[REBROADCAST FROM MARCH 22, 2022] The 2002 play, "Take Me Out," from Richard Greenberg tells the story of a professional baseball player who decides to come out of the closet, releasing a barrage of prejudice from his teammates that he wasn't prepared for. Greenberg, director Scott Ellis, and star Jesse Williams join us to discuss their revival of the play, which runs at the Second Stage Theater through May 29th. "Take Me Out" is nominated at this Sunday's 75th Tony Awards for Best Revival of a Play, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Michael Oberholtzer, and Jesse Williams.
We are ready for our office remodel! The leaked nude video of Jesse Williams in Broadway show "Take Me Out" has helped with ticket sales. What other Broadway shows could get a sexy boost? Would You Rather have a dirty kitchen and clean bathroom or vice versa? Plus, a documentary about Cabbage Patch kids coming soon!
Dennis is joined via Zoom by playright-director S. Asher Gelman and actor Noah Bridgestock from the 3-character play Afterflow, which is currently showing in Los Angeles. The play is about a gay married couple Josh (Noah) and Alex (played by James Hayden Rodriguez) whose relationship gets tested when they become romantically and sexually involved with a younger massage therapist. Asher discusses the origin of the story, which is based on his own experiences with polyamory, how the show has involved since its breakout New York run five years ago and how he and his cast approached the play's more intimate scenes. Noah discusses what drew him to the play, how he approaches the role of Josh, the financially successful man in the middle and the what it's like to take a shower on stage. The pair of them talk about the reactions they've gotten from audiences, the audible audience gasp that happens in every show, and their belief that it's a "gross violation" when an audience member steals photos or video of nude actors like Jesse Williams in Take Me Out which is currently running on Broadway. Other topics include: what it's like when couples breakup after seeing your show, the challenge of finding the right ending, the number of women who come to the show, how the characters' work and financial lives resonate in the story and what it's like to have long luxurious Little Mermaid hair. www.afterglowtheplay.com

Let's be honest, America's real pastime is eating. If you ask any sports head that question though, they are already humming "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" and envisioning the toppings for their hotdog. This week we chat all things baseball with the director of programming at a major sports network, Alli Bertucci, and get into the details of goopy vegetables, which pickles reign supreme, and what stadiums have some of the best food in town. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/mirepoixtastebuds/support
This week, Meredith and Ricky deep dive into Season 2, Episode 1 of Sex and the City, "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." You guessed it! This episode deals with balls of every kind, from low hangers to high-fliers! And full disclosure, the sports references were completely lost on Ricky because he kept saying, "Take Me Out to the Ballpark," meaning he has never paid attention to that song. And frankly, thinks baseball has no business being in this show. Join us as we witness Miranda's descent into full toddler fashions. On the show today... In a very rare interview about her personal life, Michelle Williams has confirmed she is pregnant with her third child and finally revealed her second child's name, but there's a reason why she's kept her personal life out of the spotlight for so long. Plus, Grey's Anatomy star Jesse Williams has gone viral after a video of his full-frontal nudity in his new Broadway show Take Me Out started circulating on Twitter. But before you start searching for the images, you need to know the full story behind how they were released. And Hilary Duff is on the cover of the latest issue of Women's Health, naked on both the cover and in the accompanying photospread. In the magazine profile, the actress explains why she chose to do the cover, how she prepared for it, her past struggles with eating disorders, and the pressure of her new TV role. The photos have been promoted as a stance on empowerment, but the harsh reality is that this magazine cover is not here to help us. Welcome to April 6, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate sweet success and a happy accident. When German immigrants Frederick and Louis Ruckheim first sold their caramel popcorn in Chicago, they had no idea what a huge success it would be. According to legend, one customer loved the snack so much that he exclaimed “That's a crackerjack!” which meant it was pretty awesome. And that name stuck. The brothers called the new treat Cracker Jack and it soon became a favorite with people across the country. However, the thing that really put Cracker Jack on the map was the song “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” It's one thing to have people buying your product, but it's another to have an entire stadium full of sports fans singing “buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack.” On National Caramel Popcorn Day, enjoy this classic snack. Watching a baseball game is optional. In 1938, Dr. Plunkett, a chemist for DuPont, was working on an idea for refrigeration when he stumbled upon the formula for polytetrafluro ethylene. He and his assistant discovered that this waxy material was resistant to corrosion. This is why it was first used in the Manhattan Project to produce the atomic bomb. Later it was styled into the Happy Pan, which created a slippery surface that proved to be better than cooking oil. Today, teflon reduces friction in fabric, aerospace fuel tanks and medical devices. On National Teflon Day, we celebrate this Hall of Fame discovery that helps us give the brush off to anything sticky. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson.
