In the 12 th century Bible illumination became widely popular in european art. Taking six old testament books (the four books of King and two Chronics) as examples the following thesis is an iconographic study which focuses on the relationship between pictures of French, English, German, Italian and Spanish manuscripts. The aim was to find out which role had older pictorical models, spontaneous artistic creations, the text of the Bible and other liturgical manuscripts, as well as the use of the history of King David in political discussions in the process of image finding.
