Is Lula guilty of "unrealistic pragmatism"? How will Brazil react to a potential coup attempt by Bolsonaro?  And we look at the deeper social and structural context: what are the features of the Brazilian "war of all against all"? How does Bolsonaro accelerate these tendencies? We conclude by looking at the possibility of a new 'Pink Wave' in Latin America and examining the state of the Brazilian left.  Readings: After the Election: a Contribution to the Debate, Unbridled Possibility Collective, Damage /189/ Pink Tide Paradoxes ft. If we are anything here at NOMT we are fair. I did a background check on Marcus Allen and checked the people who recommended him on LinkedIn. I did not do background checks on them though. They were all political affiliations well educated and in politics or served in politics some way. I know, Marcus told me, what he really wanted to do on Tik Tok. He wanted to teach Americans how to date in the Philippines. We have spoken many times and at great length I usually get a sense of when a person means another person harm. I felt nothing like that. I do believe he is a people pleaser and we are made up of the first 5 people we spend time with. The culture is ready to please and Marcus loves the culture and its women. If you know older Pilipino women then you know they do not put up with any shit. Not one ounce of crap, so why is it the younger ones will date an older man? The culture is often poor and I understand women and the need to survive. Marcus himself told the staff that men over there father several times with several woman. Men do not care about pleasing a woman over there and this is why the thought of an older man isn't out of the ordinary. Humble, me thinks not, however I do not hate the idea of one person creating a space of safety for another person. Marcus also claims he is asexual or a never nude (you know~ Arrested Development). Which I have done for the last 4+ years in my situation and now that I am free my libido is x10. Another story for another day! I believe Marcus has changed the tone of his page. I did a live with him the other day and people still are calling him names. I understand, I really understand because he made claims at the start of his tik tok journey and little did he know he was going to trigger a lot of people. Host Greg Iwinski talks to Greg Mottola about leaning into the absurdity of the everyday, bringing a 70s-era whodunnit into the 21st century, our rediscovered love of murder mysteries, and much more. Writer and director Greg Mottola began his career with his 1996 indie dramedy film THE DAYTRIPPERS, for which he received a Golden Camera nomination at the Cannes Film Festival for best first feature film. He then went on to direct the hit 2007 coming-of-age comedy SUPERBAD, then wrote and directed the critically acclaimed 2009 film ADVENTURELAND, which earned him an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Screenplay. Since then, he has gone on to direct other film projects like PAUL and KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES. Mottola has also directed episodes of several hit television series, including the pilots of FX's DAVE and HBO's THE NEWSROOM, as well as episodes of the THE COMEBACK, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, UNDECLARED, and THE DANGEROUS BOOK FOR BOYS. He most recently wrote and directed the crime comedy film CONFESS, FLETCH, which is based on the 1976 novel of the same name by Gregory Mcdonald and a reboot of the hit 1980s series starring Chevy Chase. CONFESS, FLETCH stars Jon Hamm as the roguishly charming and endlessly troublesome Fletch, who becomes the prime suspect in a murder case while searching for a stolen art collection. The only way to prove his innocence? Find out which of the long list of suspects is the culprit - from the eccentric art dealer and a missing playboy to a crazy neighbor and Fletch's Italian girlfriend. Crime, in fact, has never been this disorganized. The film will be released simultaneously in limited theaters and on paid digital streaming platforms on Friday, September 16, and will be available to stream on Showtime starting October 28. --- Before it was a podcast, OnWriting was a print publication. Today on the show we have director, writer, comedian, and actor Jay Chandrasekhar has contributed to and appeared in a wide variety of critically acclaimed television programs and films throughout his career.Chandrasekhar assembled the sketch comedy troupe Broken Lizard, which includes Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske. Together they performed comedy across the nation until they set their sights on producing television and feature films.Under his Broken Lizard banner, Jay directed and co-wrote Fox Searchlight Picture's comedy cult classics Super Troopers, Super Troopers 2, Club Dread, and Warner Bros' Beerfest. He also directed the Broken Lizard comedy special, Broken Lizard Stands Up.Super Troopers hit theaters in February 2002 and went on to gross $23 million with glowing audience reviews (and $80 million on home video.)Jay continued on to direct The Dukes of Hazard, direct and star in Millennium Entertainment's The Babymakers, and appear in DreamWorks' comedy hit, I Love You, Man. Recently, Chandrasekhar published his book, Mustache Shenanigans: Making Super Troopers and Other Adventures in Comedy that gives a behind the scenes look at the making of Super Troopers. In addition to his feature film work, Chandrasekhar has directed various TV shows, including several episodes of the Emmy Award winning series Arrested Development, Community, Chuck, The Grinder, Up All Night, Happy Endings, New Girl, and Psych. More recently, Jay has also directed episodes of Fresh Off the Boat, The Goldbergs, Speechless, and Schooled. His new film is Easter Sunday.Stand-up comedy sensation Jo Koy (Jo Koy: In His Elements, Jo Koy: Comin' in Hot) stars as a man returning home for an Easter celebration with his riotous, bickering, eating, drinking, laughing, loving family, in this love letter to his Filipino-American community. Easter Sunday features an all-star comedic cast that includes Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley series), Tia Carrere (True Lies, Wayne's World films), Brandon Wardell (Curb Your Enthusiasm series), Tony nominee Eva Noblezada (Broadway's Hadestown), Lydia Gaston (Broadway's The King and I), Asif Ali (WandaVision), Rodney To (Parks and Recreation series), Eugene Cordero (The Good Place series), Jay Chandrasekhar (I Love You, Man), Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) and Lou Diamond Phillips (Courage Under Fire).  Easter Sunday, from DreamWorks Pictures, is directed by Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers, The Dukes of Hazzard), from a script by Ken Cheng (series Wilfred, Betas). The film is produced by Rideback's Dan Lin (The Lego Movie franchise, It franchise) and Jonathan Eirich (Aladdin, The Two Popes), and is executive produced by Jo Koy, Jessica Gao, Jimmy O. Yang, Ken Cheng, Joe Meloche, Nick Reynolds and Seth William Meier. The film will be distributed by Universal Pictures domestically. Amblin Partners and Universal will share international distribution rights.Jay also just launched a new app designed to give the power of reviews back to the people. It's call Vouch Vault."When my film, Super Troopers, showed at Sundance, it played to big laughing crowds. But when it was released to the public, the reviews were only so-so. On Rotten Tomatoes, Super Troopers, got a 38%-fresh aggregate score from less than a hundred reviewers. With the public, though, the film garnered a 90% fresh rating from more than 250,000 non-reviewers. This 38% reviewer-number stuck in my craw. I remember thinking, “Who are these reviewers, these strangers with outsized power, and why are we listening to them? Seriously. When's the last time you walked up to a stranger and said, “Hey, what movie should I see?”Our goal with Vouch Vault is to take recommendation power from anonymous strangers and give it to the people whose tastes you know and trust."Enjoy my conversation with Jay Chandrasekhar.

The Joe and Smith Podcast: Read the Book of Mormon with us

Don't adjust your podcasting devices, you're hearing correctly. Smith picks up reading before talking or anything else?!!? Joe tells Smith about why they're not funny, or maybe they're only funny to each other. Is it learned or learn-ed? JS is not a fan of smart people. The learn-ed person is kind of the natural enemy of the con artist. Joe makes an ableist joke that seminary teachers would like. Can a person get reverse-circumcised? Smith looked into it before. Joe's summary of how the contents of the BOM can be categorized into 3 or 4 categories comes from Jahndalyn's interview with Grant Palmer. Is JS LARP-ing as a 19th Century Protestant preacher in this chapter? Was Captain Kidd the same as Indiana Jones? Was the dog's name Captain? Joe reminds us of the idea where he reads a chapter. Smith prefers the Ron Howard series of The Office. Joe tries to give a pass to Arrested Development for being of its time. Smith teaches Joe about SMILE and Joe is not a fan. The guys go over new changes they would like to see in the endowment ceremony. Joe thinks the movie should be history of the entire world, i guess, and Smith wants it to get sexier.  Smith refers the listener back to an episode of Nathan for You. JS gets a little bold about truth claims in this chapter, as per use. Joe starts to make a point about his faithful friend, Dwayne, but then he forgets. Joe refuses to cut ambient noise in this ep (he didn't follow through). He gets upset about the idea that the BOM is going to teach us about the ‘consequences of sin'. Then he issues a challenge to make a tbm-friendly ep that is sincere. The guys try another take on the condescension of god. Maybe they'll get it next time.  Joe recaps some of his convo with a tbm friend which ended in the question- would the world have more sexual abuse if the church didn't exist? The guys talk about some of the methods the church uses to address the elephant in the room. Does the org structure of the church facilitate SA? Smith has heard some pretty inflammatory SA second-hand accounts. The guys are too afraid to tell their actual families about the podcast, so….spread the word? Don't forget to keep your relationships professional. Your family relationships, keep it professional. One of Joe's naughty mission companions taught him a song about smoking joints. The guys don't really have a patreon.    Mormon Stories Podcast 030-033: AN INSIDER'S VIEW OF MORMON ORIGINS — AN INTERVIEW WITH GRANT PALMER history of the entire world, i guess Nathan For You - Claw of Shame - The Event The Toyes - Smoke Two Joints Music Provided by Eric VanAusdal with permission from the artist. Our guest today is a storyteller who knows great comedy. As a director, Paul Feig has manned beloved movies like Bridesmaids, Ghostbuster and The Heat, not to mention memorable episodes of smash hit TV shows like Arrested Development and The Office. When it comes to writing, he more often than not passes the baton to brilliant collaborators, like Annie Mumolo, Kristen Wiig and Katie Dippold, concentrating on bringing their scripts to life from the director's chair. On the occasions that he does write his own screenplays, however, it's always an absolute laugh riot, full of warmth, affection, inclusivity and infectious positivity. In the late ‘90s, Paul created Freaks and Geeks – a deeply influential sitcom following the exploits of a band of high school misfits. The actors portraying those misfits would go on to dominate American comedy for decades to come: James Franco, Seth Rogen and Jason Segel all got their breaks in the show, which ran for just one season in 1999.Its legacy has lived on, though, as has Paul's reputation as a storyteller who aspires to bring people together in the movies and shows he creates. In this revealing conversation, he breaks down for us not only that show's pilot, including the scene that he believes got the show cancelled, but also elements of his hilarious 2016 espionage comedy Spy, starring Melissa McCarthy,  for a sense of how writing comedy for TV  back in the '90s differs from writing comedy for the big screen today. It's a fascinating conversation – we hope you enjoy.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek.
