WEATHER WEDNESDAY TODAY And we'll find out when this glorious cooldown will be over for that last blast of summer (or maybe not) with Fox 31's meteorologist Dave Fraser at 12:30THE NOT SO SPECIAL SESSION IS OVER And Democrats, instead of looking at cutting anything, just raised taxes on businesses instead. And I say that because not a single Republican voted to raise taxes on small business, and every bill brought forth by Republicans was killed on the very first day of the session. So what happened? The Denver Gazette has this wrap up:Five tax bills passed along party-lines in both chambers, offered by the majority Democrats in the House. The measures are designed to raise general fund revenue to cover a portion of the shortfall. The fiscal notes said they could raise as much as $253.2 million. But the rest is now up to Gov. Jared Polis, who will present a spending reduction plan to the Joint Budget Committee on Thursday afternoon that could cover another third of the shortfall. The state's general fund reserve, set at 15% of general fund spending, or $2.33 billion, will cover the last third. Those dollars, however, will have to be recovered in the 2026-27 budget — and, already, the June 2025 revenue forecast showed that budget would start with about $700 million in the red.Hmmm, why, if they "fixed" the issues that were "created" by HR 1 would be we starting the next budget year in the red? Could it be that it ISN'T HR1, it is the massive overspending we've seen since 2019 when Democrats took everything over? Member of the Joint Budget Committee Barb Kirkmeyer joins me at 2:30 to talk about it all. Here is a list of the eleven bills, only one of which got any Republican votes, that were passed by Democrats this year.DEMOCRATS CONDEMNED A PRIVATE CITIZEN And in the process impugned the character of House Minority Leader Rose Pugliese. This all goes back to a childish photo taken of a Democrat lawmaker who chose her outfit poorly for the House. The photo was then shared on a Signal chat among GOP lawmakers who made nasty comments about her appearance in the chat. Someone then leaked the photo to someone on X and it became public and typical internet nastiness ensued. The Representative who started the whole kerfuffle had already announced he was leaving the House in September, so when Ryan Armagost heard he was going to be censured for it, he dipped early. But the Democrats can't miss a chance to be drama queens and act like this is beyond the pale in politics so they decided to have a "resolution" saying what a bad, bad man Armagost is and the Republicans were like what? Then Dem leadership said Rose Pugliese was part of the problem even after she showed evidence that she wasn't. If this reads like a middle school soap opera good, that's what it is. I know Rose as a person, and I'm here to tell you she is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. The Dems did her dirty and they know it.

In a 2006 documentary, I assailed Texas Republican lawmakers for ramming a brutish gerrymandering scheme into law, doing my report from a street sign in central Austin. That sign was the exact location the GOP had used as the pin point for slicing up the city's one congressional district into four pieces like a pizza. Each slice radiated far out of town, merging into Republican suburbs in distant cities – thus suppressing Austin's progressive voice in Congress. Now here they come again, assaulting progressive voters throughout the state with a gerrymandering gang bang. At the command of Donald Trump, our so-called “representatives” are submissively shoving millions of Texans into jerry-rigged Trump enclaves, solely to serve his political desires.Far from being just another corrupt hyper-partisan political manipulation, this GOP ploy is stripping away America's fundamental principle of representative democracy. Instead of grassroots communities sorting out their differences and choosing their own governing representatives in local elections, political hacks in Washington and the state capital are cynically relocating people's political “locality” (with no participation at all by the people).Yes, instead of constituents choosing their members of Congress, gerrymandering lets members choose their constituents. So “your” representative doesn't need to know you, much less serve you. Thus, the issues that Congress considers don't percolate up from local communities, but are chosen by national and state political operatives and multimillion-dollar campaign donors. It's the nationalization of local elections, ignoring the real needs of hometown people. Why shouldn't you have a representative who's at least from your community, maybe even knows your name… and gives a damn about something more constructive than Trump's anti-democratic, plutocratic agenda.Jim Hightower's Lowdown is a reader-supported publication. Welcome to the Sustainable Clinical Medicine Podcast! In this Episode, Dr. Sarah Smith sits down with Dr. Stefanie Simmons, an emergency medicine physician and the Chief Medical Officer of the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes Foundation. Together, they dive deep into the critical topic of healthcare workforce burnout and what it really takes to create healthier, more sustainable clinical environments—not just for physicians, but for all healthcare workers. Dr. Simmons shares her personal journey from residency, through struggles with peripartum depression, to pioneering new roles in clinician well-being and organizational support. They explore the stigma surrounding mental health in medicine, discuss the evolution of coaching and peer support, and look at the broader culture shift that's starting to reshape the medical landscape. Whether you're a healthcare professional searching for tools to thrive or an advocate for change in medicine, this conversation is packed with practical insights and hope for building a more supportive future in clinical practice. Here are 3 key takeaways from this episode: Systemic Change is Essential: We need to move beyond just “building a stronger canary”—the focus must be on building better, more human-centered healthcare environments that support both patients and clinicians. Removing Mental Health Stigma Matters: Dr. Simmons spotlights the real harm from outdated licensing and credentialing questions about mental health. Progress is happening: more states and organizations are removing these barriers, making it safer for clinicians to seek help. Actionable Resources Exist: The Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes Foundation provides toolkits, badges, and learning collaboratives to help organizations enhance clinician wellbeing, reduce administrative burden, and foster peer support. Meet Dr. Stefanie Simmons: Stefanie Simmons, MD is the Chief Medical Officer at the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation and a board-certified emergency medicine physician. She was the primary advisor to NIOSH for the Impact WellbeingTM guide for healthcare leaders, leads multi-state programs to improve the operational environment of care and remove barriers to mental health care, and serves as a national thought leader in healthcare worker well-being. Stefanie served as the Vice President of Patient and Clinician Experience for Envision over 7 years, serving 26,000 physicians and advanced practice providers with a focus on professional well-being, including translational research and programs designed to bring well-being best practices to clinical environments. She served as lead clinical faculty for the Clinician Experience Project Wellbeing program. Stefanie earned her Bachelor of Science and Medical Doctor degrees from University of Michigan and completed residency training at the University of Michigan/St. Joseph Mercy emergency medicine residency. Many assume that hitting a $2.5 million savings milestone means instant financial freedom in retirement. But as today's episode reveals, having substantial wealth doesn't automatically mean you're ready to retire. One of the most complex situations financial advisors encounter isn't a lack of money—it's uncertainty, fear, and the challenge of transitioning from accumulating wealth to using it wisely. In this episode, host Adam Olson explores a real-life client case study: a couple in their early 60s with $2.5 million in retirement savings, yet they found themselves paralyzed by financial unknowns. The husband, despite financial security, remained tied to his job because his identity and purpose were wrapped up in his career.Listeners will gain powerful insights into: • Why a high net worth doesn't guarantee retirement readiness. • The key financial and psychological roadblocks keeping people from retiring. • How to create a guaranteed income stream for retirement stability. • The importance of defining purpose beyond work to avoid an unfulfilling retirement. • How the right planning process can provide clarity, confidence, and financial peace. If you're wondering whether you're truly ready to retire—or if you're stuck in financial indecision—this episode is a must-listen. John's monologue focuses on the White House declared a “Crime Emergency” in the District of Columbia and ordered the mobilization of National Guard soldiers to take over the policing of the nation's capital. He also talks about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth who says he's proud to be part of the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches, an archconservative network of Christian congregations. Hegseth recently made headlines when he shared a CNN video on social media about CREC, showing its pastors arguing women should not have the right to vote. He then interviews Deborah Mucarsel-Powell who is an American politician and former academic administrator who served as the U.S. Representative for Florida's 26th congressional district from 2019 to 2021. Mucarsel-Powell was the first Ecuadorian-American and first South American-born immigrant to serve as a member of congress. In 2024 she went up against Rick Scott to represent Florida in the Senate. They discuss the D.C. Takeovers, AI videos, and all the other myriad ways the Trump administration is trying to shift attention and concern away from the Epstein Files. And winding it up, John chats with comedian Rhonda Hansome and listeners about trending topics and current politics.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (08/07/2025) 3:05pm- In a post to social media, “comedian” Rosie O'Donnell wrote that ABC is allegedly reviewing progressive bias on The View. O'Donnell warned that the show would soon be canceled to appease “the orange messiah,” Donald Trump. Is it possible the show is in jeopardy of being discontinued because the quality is low? For example, South Park has been aggressively targeting the Trump Administration in its latest episodes—but Paramount recently awarded the show's creators with an estimated $1.5 billion. 3:30pm- Russell Vought—Director of the Office of Management & Budget—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss “200 Days of Winning” with the Trump Administration. What are the Trump Administration's most underappreciated accomplishments so far? Director Vought explains: securing the U.S. Southern border & preventing entrenched bureaucrats from slowing President Donald Trump's agenda. 4:00pm- Dr. Wilfred Reilly—Professor of Political Science at Kentucky State University & Author of “Lies My Liberal Teacher Told Me”—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss 40% of Brown University students claiming they are gay and a CBS host who is worried about moon colonization…because of the awful history of colonialism. In response, Governor Greg Abbott has argued that fleeing the state to prevent the legislative process simply because you don't like the expected outcome of an upcoming vote amounts to an “abandonment or forfeiture of an elected state office.” 5:10pm- While appearing on CNN, political strategist Brad Todd explained that errors with the 2020 census “disproportionately” hurt Republican dominated states. 5:15pm- Democratic Strategist James Carville is now encouraging his party to make Puerto Rico and Washington D.C. states and add four seats to the Supreme Court if they take control of the House, Senate, and White House in 2028. 5:30pm- Chris Cuomo was tricked by perhaps the most obvious deep fake video of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez in recent memory—and didn't realize it for nearly 3 hours! Are we actually on Team AOC here? 5:40pm- Dr. Victoria Coates— Former Deputy National Security Advisor & the Vice President of the Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Donald Trump potentially meeting with Vladimir Putin to negotiate an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
