This is a compact Asian American Studies course in podcast form. In around 5 minute episodes, we'll be covering topics like politics, social norms, pop culture, and more as it relates to Asian American history.
In this episode, I talk about South Korea's public transportation. South Korean subways, buses, and taxis are the most popular methods of moving around in South Korea. More people utilize the clean subways and fast buses rather than drive in their own personal vehicles to get to work or school. I also talk about a brief history of South Korean subways and I discuss how South Koreans benefit from these well-established public transportation systems.
The drastic decrease in birth rates of South Korea has been an issue for a long time. At this rate, South Korea's population may be halved by 2100! In this episode, I explored some reasons behind this phenomenon and some methods that were implemented to hopefully slow this event.
In this episode, I go into the history of Korean food and how South Korea's food culture has developed until modern day. Korean food is not just important because of how delicious it is, but there are numerous societal as well as communal aspects that differentiate Korean cuisine from other countries' cuisine. You might have tried Korean food before and it isn't surprising to find oneself going back to it, but while you're at it next time, why not enjoy the history of it as well?
Korean American culture has become more popular through Kpop as well as Korean food. Thus, the depiction of Korean American culture has also become diversified over the years. One of these examples is in the recent Netflix TV show, where two Korean American people get into a road rage incident and we explore their unique Korean American experiences in the United States of America. There are numerous depictions of church communities and other private lives of Korean American people.
