SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 377, “God Can Speak in Unexpected Ways,” Kim discusses the dangers of Christ-followers trying to limit how the Lord can speak to them. We see that in today's scriptures as King Josiah refuses to believe God would be speaking through an enemy king, and it cost him his life. May our daily life theme be, “Speak, your servant is listening,” with no limits on the when or the how He can speak. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 35:20-27, and with 22 as the focal verse: 22 But Josiah refused to listen to Neco, to whom God had indeed spoken, and he would not turn back. Instead, he disguised himself and led his army into battle on the plain of Megiddo. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: When you pray, “Speak, your servant is listening,” don't put limits on how the Lord can speak. Additional Resources and Scriptures: 10 And the Lord came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.” (1 Samuel 3:10) Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/encouragingothersinlovingjesus X - https://x.com/eoinlovingjesus?s=21&t=YcRjZQUpvP7FrJmm7Pe1hg INSTAGRAM - https://www.instagram.com/encouragingothersinlovingjesus/ “Encouraging Others in Loving Jesus” YouTube Channel: Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/@EncouragingOthersInLovingJesus I WANT TO BEGIN A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST.
SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 376, “When Kindness & Generosity Flow,” Kim discusses the natural flow of encouragement, kindness, and generosity we see in the celebration of the Passover described in today's scripture passage. Today, what automatically flows from your life? Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 35:1-19, and with 14-15 as the focal verses: 14 Afterward the Levites prepared Passover offerings for themselves and for the priests—the descendants of Aaron—because the priests had been busy from morning till night offering the burnt offerings and the fat portions. The Levites took responsibility for all these preparations. 15 The musicians, descendants of Asaph, were in their assigned places, following the commands that had been given by David, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, the king's seer. The gatekeepers guarded the gates and did not need to leave their posts of duty, for their Passover offerings were prepared for them by their fellow Levites. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: Pray Psalm 139:23-24 for yourself, asking the Lord to show you what naturally flows from your heart. Additional Resources and Scriptures: 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 375, “Choosing to Respond to God's Word,” Kim discusses the importance of surrendering to the power of God's Word to change you. So many times, we approach God's Word without opening our hearts and minds to be changed by what we find there. May we learn from the example of King Josiah as he reacted to the initial reading of God's Word and then went on to publicly respond and challenge others to respond. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 34:29-33, and with 30-31 as the focal verses: 30 And the king went up to the Temple of the Lord with all the people of Judah and Jerusalem, along with the priests and the Levites—all the people from the greatest to the least. There the king read to them the entire Book of the Covenant that had been found in the Lord's Temple. 31 The king took his place of authority beside the pillar and renewed the covenant in the Lord's presence. He pledged to obey the Lord by keeping all his commands, laws, and decrees with all his heart and soul. He promised to obey all the terms of the covenant that were written in the scroll. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: Before approaching scripture, pray this simple prayer: “Please open my mind to understand the Scriptures.” (Ref. Luke 24:45) Additional Resources and Scriptures: 19 When the king heard what was written in the Law, he tore his clothes in despair. (2 Chronicles 34:19) 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. In episode 29 of the Pirate Studios Podcast, Sammi sits down with artist manager Henry Lyons for a wide-ranging conversation on finding your way into the music industry without a clear blueprint.Henry traces his journey from making remixes on GarageBand and studying at NYU's Clive Davis Institute, to assisting Hayley Kiyoko, tour managing Gus Dapperton and Claud, and eventually finding his way into artist management. Along the way, he shares stories of chance meetings, cold emails, COVID-era pivots, and the importance of staying open, curious and genuinely interested in people. The conversation also digs into what makes a strong artist-manager relationship, why success looks different for every artist, and why trust, shared accountability and aligned expectations matter more than any single industry playbook. Henry also talks about working with Wallice, her recent signing to Fearless Records, and what he looks for when building long-term creative partnerships.

SPCC plans are one of the most common - and most misunderstood - regulatory requirements in the bulk fuel industry. While the plan itself may seem straightforward, proving compliance is where things get complicated. In this episode, we kick off a new SPCC Basics series by breaking down one of the biggest pain points for facility operators: recordkeeping. From routine inspections to “as-needed” documentation, understanding what needs to be recorded - and when - is critical to staying compliant. We walk through how recordkeeping is typically structured by frequency (daily, monthly, annual), where facilities commonly miss the mark, and why simply having a checklist isn't always enough. We also cover the often-overlooked records that don't fall neatly into a form but are still expected during an audit. If you're responsible for implementing an SPCC plan, this episode will help you better understand your role, reduce uncertainty, and avoid getting caught off guard when it's time to prove compliance.
SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 373, “God's Word Transforms,” Kim discusses the biblical story about the time God's Word was “found.” The Word that was to be their guide for daily life had been relegated to a hidden spot in the Temple, and due to King Josiah's restoration orders, the missing Book of the Law resurfaced. Kim shares how this same issue can happen in our lives today and encourages listeners to never let that happen. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 34:14-21, and with 19 as the focal verse: 19 When the king heard what was written in the Law, he tore his clothes in despair. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: When was the last time God's Word brought you to tears? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. (Hebrews 4:12) 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. 2026 Show Notes Addendum: To round out our second (and final) visit to the realm of backwards VGM (and very closely related non-VGM) on Nerd Noise Radio, let's replay the 2020 original series, which was also a two-parter, but instead of being two "equal billing" parts, it was a one part "episode proper" and then a supplemental Ch F "F-isode" bonus. In addition to being one of my all-time favorite projects to work on in show history, the series also marked an important turning point in show history as the first installment was our last ever NNR broadcast on the main feed to be produced in GarageBand on MacOS (except for the deliberate call-back that was C1E75 in 2023), and the F-isode was my first ever production in Audacity and Ardour in Linux (then Ubuntu Studio (KDE), now, Fedora (GNOME)). Original Show Notes below are largely faithful to the original with one MASSIVE exception: the tracklist is now populated with all the relevant track info, where it was originally withheld to keep the mystery and mystique alive. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Original Show Notes (modified to show track names on 04/20/2026): ------------------------------------------------------------------------ You are tuned to Nerd Noise Radio – Channel F. Today's “F-isode” is significant not only for being only the second F-isode we've had in over a year, when they used to be quite a bit more common, but is also significant for being the first ever production of Nerd Noise Radio of any type to be produced entirely on Linux. Historically, the show has been produced on Mac. With a small backlog of previously-produced, but not-yet-released music blocks that were, of course, produced on the Mac still in reserve for future episodes, it will be some time yet before the Mac presence fades from the show completely. But it is my hope to do the lion's share of future all-new production on Linux moving forward. So, the shift will be a glide, rather than a snap. But that shift starts...here. Longtime listeners of the show will know full well what a Channel F F-isode is, but a pair of really beautiful things happened early this month which will have brought new attention to the show, from faces as near and dear as my fellow Des Moinesers (and surrounding communities), to as far-flung as Linux fans all the world over. For an explanation of what Channel F is, and how it relates to Nerd Noise Radio as a whole for the newcomers, as well as the details of who and what the new faces are, and how all that came about, see below. Also, for a descripton of how this F-isode relates to our April Fool's episode, “Backtracks”, see the blog....or just sit, back, relax, and enjoy, as you listen to.....”The OTHER 50”! Timestamps provided, but track details withheld for now in case anyone wanted to play the guessing game on the tracks. A follow-up blog post on April 30th will provide the entire track list information for both Backtracks and for today's outing. So, be on the lookout for that. In the meantime, enjoy! The mini-article appears in the April Issue of the magazine which can be viewed online (Link below). In addition to that, Jason Evangelho, a tech-writer for Forbes Magazine who focuses on Linux very generously boosted my tweets about my first production in Linux, which went on to become the most liked and retweeted tweet in my history on the platform. I make it a point to look at “the numbers” as little as possible, so I don't know how many (if any) of the new faces stuck around. But certainly a number of them at least had a peek. If you are a new face, either brought to the show through the Cityview article, or through Jason's buff of my tweet, get a hold of me to let me know you're here! Presuming we did have at least a few stick around, I should give an explanation of what Channel F is, relative to Channel 1, and Archive Super Bonuses, so you know how this show works. I will do so at length on the blogspot version of this episode, where the blog format is more accommodating of lengthiness. But I will give you a brief overview here: Channel 1: This is “the show proper”. These are “the actual episodes”. On average, 10 fresh episodes a year (with reruns to fill in the blanks). Other than extraordinary circumstances, they follow a standard “enhanced mixtape” format: a short, semi-standard intro, and standard housekeeping outro bookending a winding, twisting journey through sound. We have had quite the spate of non-standard “Channel 1” Episodes of late though, so for the newcomers, I wanted to stress what “normal” looks like. We don't anticipate having anything else non-standard for several months moving forward. Channel F: This is my side-outlet for bonuses, betas, extras. It can be virtually anything. And additional mixtape music block (like today), but has been all sorts of things. We even had one that was an exposition on a certain episode's outro. Anything that doesn't fit in Channel 1, but that I still want to have full attention (podcast feed, blog, social media, Archive.org, etc) becomes a Channel F “F-isode”. Super Bonuses: These are for the times where I have something that I felt was worth producing, and felt was worth putting out there, but did not want to clog up the podcast feed, or the blog, or social media with. Generally, it takes the form of remixes and twists on existing content. Since they only come out on Archive, and not anywhere else, and since they're not really advertised, this creates a nice “underground” quality to them. I usually drop hints inside Episodes and F-isodes if there are any Super Bonuses planned. But beyond that, a person just needs to know to be on the lookout. They will release even less consistently than F-isodes, but will also tend to be in bursts around certain episodes that are rich for alternate twists on their content. See the blogspot version of this episode if you'd like to know more about these. Link below. Meanwhile, our next all-new episode is planned for August, though I do have some really great reruns lined up for the months between. Even those will still constitute much more of a “return to normalcy” for the show than what our past several months of fresh content offers, so a great chance to “get to know us” I hope you will enjoy! We also have a secondary podcast feed which is dedicated entirely to reruns, which will feature reruns different than the ones on the main feed, if you wish to explore even more Nerd Noise Radio history. It can be found on your podcatcher of choice by the name “Nerd Noise Radio Reruns”. Cheers! SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 372, “Never Discount the Impact of Your Talents,” Kim discusses the talents each of us have been given and our accountability to use them all to the glory of the Lord. In today's lesson, Kim uses the focal text, as well as other scriptures, to remind listeners that ALL talents are important and each of our talents should be dedicated to the Lord. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 34:10-13, and with 11-13 as the focal verses: 11 They hired carpenters and builders, who purchased finished stone for the walls and timber for the rafters and beams. They restored what earlier kings of Judah had allowed to fall into ruin. 12 The workers served faithfully under the leadership of Jahath and Obadiah, Levites of the Merarite clan, and Zechariah and Meshullam, Levites of the Kohathite clan. Other Levites, all of whom were skilled musicians, 13 were put in charge of the laborers of the various trades. Still others assisted as secretaries, officials, and gatekeepers. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: Which talent have you been neglecting or do you need to dedicate to the Lord? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 Matthew 25:14-30 23 Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Lastly: in case anyone is wondering what on earth is happening in the outro: I figured since it would be backwards, and nobody would ever hear it forward unless they either took the initiative to reverse the file themselves, or else find the [quote] "UNBACKED" version on Archive.org, they'd never know what on earth was being said, I decided to forego the standard outro script, and just go nuts. I read a chocolate chip cookie recipe I found online on the spot, and included snippets from every previous episode blooper reel in show history to that point as well as various other sound clips, such as slow-mo vids of my kids, and fresh snippets provided by my brother-in-law Brian Peterson. Anyway, that's what's happening in the outro. I wanted it to be as preposterous and baffling and chaotic as possible! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Original Show Notes (modified to show track names on 04/20/2026): ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Today's broadcast is C1E52 for Wayback Wednesday, April 1st, 2020. It's April 1st, dear listeners, and we haven't had a retrospective in AGES! In such dark, uncertain days as we face today, it's extra important to have a look back at brighter, clearer, saner days as a reminder that as the wheel of time continues to churn, we will inexorably find our way back. So, sit back and relax as we travel back through 2hrs 25min, and 56 sec of Nerd Noise History and Nostalgia on a program we're calling “Backtracks”. SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 371, “When Did You Begin to Seek God?” Kim discusses the timeline of young King Josiah's spiritual life and growth. As we examine the early years of the king's reign, Kim challenges listeners to reflect on their own spiritual timelines. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 34:1-9, and with 3 as the focal verse: During the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, Josiah began to seek the God of his ancestor David. Then in the twelfth year he began to purify Judah and Jerusalem, destroying all the pagan shrines, the Asherah poles, and the carved idols and cast images. SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 370, “We Can't Determine What Another Imitates,” Kim discusses the importance of choosing our actions and attitudes wisely. Others are watching our lives and may be imitating our attitudes and actions. If that is so, what would you want them to imitate, and what would you prefer they ignore? In today's story, King Amon followed the example of his father, King Manasseh, in every area, except for the one that counted most — humbling himself before the Lord. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 21:19-26 and 2 Chronicles 33:21-25 , and with 2 Kings 21:21-22 and 2 Chronicles 33:22-23 as the focal verses: 21 He followed the example of his father, worshiping the same idols his father had worshiped. 22 He abandoned the Lord, the God of his ancestors, and he refused to follow the Lord's ways. 22 He did what was evil in the Lord's sight, just as his father, Manasseh, had done. He worshiped and sacrificed to all the idols his father had made. 23 But unlike his father, he did not humble himself before the Lord. Instead, Amon sinned even more. Ever feel confident you're following the rules… only to find out the rules changed? In this episode of Tank Talk, Shannon and Haley talk about one of the most common compliance pitfalls in environmental operations: regulations evolving quietly in the background while day-to-day operations keep moving. Just like driving down a familiar road where the speed limit suddenly changed, facilities can unknowingly fall out of compliance when regulations are updated after a plan, permit, or audit was completed. We're seeing this happen more and more in air and water regulations, where updates can occur on unpredictable timelines. A report that confirmed compliance a few years ago may no longer reflect the current regulatory landscape. So how do operators avoid getting blindsided? Shannon shares seven practical strategies that facility managers and environmental professionals can use to stay ahead of regulatory changes. The conversation also covers what happens when regulations change, how transition periods typically work, and what to do if you discover you're already past a compliance deadline. If you manage fuel facilities, environmental programs, or regulatory plans, this episode offers practical steps to help ensure your compliance program doesn't quietly expire in the background. We've included a resource list with helpful agency webpages, industry groups, and notification lists that can help you stay informed when regulations change. Remember: compliance is a point in time — and it can change without warning.Download the guide: 7 Ways To Stay Ahead of Regulatory Changes — Integrity EnvironmentalSupport the showintro/outro created with GarageBand
SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 369, “For All Who Think They Are Too Far Gone,” Kim discusses King Manasseh and the miraculous turn his life took. He went from leading others down one of the darkest paths imaginable to humbly surrendering to the Lord. If Manasseh, with his massive list of sinful behavior, could hear the Lord speak and turn to Him, you are not too far gone. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 33:1-20, and with 12-13 as the focal verses: 12 But while in deep distress, Manasseh sought the Lord his God and sincerely humbled himself before the God of his ancestors. 13 And when he prayed, the Lord listened to him and was moved by his request. So the Lord brought Manasseh back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh finally realized that the Lord alone is God! SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 368, “Getting More Is Not Always a Good Thing,” Kim discusses the deeply dark period of time in the Southern Kingdom of Judah during the reign of King Manasseh. To go from the God-honoring reign of Hezekiah to the long, evil reign of his son Manasseh must have been a bit of cultural whiplash. Sadly, the reforms Hezekiah had made did not withstand his son's persistently idol-focused agenda. And yet, there are millions of Christ-followers across our world today living under similar or even darker spiritual conditions. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 21:1-18, and with 9 as the focal verse: 9 But the people refused to listen, and Manasseh led them to do even more evil than the pagan nations that the Lord had destroyed when the people of Israel entered the land. SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 367, “You Can Bid on This Showcase,” Kim discusses the dangers of mistaken objects and people as our property instead of as ours to steward for the Lord. In today's scriptures, King Hezekiah looked as though he were the host of the ancient version of the game show “The Price Is Right.” He had moved from being grateful for all the Lord had placed in his path to acting as though he were the owner. As obvious as it is to see that Hezekiah had lost track of who was in charge, it can not be as easy to see the same behaviors in ourselves. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 32:24-33 and 2 Kings 20:12-21, and with 2 Chronicles 32:31 as the focal verse: 31 However, when ambassadors arrived from Babylon to ask about the remarkable events that had taken place in the land, God withdrew from Hezekiah in order to test him and to see what was really in his heart. SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 366, “Proper Response to a Move of God,” Kim discusses the multiple movements of God that King Hezekiah experienced and how we can learn from his response. During the first part of his reign, Hezekiah saw God move in his people and on their behalf, and Hezekiah consistently pointed the people to God and gave him glory. Yet, sadly, as time went on, instead of using what the Lord was doing as opportunities to point to the greatness of God, Hezekiah became proud. This story, as well as next week's, should challenge each of us to be intentional about remembering where the glory goes. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 32:24-26, with 25 as the focal verse: 24 About that time Hezekiah became deathly ill. He prayed to the Lord, who healed him and gave him a miraculous sign. 25 But Hezekiah did not respond appropriately to the kindness shown him, and he became proud. So the Lord's anger came against him and against Judah and Jerusalem. 26 Then Hezekiah humbled himself and repented of his pride, as did the people of Jerusalem. So the Lord's anger did not fall on them during Hezekiah's lifetime. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: When have you received a move of God (I.e., obvious answer to prayer, witnessed a miracle)? ROGÉRIO: Você tá falando do Fediverso? DAMNY: Exato. O Fediverso. Tenho me dedicado a estudar redes descentralizadas, governança da internet e soberania digital. DAMNY: Segundo: a moderação é comunitária. Quem guarda meus dados? DAMNY: Sobre isso falará Thiago Skarnio, o único latino-americano no conselho do FediForum, o maior evento mundial dedicado a pensar e melhorar o Fediverso. DAMNY: Nesse contexto, o Rafael convida a gente a refletir. ROGÉRIO: O projeto do Fediverso do Ibram continua crescendo. SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 365, “Time Truly Is in God's Hands,” Kim discusses the request of King Hezekiah for more time. Hezekiah was approached by the prophet Isaiah and told he was going to die and to get his affairs in order. Hezekiah did not panic but immediately turned to the Lord and poured out his pain and preference. The Lord chose to provide a miracle of more time, but also a miracle of growth in Hezekiah, who stated, “This anguish was good for me.” The Lord doesn't always answer our request for more time in the way we think He should, but we can be comforted knowing time is still in His control, and He can help us make the most of every moment given. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 20:1-11, with 2-3 as the focal verses: 2 When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3 “Remember, O Lord, how I have always been faithful to you and have served you single-mindedly, always doing what pleases you.” Then he broke down and wept bitterly. This week's episode is about the artisanship and business of podcast editing with veteran editor Bryan Entzminger. Bryan shares how he began podcasting in 2014, inspired by John Lee Dumas' formulaic approach to Entrepreneurs On Fire and how that era of entrepreneurship-focused shows shaped early podcasting. We unpack why many podcasts have naturally “run their course” after five or six years, how the pandemic boom has cooled, and why Bryan has deliberately avoided rebuilding a client roster too concentrated on a few shows. On the technical side, Bryan walks through his journey from GarageBand to Twisted Wave and finally to Hindenburg, which he still considers the most intuitive for voice-first production and detailed technical edits. He contrasts this with transcript-based tools like Descript, explaining why automated “de-umming” often destroys pacing, breath, and emotion, and still requires hours of cleanup by a human editor.Bryan also shares favorite repair tools (like DX Revive, Supertone Clear, and iZotope), his go-to MP3 specs and -16 LUFS target, and thoughts on Zoom audio, video podcast distribution via RSS, and experiments with platforms like Fountain, TrueFans, and his own testbed show, Bad Podcast Pitches. Please sign up for the SOUNDING OFF Newsletter. In this episode of Tank Talk, we sit down with Senior Environmental Consultant Leslie Pearson for a first-person account of the Exxon Valdez oil spill and how it reshaped spill prevention and response in Alaska and across the nation. Leslie shares her firsthand experience working on the response in 1989, from documenting shoreline impacts in Seward to navigating the early days of incident command and emergency operations. She reflects on the gaps in preparedness that were exposed, the challenges of working in remote environments, and what it was like to learn on the fly during one of the largest environmental disasters in U.S. history. The conversation explores how the spill led to the creation of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA 90), major revisions to SPCC and Facility Response Plan requirements, and Alaska's decision to implement some of the strictest spill prevention regulations in the country under 18 AAC 75. With decades of experience as both a regulator and consultant, Leslie explains why these regulations are more than paperwork - they are institutional memory designed to prevent history from repeating itself. This episode offers valuable perspective for environmental professionals, facility operators, and anyone working in spill prevention, preparedness, and compliance. SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 364, “Crying Out in Prayer to God,” Kim discusses the incident in 2 Chronicles 32:20 when King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah cried out to the Lord on behalf of the people of Judah. We all encounter times of extreme danger, pain, and concern, when a guttural cry is the only kind of prayer we can utter. Kim shares multiple scriptures she prays in times of crisis. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 32:1-23, with 20-21 as the focal verses: 20 Then King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz cried out in prayer to God in heaven. 21 And the Lord sent an angel who destroyed the Assyrian army with all its commanders and officers. So Sennacherib was forced to return home in disgrace to his own land. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons killed him there with a sword. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: When you truly cry out to the Lord, what scriptures are your default? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. (Psalm 139:23-24) 26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don't know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will. (Romans 8:26-27) 11 For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. (Psalm 91:11) 7 Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 8 Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me—now let me rejoice. 9 Don't keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me….12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you….17 The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God. (Psalm 51:7-10, 12, 17) 14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14) 7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7) 28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. The Duck! City was smokin' the day after the State of the Union crashed and burned, reaching a high of 72 degrees — which was 18 degrees above average. It's nice to be above average in something. But still, damn. In any event, the roses are budding and so is everything else. The primates who call this desert home may view with alarm the federal knuckles being dragged into the Colorado River Compact, which remains an insoluable dilemma to its signatories and will join the long list of issues about which His Excremency King Piggy the Sticky-Fingered knows nothing and cares even less. And Your Humble Narrator, who ordinarily yearns to toddle off to someplace toasty about this time of year, finds himself in the awkward position of grumbling about beautiful weather. At home. SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 363, “Idols I Need to Smash,” Kim discusses how when someone meets with the Lord, they cannot remain the same. In today's primary text, the people of Judah and some from Israel had celebrated the Passover for the first time in their lifetimes. Immediately, they smashed multiple different idols. When the prophet Isaiah saw the Lord, he immediately saw how sinful he and the people were, and the Lord graciously forgave and then commissioned him to speak on His behalf. We can't meet with the Lord and leave unchanged. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 31:1-21, with 1 as the focal verse: 1 When the festival ended, the Israelites who attended went to all the towns of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh, and they smashed all the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherah poles, and removed the pagan shrines and altars. After this, the Israelites returned to their own towns and homes. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: Prayerfully identify any idols you need to smash immediately. When I listened to the recording, I went back to sit with my mother in nature in the village. The rhythm was beating her favourite song (Rewşenê) alongside '"Tu Paine", and it was reciting memories that will not be remembered unless passing through a genocide. It is inspiring how 14,000 kilometres of distance can vibrate the same feelings that I had in my childhood. It is interesting how a sound can describe nature, culture, the spiritual, and a divine power that music has and how it travels with the wind to gather with other communities and add their cultural sounds. The song Rewşen has been dug into my memory and it connects me to my land whenever I hear something similar. The song is a traditional song about love stories where lovers need to be married at the end. For this recording, I played the oldest instrument among Yazidi people called Tembûr. It is a collection of wood, strings, and animal veins alongside human ability to bring sound to it. Tembûr is used in every house among the Yazidi community and is accompanied with singers to preserve thousands of stories and oral traditions. I used a GarageBand program and a simple mic to record the sound of Tembûr and my voice. I sang my mother's favourite song as an act to reveal what I felt while listening to the song. I added some notes to reveal the pain of the memory and identities who are under danger all the time. These memories stole me to them and let me relax in nature again.I did some research about Malampa's culture and environment, the origins of people who are close to nature and oceans, and some research about Fiji too which is near to Vanuatu and I may plan for a visit to discover the culture and music instruments there. This recording was originally broadcast in 1963, in the first year of Taiwan's first terrestrial TV station, the Taiwan Broadcasting Company. "Look me in the eye" takes a short sequence of a mountain folk song sung by a women's chorus, from the original 30-minute recording. I layered sound in GarageBand, selecting and editing archival material, contemporary field recordings, overheard dialogue and digital loops, to build aural glimpses of cultural, temporal, and geographic landscapes. By positioning the mountain folk song in dialogue with a recording of a metro train in a Tokyo tunnel, I form a sonic relationship between the mountain above, the underground below, and the distant flatland of my Newhaven studio from which the piece is composed. The folk song functions as both voice and landscape, carrying the acoustic imprint of elevation and openness (shaped by geography rather than infrastructure), of a community embedded in place, where sound travels across valley and mountain, retaining its sense of distance and air, pointing toward cultural memory rooted in the land. In contrast, the Tokyo metro recording introduces a dense, enclosed soundscape. The arrival and departure of a train, with its mechanical rhythm and reverberant tunnel, defines movement, efficiency, and compression. This sound carries additional historical weight: Japan occupied Taiwan from 1895 until the end of the Second World War, leaving lasting marks on its infrastructure, education, and cultural systems. The presence of contemporary Japanese urban sound alongside Taiwanese traditional song resonates not only as a meeting of modern and pre-modern space, but as an echo of shared, asymmetrical history. As sound worlds overlap, they form a layered sonic landscape. The intermittent warmth and discomfort of a questioning voice gets lost beneath the noise of a train, receding and submerged beneath the city. This shifting balance reflects a complex negotiation between tradition, modernisation, and historical memory, echoing the cultural tensions explored by post-war experimental art movements and ideas of Modernism.Yet, a third landscape underlies "Look me in the eye": the lands of the Western world, from which I compose and listen. Positioned beyond both mountain and subway, I observe, engaging with unfamiliar environments through recordings, digital tools, and historical distance. This perspective acknowledges the role of translation, power, and interpretation."Look me in the eye" presents landscape as something heard rather than seen. By moving between mountain, underground, and flatland perspectives, the piece reflects on how sound carries history, place, and identity across time, distance, and cultural boundaries. The folk song becomes less a fixed artifact and more a mutable terrain, shaped by time, technology, and reinterpretation.Regional music of the Republic of China (Taiwan) reimagined by Rachael Adams.———Part of the project A Century of Sounds, reimagining 100 sounds covering 100 years from the collections of the Pitt Rivers Museum at the University of Oxford. I listened to the piece and researched any historical links between Plymouth, my home town and Sarawak, were the original recording by Leslie Bennet was made. It turns out there were three white "Rajahs" of Sarawak and they were members of the Brooke dynasty: James Brooke, who founded the rule in 1841; his nephew Charles Brooke, who succeeded him; and Charles' son, Charles Vyner Brooke. Although not from Plymouth, all three of the “Rajahs of Sarawak” are buried in the small churchyard of St Leonard's at Sheepstor on Dartmoor, just outside of Plymouth. James Brooke did at one time set sail from Plymouth in 1838, arriving at Sarawak the following year. The name for Sarawak means the land of the hornbill. This piece is an ode to this journey. I listened to the recording of the Sapeh and learnt the rough pentatonic scale used. I isolated a few segments and tried them on guitar to get the ideas flowing. The recording of the Sapeh is sampled and utilise throughout the piece. At times I have used it to double the bass line or to give a new melody line or rhythm. The main “nautical” melody is built upon a four bar segment of the original recording. The clicks and resonance of the instrument are also used to give some ambience and texture. I have used acoustic guitars, hand drums, mandolin, electric guitars, sequenced midi instruments and drums using GarageBand. I also used open source recordings of seagulls in Plymouth and Hornbills in Sarawak.Sapeh (three-stringed boat lute) reimagined by Daniel Chudley - Le Corre.———Part of the project A Century of Sounds, reimagining 100 sounds covering 100 years from the collections of the Pitt Rivers Museum at the University of Oxford. With having a drop taken and/or a mind wandering being common along both branches of the family tree it behooves a fella from time to time to test-drive what remains of his wits, if any. It struck me recently that for perfectly sound (har de har har) reasons I hadn't done an episode of Radio Free Dogpatch since February 2025. But times pass and things change and people clearly aren't getting any smarter, especially me. So here we are so, dusting off what few of the mad skills I possessed only in theory not so very long ago and taking them for a spin around the old podcasting studio to see what falls off. For openers, the 24-inch LG display that now supplements the 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro in my main office is no longer attached to the MacBook Pro in the studio, which is 10 years older and an inch smaller, displaywise, and I cannot recommend such a tiny stage for audio theater as senescence staggers forward, trying to remember where it left its spectacles (atop its head). Auphonic is no longer a strictly free app, which failed to astonish me in this, the New Gilded Age, so creator and audience must deal with what they call a "Jingle" fore and aft. Jingle my bollocks, boys ... I'll be looking for some other way to give me chin music a tuneup before I next set it out on its street corner to busk for nothing. Finally, Libsyn has gotten a makeover as well, but if you're reading this you can be sure that I managed to negotiate their tricksy little maze. An old ratoncito can still cut the cheese. Find the cheese! I meant find the cheese! Where the hell are my glasses? Oh ... never mind. Could this be the start of something big? Probably not. Mostly I wanted to see if I could still get 'er done. Also, I was bored. Giving the old brain-box a wee scrape and a splash of paint is a fine way to stay out of the wind, which is full of allergens and other evil tidings. • Technical notes: RFD uses the Ethos mic from Earthworks Audio; Audio-Technica ATH-M50X headphones; Zoom H5 Handy Recorder; Rogue Amoeba's Audio Hijack; Apple's GarageBand, and Auphonic for a wash and brushup. Sound byte from Mike Judge's "Idiocracy" lifted from YouTube. Booing crowd, kicked-in door, and Celtic tune from Freesound. "Out of Step," which you've heard here before, comes from Audio Hero via Zapsplat. Special guest appearance from Miss Mia Sopaipilla, who despite a screechy meow is healthy as a horse as she approaches her 19th (!) birthday.
SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 362, “Please Give Us One Heart to Obey,” Kim discusses the latest invitation King Hezekiah sent out to call, not only the people of the Southern Kingdom, but also anyone left in the Northern Kingdom to come home and worship the Lord. Many laughed at the invitation, but some humbled themselves and came. For those who answered the invitation, the Lord gave “them all one heart to obey” their leaders, who were obeying the Lord. How would our world be changed today if Christ-followers had one heart to obey the Lord? Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 30:1-27, with 12 as the focal verse: 12 At the same time, God's hand was on the people in the land of Judah, giving them all one heart to obey the orders of the king and his officials, who were following the word of the Lord. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: Please pray with me for you and all in your circle to have one heart to obey the Lord. EDITOR'S NOTE: Due to multiple technical difficulties, Kim had to perform multiple edits on the recorded material. If a glitch remains, please accept her sincerest apologies. SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 361, “Restored to Service,” Kim discusses the dedication of the Temple as described in 2 Chronicles 7 and the path that led to the rededication in 2 Chronicles 29. God knew the people would not stay 100% on fire for him and he gave Solomon a restoration plan from the beginning: 14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land (2 Chronicles 7:14). About 250 years later, spiritual darkness has invaded the land and King Hezekiah leads the people in the restoration process, including purifying and rededicating the temple. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 29:18-36, with 28-29 and 35b-36 as the focal verses: 28 The entire assembly worshiped the Lord as the singers sang and the trumpets blew, until all the burnt offerings were finished. 29 Then the king and everyone with him bowed down in worship. So the Temple of the Lord was restored to service. 36 And Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced because of what God had done for the people, for everything had been accomplished so quickly. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: For Christ-followers, the “temple of the Holy Spirit” is contained within our bodies. Is there anything you need to do today to “restore” your body to wholehearted service for the Lord? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 2 Chronicles 7:1-22 - 12 Then one night the Lord appeared to Solomon and said, “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this Temple as the place for making sacrifices. 13 At times I might shut up the heavens so that no rain falls, or command grasshoppers to devour your crops, or send plagues among you. 14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 15 My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place. 16 For I have chosen this Temple and set it apart to be holy—a place where my name will be honored forever. I will always watch over it, for it is dear to my heart. 19 Don't you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. SHOW NOTES In Podcast Episode 360, “When You Are Really Serious about Doing Right,” Kim discusses the measures you may want to take if you want to commit to the Lord stick. King Hezekiah walked into an absolute mess, and he set out to right the proverbial ship. He wanted to renew the people side of the covenant with the Lord. Kim also looks at when Joshua challenged the Israelites' commitment to the Lord and renewed their commitment to the Lord. If they had truly followed through on those commitments from generation to generation, Hezekiah would not have inherited the mess he did. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 29:10-17 with 10 as the focal verse: 10 But now I will make a covenant with the Lord, the God of Israel, so that his fierce anger will turn away from us. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: Might today be the day you recommit one or more areas of your life to the Lord? 2026 Show Notes Adendum: This was the very first "official episode" of Ch 2 - approx 9 months after Hugues and I's "fun one-off", which at the time had no strings attached! PRODUCTION CAVEATS: Just like the 2019 one-off, this was recorded using an M-Audio MobilePre XLR-to-USB audio interface and AudioTechnica AT2020 condenser mic, and was recorded down in a very echoey basement room. Also, I hadn't [yet] started editing out the "ums" yet. However, unlike the 2019 one-off, I had moved onto Linux by this point, so it was produced in a mix of Audacity and Ardour, rather than in GarageBand and was produced on a 2017 Dell Latitude 7480 laptop (docked to an external monitor, KBM, and sound system) rather than on a 2014 Mac Mini. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------Original 2020 Show Notes------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's the Dawning of a new Era!
