合作投稿邮箱:american.roulette.pod@gmail.com 【时间轴】 03:37 Netflix有选择的收购,出于哪些考虑? 49:52 华纳的主题乐园,Netflix如何处置 【 What We Talked About】 Anyone who follows the history of Netflix knows it is a tech giant that almost never participates in large-scale acquisitions. So, why has it suddenly stepped up with a premium bid for Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD)—a massive, historic, and legendary studio? Is Netflix stepping in to save this legacy institution, or will this deal lead to its downfall? This episode is a special crossover between “硅谷101” (Silicon Valley 101), “美轮美换,” and “去现场.” Join host Xiaohua, Yang Yi from “去现场,” and Yiwen and Jinpeng from “硅谷101” as they break down this dramatic takeover. Note: We recorded this on December 7th, one day before Paramount launched its hostile takeover bid. Therefore, our discussion focuses primarily on Netflix—why a company with Silicon Valley DNA decided to venture into traditional media and how it outpaced its competitors. Even though a Paramount bid was anticipated during our recording, WBD continues to recommend the Netflix offer to its shareholders. 【Support Us】 If you like our show and want to support us, please consider the following: Join our membership program: https://theamericanroulette.com/paid-membership/ Support us on Patreon: www.patreon.com/americanroulette Business Inquiries and fan mail: american.roulette.pod@gmail.com 【Timeline】 03:37 Selective Acquisitions: What are Netflix's strategic considerations? 04:51 TV News Networks: A "hot potato" in the deal? 07:39 A sudden announcement that caught Hollywood off guard. 10:29 Ads, password sharing, and the move into sports: Netflix is no stranger to disruptive change. 13:55 Will Trump intervene? There's an unspoken hierarchy in TV here where romance is tolerated as a subplot but rarely trusted to carry a series. Why do you think American platforms are comfortable betting hundreds of millions on crime, fantasy, and superheroes but get nervous about a straightforward love story? This week, your noonas tackle this very questions and are making a plea to the streaming channels. We know romance. We know K-dramas. Please, for the love of the highest grossing genre in publishing, hear us out as to why we need to follow the K-Drama model and adapt more romance novels for the small screen.Books Mentioned on This EpisodeRaiders of the Lost Heart by Jo SeguraHamartia by Scarlett DrakeA Night To Surrender by Tessa DareI Love You Like it's 1999 by AJ PinePlaying For Her Heart by Megan EricksonThe E.M.M.A. Effect by Lia RileyReady to download your first audiobook? Sometimes I wish I could just have the intro paragraph to an episode be GAAHHHHHHH THIS ONE WAS SO FUN! So this is my version of that: telling you that I wish it could be that, and then also telling you that we go deep on so many components of the global spread (and embrace) of Korean pop culture. We go into the calculated political elements, the uncanny elision of North Korean stories, and why so many of the Korean narratives resonating with American audiences are ones crafted by Korean-Americans. This is a really effusive and loving episode that also manages to have some very real talk about why kids dressing up as characters from K-Pop Demon Hunters is not yellow face. IT'S SO GOOD, and I know we're gonna have a great discussion about it. ALSO GUESS WHAT, WE HAVE VERY GOOD EPISODES TRANSCRIPTS NOW! An insecure Korean-American woman struggles with old resentments against her beautiful best friend, exposing the impossible beauty standards that caused them. https://www.instagram.com/iwishiwere_pretty/ Conversation with actor/director Hanah Chang & Producer Quand C. Robinson Director Statement I Wish I Were Pretty is not just the title, but also a phrase I have constantly thought since I was old enough to understand that with beauty comes power. Many of the elements included in this story are inspired by my personal experiences. One of my constants while growing up was hearing my mother say to me that I would be prettier if I had “ssanggeopul” (double eyelids). I will never forget the drunk customer from my bartending days who asked me to bring him a pretty server. And more recently, when my father saw a K-Pop music video and asked if that is the kind of thing I want to do, his then-girlfriend said “that is for the young and beautiful.” These experiences were painful, and I wanted to redeem them by turning them into part of my art. The struggle to feel that we are enough is felt across all genders. As I was revising the script, I sent it to a family friend in the film industry in Korea, only to find out he had just recently undergone plastic surgery. I both hate that he felt that he had to make that choice and understand it. After all, I can understand how much emotional turmoil he had to suffer for him to decide to permanently alter his physical appearance. Because I know how important representation is both in front of and behind the camera, I hope this film will be inspiring specifically for folks who work in the industry. I am so proud to state that I made this film with a crew of mostly womxn/people of color from beginning to end! For these reasons and more, I believe this film will be impactful, influential, and monumental. There are already many Korean dramas and movies about beauty standards, but the story typically begins after the protagonist undergoes plastic surgery. My intention with ‘I Wish I Were Pretty' is never to judge anyone who chooses that, but to provide a fresh take and a different way to deal with what we have internalized. And my hope is that we will learn to be kinder to and more accepting of ourselves as we are. —— Subscribe to the podcast: https://twitter.com/wildsoundpod https://www.instagram.com/wildsoundpod https://www.facebook.com/wildsoundpod

The week came at us sideways: calendars out of sync, tours on the brink, and one of the bravest artist statements we've seen in years. We start with that universal fog after Thanksgiving, the kind that makes you write November in December, and use it as a lens for how timing shapes fandom—planning travel, stacking budgets, and riding the emotional wave of yes… or maybe not. Then we get real about touring. MIYAVI's North America cancellation stings, but the message lands: logistics, economics, sustainability. No vague “unforeseen circumstances,” just the hard truth that keeps a door open for future shows. On the other side, KARD's promoter does what every fan hopes for—confirms passports and US work visas are fully approved. That kind of proactive clarity flips anxiety into excitement, especially when ticket fees and refund gaps have already drained trust. We dig into why fees balloon, how scaling venues too fast backfires, and what fairer practices could look like for fans who bet big on travel. The conversation shifts with MONSTA X's I.M preparing for enlistment while managing back pain, meaning he'll sit out overseas activities and the 2026 tour. It's a reminder that health and duty set the frame for global schedules—and that honest timelines help fans show up with patience instead of surprise. We also unpack the STARTO year-end lineup that leaves out a few major names and raises questions about strategy, conflicts, and expectations around legacy shows. Our most powerful moment arrives with XG's Cocona coming out as transmasculine, non-binary and sharing they had top surgery. The post is thoughtful, proud, and supported by family and members. We talk about what this means for J-pop and idol culture, why representation matters, and how fans can adjust language with care. When artists tell the truth—about identity, about logistics—the relationship gets stronger. That's the throughline: clarity, respect, and the courage to say what's real.If you felt the highs and lows of live music this year—worrying about another cancellation, cheering a green light, or celebrating someone living boldly—this one's for you. Hey lifers! It was lovely seeing all of your spotify wrappeds and every year we are surprised by how much we are able to infiltrate your ears! We think they were sneaky with how they went about ‘assuming’ your age based on your listening and Laura wants it to be clear that she is a mum and the K Pop demon hunters wasn’t her.We know that one time we kind of pulled your leg with a ‘Britt’s big life update’ but this time we actually do have a bit of a life update for you! We chat about all of the changes coming to the podcast next year! Please welcome the offcuts! Britt has sat on telling us all a story for nearly 3 weeks because she’s so embarrassed. In her own words “I’ve done something really stupid” and look, we don’t disagree! Laura has been sucked into a new hyperfixation after Black Friday sales that she’s mostly confused about and doubting the claims that you will see results in 8 weeks. We’re 2 weeks away from Christmas and with it comes an avalanche of feelings and emotions!Tanya Hennessy recently wrote an article titled “I’m homesick for a place I can’t go.” She has a recurring feeling of homesickness and restlessness, not necessarily for a place she grew up, but for a sense of “home” that she can’t define or return to.We speak about experiencing this feeling even when we’re in our own home or with family, reflecting a kind of existential longing rather than literal nostalgia. We also chat about how our sense of ‘home’ has changed so much over the years and at times thinking about what it means now can feel confronting. Transform My Dance Studio – The Podcast For Dance Studio Owners
This episode is Part 2 of our powerful two-part series with global business strategist and offer-creation expert Roland Frasier. And if Part 1 cracked open what studio offers can be, Part 2 is the masterclass that shows you how to actually build them. In this jam-packed final installment, Olivia Mode-Cater and Roland go deep into the psychology, structure, and strategy behind high-converting trial offers, premium incentives, and event-based enrollment systems that reliably turn curious families into committed students. If you've ever struggled with no-shows, low-quality leads, or families who want "just to try it out," this episode gives you a radically different way to enroll students AND protect your time, boost conversions and increase the perceived value of your programs. Roland pulls back the curtain on the same offer strategies he's used across multiple industries to generate explosive results — including the "Dance Deposit Strategy" that boosts conversion rates up to 11X, the premium framework that produced $1.2 million in six days, and the scalable relationship model that turns local fan groups and micro-communities into your most powerful marketing partners. This is a true masterclass in creating dance studio offers that are irresistible, data-driven, and profitable, without relying on discounts or devaluing your magic. Whether you run large trial events, 4–6 week mini-mesters, K-Pop pop-ups, adult socials, or full-season programming, this episode walks you through how to structure, price, and scale your offers with confidence and clarity. What You'll Learn: The Dance Deposit Strategy and why refundable commitments convert 11X higher How to transform free trials into high-converting, benefit-driven events The psychology that gets families to actually show up How to structure 4–6 week programs that lead into full-season enrollment Roland's exact formula for offering credits without losing profit Why knowing your customer acquisition cost (CAC) changes everything The "scale factor": how to multiply what works using centers of influence The wildly effective premium strategy that generated $1.2M in six days How to choose premiums your families already want — without breaking the bank What hero stories, loyalty programs, and affiliate-style systems can do for retention How to turn your families into your studio's most powerful growth engine If you're ready for the kind of strategic, actionable insights that normally require a conference ticket or private consulting, this masterclass will transform the way you design offers forever.
