Adding to this stress, the pandemic gave us quarantines, social-distancing, and mask mandates. British writer Damian Barr wrote "We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some have super-yachts. Some have just one oar." Equally of concern is the difference we all have in coping abilities. The Stonewall Riots in New York City gave rise to the Gay Liberation Front and other lesbian and gay movements across the U.S., Canada and beyond.
