Writer traveling the US 60 years after ‘Travels with Charley’. These are my observations as I travel to all 50 states.

Packing for 125 days on the road I've learned some things about what I need...and more importantly about what I don't.

I look back on the first and only time I went skydiving in my mid-twenties and reflect back on how incredibly stupid it was to go to a discount skydiving outfit just to save a few bucks.

I cut my 50 states in 125 days trip short...very short...as states begin to enforce "Sheltering in Place". Photo credit: Pete Bothwell

Visiting the 6th state out of a planned 50 I get a private magic lesson and reflect on my unsuccessful past with magic.

Before states began to request that people shelter in place I struggle with my decision to stay on the road.

Steinbeck said that Texas was a nation and he was right! I drive the Lonestar State in 5 days and reflect on the literature and movies that have inspired this trip.

I drive from Albuquerque to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico where I sit in a private hot spring and have what I think is an aesthetic experience. But...things are not always what they seem.

I travel to Page, Arizona and Monument Valley, Utah and realize that I don't mind being outdoors. I have always considered myself a professional homebody but hiking in Arizona has changed my mind.

The episode that started it all. I start my epic trip of 50 states in 125 days driving from Big Sur to Las Vegas, Nevada and actually find that these two places have quite a lot in common.
