Kathryn Starke is an urban literacy consultant, reading specialist, author, keynote speaker, adjunct professor, and the founder of Creative Minds Publications, which is an award-winning educational publishing and literacy consulting company that helps schools achieve reading success. Kathryn helps to motivate children, support parents, and inspire fellow educators to love teaching reading. Kathryn has been featured on multiple media platforms including Success magazine, Inspire Me Today, Virginia This Morning, and Thrive Global. She has served as a literacy trainer for the University of Chicago Urban Education Institute and VCU AmeriCorps program. Ebony Magazine and the University of Chicago Urban Education Institute co-hosted an education roundtable on Wednesday, Aug. 11 at the University of Chicago's International House. A panel of some of the nation's most distinguished voices on education discussed the public education crisis and how best practices from all sources, public, charter and private schools, as well as the emerging educational technology sector can transform the nation's K-12 schools. The goal of the roundtable was to reengage the community on educational issues, and to identify at hand tools that teachers and parents can use to better prepare their children for the future in a challenging knowledge economy.
