows, and plays. One of his outstanding roles is perhaps,  Lieutenant Martin Castillo in the Miami Vice (1984) as a series regular. A fan-favorite for sure. But if we do talk about Lieutenant Castillo we must mention Olmos' role as Detective Gaff in Blade Runner (1982) and a brief reprise in the sequel Blade Runner 2049 (2017). Gaff is the Los Angeles police officer who detains and escorts Deckard (Harrison Ford) throughout his mission as a ‘Blade Runner' to track down bioengineered humanoids known as replicants and terminally “retire” them.Olmos showed the world his versatility in both the Broadway play and film adaptation of the musical comedy, Zoot Suit. The story weaves the real-life events of the Sleepy Lagoon murder trial – resulting in the racially fueled Zoot Suit Riots throughout Los Angeles. Olmos portrays El Pachuco, an idealized Zoot Suiter, who functions as narrator throughout the story and serves as Henry's conscience in both adaptations.Honestly, I could go on and on down Olmos' filmography, but we can't spotlight all of his other spectacular films right now. So, let's get into this interview, shall we?Don't forget to click the links in the show notes to watch Chasing Wonders. Please enjoy my conversation with Edward James Olmos.

Battlestar Galactica The Mini-Series review from the Salty Nerds has them talking about the 3-hour kick off to what is arguably one of the best science fiction TV series ever made. Created by Ronald D. Moore and based on the original Battlestar Galactica show from Glen A. Larson, this "reimagining" of the Battlestar Universe stars Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, James Calis, and Tricia Helfer. The mini series shows the events of a Cylon attack against the Twelve Colonies where humanity is all but wiped out. Only a select few on a fleet of ships survive, and it is up to the almost decommissioned crew of the last Battlestar from the Cylon Wars to protect them. Battlestar Galactica 33 review by the Salty Nerds has them looking at the premiere episode of the series and arguably, one of the show's best episodes ever. The Cylons have been relentlessly pursuing the fleet for 5 days after the events of the miniseries, jumping in exactly 33 minutes after the fleet escapes them. Nerves are frayed, exhaustion is rampant, and no one knows how the Cylons are able to catch up with them after 33 minutes on the dot. This is one of Battlestar Galctica's best episodes, and it's a heck of a way to kick off a TV series! The Salty Nerds totally geek out over this episode and have little to no salt to dump during their review. What is your Battlestar Galactica 33 review? Did you love it? Hate it? Kandyse McClure's filmography is populated by a staggering range of characters. On the critically acclaimed and beloved Battlestar Galactica, Kandyse portrayed Anastasia “Dee” Dualla, a passionate woman who fought, loved, dreamt, and, ultimately, succumbed to despair. As Nicte Batan in the third and final season of Motherland: Fort Salem, she wrestled with her character's past as a terrorist while forging unexpected alliances. As Sam in Neill Blomkamp's wildly entertaining horror film Demonic, she embodied the stuff of nightmares; and as Golden Eyes in the genre-defying feature film Sew the Winter to My Skin – a role for which she was nominated for an African Movie Academy Award – she somehow managed to speak volumes about the impact of oppression on humanity without actually speaking many words at all. Other recent work includes GenZeroes (the cutting-edge project championed by friend of the pod Aleks Paunovic), Charmed, Limetown, the bonkers Netflix series Ghost Wars, and a standout role as Viola Desmond, the entrepreneur who challenged segregation in Nova Scotia in the 1940s, in an iconic Heritage Minute. The projects and roles are wildly different, but the thread that unites them is the humanity, authenticity, and conviction that Kandyse brings to each one. In this riveting episode of the YVR Screen Scene Podcast, Kandyse reflects on her journey from South Africa at 11 years old, grieving Dee, moving into her “villain era,” and dancing in her trailer.Content warning: This episode contains frank talk about suicide. Tread Perilously's Star Trek month continues with a first look at Star Trek: Prodigy via its first regular-length episode, "Starstruck." When Dal and the others flee their captivity aboard a Federation starship, they are quickly introduced to the Training Hologram with the voice and appearance of Admiral Kathryn Janeway. The hologram surmises they must be cadets and attempts to teach them about the U.S.S. Protostar, their newly acquired vessel, but Dal insists he is the captain and knows best. Meanwhile, Gwyn ends up in the brig and Zero tries to find a bunkmate while Rok and Jankom Pog learn about the food replicator. Justin and Erik compare the episode of Battlestar Galactica's "33" -- both in joking and serious ways. Erik's Kate Mulgrew impression gets a workout and a new purpose. Justin introduces a new dinosaur-themed sitcom. Both attempt to get into Prodigy's kid-focused mindset, but also end up talking about Gene Roddenberry. The problem of Dal as the lead character is also discussed. Other characters prove to be fast favorites, though. A Quantum Leap detour occurs. The possibilities of Prodigy prove inviting. Justin calls out a certain trope among villains. Brig scenes also turn out to be a trope and one flaw in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is introduced.
