Again email follow@bestcelticmusic Last month, I led my Celtic Invasion of County Wexford. We visited the National 1798 Irish Rebellion Museum. I learned a lot. In the summer of 1798, in the town of Enniscorthy, a spark was lit that echoed across the centuries. Inspired by the ideals of liberty and self - determination that fueled the American and French Revolutions, ordinary Irish men and women rose up against British rule—hoping to shape a freer, more equal Ireland. The United Irishmen, a movement of Protestants and Catholics alike, dreamed of unity. But their rebellion was met with brutal force. The most haunting chapter came to a head on Vinegar Hill, where rebels made their last stand. Though the 1798 Rebellion was crushed, the spirit behind it lived on. It became a quiet current beneath Irish history, resurfacing again in 1916 during the Easter Rising—and carrying through to modern Ireland. Today's episode features songs and tunes inspired by the 1798 rebellion. These are songs of hope, defiance, heartbreak, and memory. This episode is not about blame. They're about telling the stories of those who dared to dream of freedom. GET AN IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC PODCAST ALBUM PIN Want to wear your love of Celtic music?

When you talk about iconic Australian singer-songwriters, it doesn't take long before Richard Clapton's name comes up. For over five decades, Richard has been one of Australia's true rock poets — the kind of artist whose songs become part of people's lives, the soundtrack to long road trips, beach holidays, and nostalgic nights on the back deck with a cold beer in hand.Born on Sydney's north shore, Richard grew up like a lot of kids — dreaming of music that took him beyond suburbia. In the late 60s and early 70s, Richard packed up and headed for Europe, guitar slung over his shoulder, busking in the streets and absorbing the counterculture that was blooming across the continent. When he returned, Richard brought with him a suitcase full of songs and stories that reflected not just his travels but the changing face of Australia itself. In '73, he released his debut single Last Train to Marseilles. But it was his '75 album Girls on the Avenue that really made people sit up and listen. The title track turned Richard Clapton into a household name almost overnight.Through the mid-to-late '70s, Richard released a string of albums that are now regarded as cornerstones of classic Australian rock music. Richard carved out a loyal audience that followed him from smoky inner-city pubs to big festival stages. His songs were — and still are — snapshots of the Australian psyche: romantic but real, hopeful but tinged with a knowing sadness. But Richard didn't just write for himself. He became a sort of elder statesman for the Aussie rock scene, helping to mentor up-and-coming acts that would soon become legends themselves. Bands like INXS, Cold Chisel, and Mental As Anything all found a kindred spirit in Richard, whose lyrics and attitude proved you could write songs about Australian life that were poetic, gritty, and universal all at once. He even produced INXS's second album, helping shape the band's early sound before they broke big internationally. If you've ever seen Richard Clapton live, you'll know that he's the real deal. His voice — warm, slightly weathered, and instantly recognisable — carries the weight of decades on the road and in the studio. He has that easy rapport with an audience that only comes from years of standing on a stage, guitar in hand, telling stories through song. For many Australians, his gigs are like a reunion with an old friend — everyone singing along to Girls on the Avenue or swaying to Deep Water as if no time has passed at all. What makes Clapton's story so compelling is that he never really chased fame for fame's sake. He's always seemed more interested in writing the next great song than chasing trends. And yet, he's ended up as one of the true pillars of Australian rock, a fact recognised when he was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1999.Today, well into his seventies, Richard Clapton is still out there doing what he loves most — writing songs, recording new music, and hitting the road to play to crowds who still know every word. In recent years, he's released new albums like Harlequin Nights and Music Is Love (1966–1970), a tribute to the songs and artists that shaped him, from Bob Dylan to Neil Young. His autobiography, The Best Years of Our Lives, published in 2015, pulls back the curtain on decades of wild gigs, unforgettable characters, and the hard-won wisdom that comes from surviving the ups and downs of the music industry. And yet, for all the tours, albums, and accolades, it's the songs that matter most. Ask any fan what Richard Clapton means to them, and you'll likely hear a story about summer days driving up the coast or seeing him live for the first time.In an industry that's constantly changing, Richard Clapton stands as a reminder that great music is timeless. Singer-songwriter, rock poet, mentor, and living legend Richard Clapton joins us here to share his stoires. Check the website for gigs near you.
Episode 316 of History in Five Songs with Martin Popoff takes a cheeky sideways swipe at the groove: Martin lines up Deep Purple, Queen, The Jam, Boomtown Rats, and The Clash, drops the needle on their “too‑funky‑for‑their‑own‑good” moments, and shows how a fatback beat can splinter line‑ups, sideline guitars, and tank whole careers. If you're curious why Richie Blackmore bolted, how Freddie's dance‑floor obsession blindsided Brian May, or where Paul Weller's mojo wandered, cue this episode and hear Martin's vinyl‑crackling verdict on bands ruined by funk. 1. Deep Purple – “You Can't Do It Right”2. Queen – “Back Chat” 3. The Jam – “Precious” 4. The Boomtown Rats – “Mood Mambo” 5. The Clash – “Ivan Meets G.I. Joe” Learn more about your ad choices. This week, a special road trip episode featuring Celtic-American Roots music “super group” RUNA recorded live at the 2024 Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield Kansas, a four day acoustic music marathon and arts & crafts fair held every September in Winfield, Kansas. The annual Walnut Valley Festival, now in it's 53rd season, is one of the oldest and most respected acoustic music festivals in the world. Held at the Winfield, Kansas fairgrounds, more than 30 musical acts will perform on four separate stages, presenting over 200 hours of live music. Also, there is a dedicated contest stage where contestants vie for national and international championships in Finger Style Guitar, Flat Pick Guitar, Bluegrass Banjo, Old Time Fiddle, Mandolin, Mountain Dulcimer, Hammered Dulcimer, and Autoharp. There is a juried arts and crafts fair, exhibits by renowned instrument makers and music shops, family activities, a bevy of food vendors, a farmer's market and even a pub! An unusual aspect of Walnut Valley is its campground tradition. Campsites are not reserved and campers line up to claim a choice campsite during the "Land Rush.” Walnut Valley Festival goers often bring their own musical instruments to participate in the sometimes all night campground jam sessions. Bands like Old Sound, that began as "Jam Bands" in the campgrounds, have even been invited to perform at the festival. Celebrating fourteen years together as a band, Celtic-American Roots music “super group” RUNA continues to push the boundaries of Irish folk music into the Americana and roots music formats. Interweaving the haunting melodies and exuberant tunes of Ireland and Scotland with the lush harmonies and intoxicating rhythms of jazz, bluegrass, flamenco and blues, they offer a thrilling and redefining take on traditional music. Seeking to preserve and continue a traditional culture in a modern age, RUNA creates the backbone of its signature roots sound from the musical and geographical diversity of its individually established band members. Their strive for excellence and creativity blazes a trail for the future of folk music, earning them the reputation as one of the most innovative Irish folk groups of this generation. RUNA consists of vocalist Shannon Lambert-Ryan of Philadelphia, Dublin-born guitarist, Fionán de Barra, acclaimed drummer Cheryl Prashker (Full Frontal Folk, Jonathan Edwards), fiddler Jake James of New York, and three-time Canadian fiddle champion Tom Fitzgerald, who also plays mandolin. - https://runamusic.com/about In this week's “From the Vault” segment, OHR producer Jeff Glover offers an archival recording of Ozark original Mike McGhee performing the Classic Child ballad “Barbara Allen,” from the Ozark Folk Center State Park archives. In this week's guest host segment, renowned traditional folk musician, writer, and step dancer Aubrey Atwater profiles the legendary Ozark song catcher, Mary Celestia Parler.

Madrai deliver a high-energy hit of lush pop-rock, blending sharp hooks, rich vocal harmonies, and sweeping arrangements that punch hard and linger longer. Hailing from Northern Ireland, the four-piece have carved a space of their own, echoing the emotional pull of Mk.Gee and John Mayer, the raw groove of Bricknasty, and the arena-ready fire of Kings of Leon and Inhaler. Their debut single “Leaving on My Own” (produced by Jonny Woods of Wynona Bleach) dropped in July 2024 and didn't just turn heads—it kicked down the door. Early acclaim poured in landing them a sold-out debut show at Belfast's Ulster Sports Club and a nomination for Single of the Year at the Northern Ireland Music Prize. August 2024 saw Madrai take the top prize at the Rockshore Battle of the Bands, outshining 24 acts before headlining Belfast's iconic Empire Music Hall for the SONI Christmas Special. With their debut EP “What I'm Doing This For” wrapped and ready, and a new single coming summer 2025, Madrai are building something big—songs for the highs, the heartbreaks, and every late-night drive in between.

TALK TO ME, TEXT ITThe digital world continues to shock and surprise us as technology evolves faster than we can comprehend. Today we dive into three remarkable stories that showcase both the wonder and concern surrounding artificial intelligence and online commerce. What would you do if hundreds of Amazon packages suddenly appeared at your doorstep—packages you never ordered? A California woman lived this nightmare when a Chinese seller listed her home as their return address. For over a year, packages containing ill-fitting car seat covers piled chest-high in her driveway, preventing her from parking her car. Despite multiple complaints, Amazon initially offered little help, even suggesting she was responsible for handling the unwanted deliveries herself. Only after media attention did the company finally step in to resolve the situation. This cautionary tale highlights the real-world consequences when online systems fail.Meanwhile, the music world faces its own technological disruption. A supposedly new rock band called "The Velvet Sundown" amassed over a million monthly listeners on Spotify with their 60s-inspired sound. Their hit song even topped Spotify's viral charts—but there was just one problem: neither the band nor its members actually exist. Everything, from the musicians to the music itself, was entirely AI-generated. Fans eventually noticed oddities in the promotional images, including unnaturally smooth skin textures and anatomically incorrect hands. This revelation raises profound questions about authenticity in creative arts and what constitutes "real" music in an AI-saturated future. We also discuss a cringe-worthy job rejection email where the employer accidentally included the AI prompt instructions before the actual message. This embarrassing oversight reveals how companies increasingly rely on automation for communication without proper human oversight. The question becomes: as AI continues to permeate our daily lives, where do we draw the line between helpful automation and lost human connection? What other aspects of our world are being quietly transformed by algorithms? Subscribe now and join the conversation about navigating our increasingly AI-influenced reality.Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREE Thanks for listening! Today, we're diving into the unrelenting collapse of hair metal empire. A music scene that crashed harder than Vince Neil's drunk driving accident killed Razzle Dingley. Sure, bands like Def Leppard, Motley Crue, and Poison are still out on the road, playing for nostalgic crowds of people who yearn to hear those power chords. But for every one of those groups that are still selling merch and playing gigs, there are several who were wiped off the board in the early 90s by Seattle's flannel fury. Grunge was a raw, authentic sound and anti-establishment ethos that rejected hair metal's polished production, spandex, and power ballads. But we still love that music about girls and having a good time. This week, a special road trip episode. For the first time, Ozark Highlands Radio visits the legendary Walnut Valley Festival, a four day acoustic music marathon and arts & crafts fair held every September in Winfield, Kansas. Host Dave Smith and OHR producer Jeff Glover sample the menagerie of musical acts we recorded at this incredible event. Ozark Highlands Radio was invited to the 52nd annual Walnut Valley Festival. It was an unforgettable experience and a total success for us, having been able to record fifteen musical acts including: Nathan McEuen; Sally & the Hurts; RUNA; Special Consensus; Chris Jones & the Night Drivers; John McCutcheon; The Rick Faris Band;; Socks in the Frying Pan; Pixie & the Partygrass Boys; A.J. Lee & Blue Summit; Dave Stamey; Old Sound; Rob Ickes & Trey Hensley; Shane Hennessy; and Bing Futch. We also managed to capture the 2024 Championship Finger Style Guitarists performance and the National Mountain Dulcimer Championship.
Bands like Seven Mary Three couldn't have existed any other time but in the 90s. Grunge was king, guitars were heavy, and bands were full of angst. This formula served them well when "Cumbersome" landed at #1 on the rock charts, but the label didn't get behind much else and despite the band carrying on for a decade playing to a rabid fan base, they never had another hit (or much respect). Lead singer Jason Ross joins us this week to discuss the journey, including his ongoing career in the business side of music and why the band aren't likely to get back together. The good news is their independently released debut album Churn from '94 has just been remastered and re-released on vinyl for the first time. I think you'll be surprised by what a fun, music-loving guy Jason is. Enjoy! www.7m3.com www.patreon.com/c/thehustlepod

So Strickland recorded a solo ep with Doug vacationing in New Jersey. And he talked for 50 minutes? Without ranting on Trump ONCE?? Wow, that's impressive. I shouldn't say that, since I didn't listen to the whole thing. I mean, if he talks about interesting shit for 50 minutes all by himself, I guess that's impressive, but am I expected to listen to ALL THAT?? Hell no.
