He meant to do that. The late-great Paul Reubens character, Pee Wee Herman, made his cinematic splash in 1985's Pee Wee's Big Adventure. The film was coincidentally the feature film debut of director Tim Burton. The happy marriage created a beloved box office hit. But now, decades later, is the titular "man child" just too much or not enough? Is "Dotty" now endearing or desperate? Is "Large Marge" still as menacing? The Old Roommates pour two big bowls of Mr. T cereal and give it all a rewatch through their middle-aged lens. Listen to this.Old Roommates can be reached via email at oldroommatespod@gmail.com. Live from Los Angeles, it was Wednesday eve. Loved spending it with Television Academy Hall of Famer, Laraine Newman. I was a little down-and-out post-new Moderna vax, but thanks to Laraine, I swiftly forgot all about it. She took us through her early childhood, finding her place with the funny. From neighborhood street plays, and school theatre with classmate Paul Reubens, to becoming a founding member of The Groundlings with her sister, Tracy Newman, to Lorne Michaels and Lily Tomlin discovering her for a special which then led to Saturday Night Live. Arriving in New York to some trauma, the SNL experience, characters that transitioned, writers, castmates, running with Gilda, feeling left out with Garrett, drugs, American Hot Wax, Stardust Memories with Woody, a Beatle, the Stones, better drugs, 5 years later, always working, voicework becoming the thing. Motherhood and mazel, Celebrity Autobiography to her audible memoir, May You Live in Interesting Times, available here: https://bit.ly/48opI8M. I savored every moment. Whip-smart, brilliantly funny, and deeply insightful, I cherish Laraine's talents & her friendship. I adored spending this time in her good company. Brava! The guys then discuss creation and success of “Pee Wee's Playhouse”. They conclude by discussing his legacy as well as his unfortunate arrest in 1991 for indecent exposure. Then Ali asks Asif about hernias (30:08) (and Ali also asks if he himself has a hernia). Asif defines the term hernia and discusses the different types, especially inguinal hernias which are the most common type in middle ages men (like Ali). They discuss the common symptoms as well as complications of hernias such as incarcerated or strangulated hernias. This week on Rational Security, Alan, Quinta, and Scott were joined by Fulton County correspondent Anna Bower to talk through the week's big news down south, including: “Waiting on a Midnight Complaint in Georgia.” Late on Monday night, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis finally indicted Donald Trump alongside eighteen co-conspirators for attempting to interfere with the state of Georgia's 2020 election results. What does this fourth criminal indictment mean for the universe of legal cases against the former president?“Hunter Becomes the Hunted.” Earlier this week, Attorney General Merrick Garland took the unexpected step of appointing Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss as a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden. What led to this move? And what does it mean for the investigation into the president's son?“Why So CFIUS?” President Biden has finally issued a long-expected executive order installing some controls on outbound U.S. investments, particularly in relation to China and certain sensitive technology sectors. How big a deal is this new policy? For object lessons, Alan shouted out his latest favorite thriller about a bunch of falsely accused Brits, “Suspicion.” Quinta brought the listeners' attention to an entertaining court transcript about “fleets.” Scott celebrated the late Paul Reubens' legacy as Pee-Wee Herman, including his phenomenal 1979 debut on “The Dating Game.” And Anna endorsed her latest courtroom treat, Papa John's Pizza.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/lawfare. Comedian Jamel Johnson (@NonProfitComic), host of too many podcasts to count, joins Matt, Jesse and Andy to mourn Paul Reubens, discuss Amazing Larry and his deleted scene, the Cabazon dinosaurs, Sonic & Knuckles, Michael Jackson's Sonic connection, how to help striking film and TV workers, a tick bite that can cause a meat allergy, leprosy on the rise in Florida, Mars spinning (slightly) faster, crushing a design contest for kids and connecting old mice to young mice.
Susie is trying to call a truce with the airlines. We'll give a little, they'll give a little. Sarah discussed a recent plant theft she participated in and the karmic repercussions she incurred as a result, but Susie is more intrigued by a pattern of plant burglaries Sarah has conducted over the years. Turns out, Sarah is in an actual plant gang. It's hilarious. Susie finally convinced Sarah to join Arnold's Pump Club, and her reaction was shocking. Susie talks about an article on the author of The Body Keeps the Score, and why he's a hero and a villain (and so are the rest of us). We mourn the death of Paul Reubens and Sarah shares what PeeWee meant to her. We discuss the release of one of Charles Manson's "Family" members from prison and debate whether their sentences were fair. We analyze the decision of one man to spend $14,000 on a realistic Collie costume and Sarah explains why someone's childhood might be the driving force to such a strange choice. Plus, we can't stop laughing about the Chinese zoo that was accused of having humans dress up as bears, and we truly can't decide whether we think they are animals or humans in costume.Join our book club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSponsors:Get 20% off when you go to https://www.liquid-iv.com and use code: CANDY at checkout!Open a Chime Checking account with at least a $200 qualifying direct deposit to get started at https://www.chime.com/braincandyGet an exclusive 20% off your first order when you visit https://thrivecausemetics.com/braincandyGo to https://nutrafol.com and enter the promo code: BRAINCANDY to save $15 off your first month's subscription!More podcasts at WAVE: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/artist/wave-podcast-network/1437831426See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Paul Reubens was the man behind one of the country's most beloved household names. "Pee-wee Herman" was born out of Reubens' time at The Groundlings in the 1970s. But, his stand-up act grew into something so much bigger. His character became a cult figure, spawning a series of films and television shows in his honor. This week on Bullseye, we're looking back at the life and work of Paul Reubens by revisiting our conversation with him back in 2014. He stopped by the show to trace the trajectory of his life and career as Pee-Wee Herman. Plus, we get into the last thing Paul would ever work on as Pee-Wee Herman — the Pee-Wee Herman Radio Hour.
On July 30th of this year the world lost Paul Reubens. Some losses just feel different. If you were a child in the 1980s, then you know Paul Reubens as Pee-wee Herman. The red bow tie, the secret word of the day, and of course an adventure to find his lost bike. Today we honor one of the most iconic characters to grace any screen as we talk about the 1985 classic, Pee-wee's Big Adventure. I'm Mo Shapiro and joining me as always the basement to my Alamo, Max Sanders. And with that...

The guys discuss the sad passing and the legacy of Pee-wee Herman (aka Paul Reubens), who was a huge influence on their childhood. Justin shares the hilarious People article with a headline about how he and Kate ate rancid meat (slow news day much?), then he brings us a disturbing story about manatee behavior. We read a letter from Becky in Michigan who has a possible solution for Justin's groundhog (aka whistle pig) problem. Finally, we hear a voicemail from Amy about how Christian is actually not a Millennial and she ends with a truly disgusting WYR about farts (that might end up in People Magazine). Also, TV critic David Bianculli reflects on the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes and what to watch while Hollywood production is halted.

Hunter Biden's business associate, Devon Archer, testified in front of Congress today about Hunter's alleged business dealings involving his father, Joe. According to Archer, Joe was on speakerphone for more than 20 of Hunter's business calls. The excuse being pushed for this? Joe was only on to discuss the weather. On top of that, the DOJ tried to put Devon Archer in prison before he had the chance to testify, so it looks like the Left definitely isn't trying to silence anyone willing to speak out against the Bidens' corruption. On a solemn note, Paul Reubens, famous for playing Pee-wee Herman, passed away today. Rep. Steve Cohen was brutally mocked for suggesting “barriers” to separate women from trans athletes in locker rooms. These people continue to beclown themselves at every opportunity while defending this insanity. More than 100 transgender contestants reportedly entered the Miss Italy pageant this week as a response to the beauty contest recently barring transgender participants. Ironically, the “transgender” contestants signing up are actually biological females. A transgender Canadian released a video slamming doctors for denying their request to be euthanized. Is this the only person in Canada whom doctors won't help off themselves? Or is it possible that they don't want the narrative about people regretting trans surgeries getting out? Either way, hopefully, this isn't a sign of things to come. Today's Sponsors: Barrel Buddy Cleaning our guns is a REALLY important step in being a responsible gun owner.
