I was a little down-and-out post-new Moderna vax, but thanks to Laraine, I swiftly forgot all about it. She took us through her early childhood, finding her place with the funny. From neighborhood street plays, and school theatre with classmate Paul Reubens, to becoming a founding member of The Groundlings with her sister, Tracy Newman, to Lorne Michaels and Lily Tomlin discovering her for a special which then led to Saturday Night Live. Arriving in New York to some trauma, the SNL experience, characters that transitioned, writers, castmates, running with Gilda, feeling left out with Garrett, drugs, American Hot Wax, Stardust Memories with Woody, a Beatle, the Stones, better drugs, 5 years later, always working, voicework becoming the thing. They discuss his early background and his involvement with the Groundlings Comedy troupe. They then discuss the creation of the Pee Wee Herman character and Phil Hartman's involvement with its development. They talk about how the character went on to a hit stage show in Los Angeles. They then talk about his cult hit movie “Pee Wee's Big Adventure” and the involvement of director Tim Burton and composer Danny Elfman. The guys then discuss creation and success of “Pee Wee's Playhouse”. They conclude by discussing his legacy as well as his unfortunate arrest in 1991 for indecent exposure.    Then Ali asks Asif about hernias (30:08) (and Ali also asks if he himself has a hernia). Paul Reubens was the man behind one of the country's most beloved household names. "Pee-wee Herman" was born out of Reubens' time at The Groundlings in the 1970s. But, his stand-up act grew into something so much bigger. His character became a cult figure, spawning a series of films and television shows in his honor. This week on Bullseye, we're looking back at the life and work of Paul Reubens by revisiting our conversation with him back in 2014. Hunter Biden's business associate, Devon Archer, testified in front of Congress today about Hunter's alleged business dealings involving his father, Joe.
