Aus der Bestenliste-Jury diskutieren die Literaturkritiker*innen Beate Tröger, Eberhard Falcke und Jörg Magenau mit Carsten Otte über die Bücher der Juni-Bestenliste. Handelt es sich bei dem neuen Roman „Pompeji“ von Eugen Ruge um eine gelungene historische Satire auf heutige Gesellschaftsverhältnisse oder rührt der preisgekrönte Schriftsteller zu viele Zutaten in einen literarischen „Rumtopf“, der keine Erkenntnis ermöglicht? Die Jury der SWR Bestenliste war sich im Literaturhaus Wiesbaden genauso uneinig wie in der Bewertung des Gedichtbandes „Winterpoem 20/21“ von Maria Stepanova. Während Jörg Magenau und Eberhard Falcke die vagen Erstarrungsbilder der russischen Dichterin kritisierten, die nur wenig über die im Titel angedeuteten Epochenbrüche aussagen würden, meinte Beate Tröger ein Pandemie-Puzzle mit vielen literarischen Bezügen gelesen zu haben, dessen Qualität auch noch Jahre später erkennbar bleiben werde. Einvernehmlich verlief die Jury-Diskussion zu Arnold Stadlers amüsanter und zugleich schwermütiger Suada „Irgendwo. Aber am Meer“. Falcke nannte den Büchner-Preisträger ein literarisches „Original“, dessen Sentenzen er immer wieder gerne liest, selbst wenn sie sich im Text wiederholen würden. Magenau und Tröger verwiesen auf die kunstvoll ausformulierten Irrwege des Erzählers, der vor einer kulturfeindlichen Gegenwart nach Momenten der Transzendenz suche und sie zumindest übergangsweise im Schreiben finde. Begeistert waren die drei Jury-Mitglieder über die kurze und erstmals ins Deutsche übersetzte Erzählung „Rezitativ“ von Literaturnobelpreisträgerin Toni Morrison, Spitzenreiterin der SWR Bestenliste im Juni. Zwei achtjährige Mädchen lernen sich in einem Kinderheim kennen, und so unterschiedlich ihre Hautfarbe auch sein mag, der Text verrät nicht, wer schwarz und wer weiß ist, richtet den Blick vielmehr auf das rätselnde Publikum, das über die eigenen Ressentiments nachdenken kann. Aus den vier besprochenen Büchern lasen Isabelle Demey und Sebastian Mirow. Die Moderation übernahm SWR-Literaturredakteur Carsten Otte.

 In week 3 of our sermon series — Christ is Risen, Ps Janice leads us to look at a moment in John 20 where we find Mary Magdalene weeping outside the tomb of Jesus. In her anxiousness, she fails to recognise the angels, and even Jesus. It was when Jesus calls out to her the second time that she recognises Jesus. Do we sometime find ourselves like Mary? We might not realise our anxiousness, amidst shifting circumstances and sudden changes, yet we find trying to find something to have certainty and control over. But Jesus call us like how He calls to Mary, from anxious seeking to faithful witness. Jesus gave her not only His presence, and assurance but a direction to go. As we enter our week, may we bring our anxiousness to Jesus. Declaring our faith in Him rather than ourselves and allowing him to bring His presence, His assurance and His direction.

Las últimas tres centrales nucleares alemanas que quedaban en operación cerraron el sábado pasado. La desconexión de los reactores de Emsland, Isar 2 y Neckarwestheim supuso el punto final de un capítulo histórico que se ha extendido durante más de medio siglo. Era, cierto es, una muerte anunciada. La energía nuclear ha sido desde hace décadas muy polémica en Alemania. Para muchos alemanes este tipo de generación eléctrica es insostenible y peligrosa, para otros se trata de una fuente de energía fiable, limpia y barata. El debate lo ganaron hace tiempo los antinucleares que desde los años setenta presionan para que el país prescinda de este tipo de generación eléctrica. En la década de los ochenta el movimiento antinuclear adquirió mucha fuerza tras la catástrofe de Chernóbil. La radiación alcanzó Alemania y eso provocó que los Gobiernos de la época se replanteasen su estrategia nuclear. A finales de los ochenta se dejaron de construir nuevas centrales, pero no había todavía planes de cerrarlas. Fue en 2011, coincidiendo con la fusión de tres reactores de la central japonesa de Fukushima, cuando la entonces canciller Angela Merkel decidió dar el paso e implementar un plan de cierre gradual de todos los reactores. Ese plan tenía como fecha tope el pasado 1 de enero, pero el Gobierno de Olaf Scholz decidió prorrogar unos meses la vida de las tres centrales que quedaban abiertas para amortiguar el impacto energético de la guerra de Ucrania. Esta vez sí se ha cumplido el calendario para disgusto de los que creen que será muy difícil sustituir a los reactores nucleares. El Gobierno quiere que la generación eléctrica se realice en el futuro sólo por medios renovables, pero aún falta mucho para eso. A corto y medio plazo serán los combustibles fósiles quienes llenen el vacío que deja la nuclear. Desde que empezaron a cerrarse centrales nucleares hace doce años Alemania ha incrementado su consumo de gas natural y ha vuelto a quemar carbón en grandes cantidades. El Gobierno asegura que esto es temporal, que para el año 2038 todas las térmicas de carbón habrán cerrado también y la mayor parte de la electricidad generada será de origen renovable. Entretanto el país no sólo quema carbón, también lo extrae a cielo abierto, algo que no gusta nada a los movimientos ecologistas, pero hoy por hoy no existe otra opción si quieren mantener el suministro eléctrico. Se están construyendo entretanto plantas de regasificación en la costa y se ha disparado la inversión en nuevas plantas eólicas y fotovoltaicas. El debate sobre la energía nuclear no se limita a Alemania. En unas partes de Europa se está siguiendo el camino señalado por los alemanes, mientras que en otras se apuesta firmemente por las centrales nucleares. Ese es el caso del Reino Unido, que está construyendo una nueva planta, en Finlandia, que acaba de inaugurar la mayor central nuclear de Europa y, por supuesto en Francia, que obtiene en torno al 70% de la electricidad que consume de una cincuentena de reactores nucleares. Para los alemanes ya no hay vuelta atrás. Tienen ahora que demostrar que lo que aportaban sus reactores es fácilmente sustituible por otras fuentes limpias y baratas en un periodo de tiempo relativamente corto. No todos lo tienen tan claro. De no conseguirlo la electricidad no escaseará, pero se encarecerá notablemente, algo que un país industrial como Alemania no puede permitirse. When we follow in Jesus' suffering, we are formed and transformed, and in that process we partner with Him in 3 aspects: 1. formation, 2, intervention, and 3. redemption. Is there a pain or trial you carry that you want to bring to God today? If you do, have a conversation with God about it instead of suppressing, denying or asking God to rid you of those pains. We also pray that God will redeem your suffering, and release healing into you and those areas of your life.
