Philip, Bridget, and Lara discuss the new film from Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation, 'KPop Demon Hunters'. The film follows a group of K-Pop artists in South Korea, Huntr/x, comprised of pop stars Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. These are no ordinary artists, but super-powered warriors capable of detecting and fighting off demons that manage to infiltrate the real world. They not only uses their music to entertain millions, but also to cast an aura of protection over their homeland that keeps ancient demons from feeding on human souls. This aura, the Honmoon, is threatened when one musically talented demon forms a K-Pop boy band to rival Huntr/x. Will the rivalry doom Huntr/x to failure in their mission to protect the world from their nemesis, Gwi-Ma, now that his servants, the Saja Boys, have found success? Five singles, five musical worlds. Sarah and Ms. DJ Panic take listeners on a captivating journey through recent Jpop and Kpop releases that showcase the incredible diversity within these vibrant music scenes. The musical exploration begins with Eve's "Ghost Avenue," a mesmerizing track that effortlessly blends funk, jazz, and lo-fi elements with vocaloid influences. The seamless transitions between genres left us eagerly anticipating each new musical phrase. When the conversation shifts to THE ORAL CIGARETTES' "OVERNIGHT," prepare for a complete contrast – epic hard rock featuring intense drumming, gritty guitars, and Takuya Yamanaka's powerful vocals that literally left us speechless.HANA's "Blue Jeans" offers a more storytelling approach, with production choices that deliberately showcase each member's unique vocals. We were so impressed by this seven-member girl group that we may be doing a deep dive into their discography in a future episode. Vaundy's "再会"(Reunion) brings theatrical rock with Queen influences and dramatic instrumental shifts, creating an almost operatic experience that combines '80s rock sensibilities with modern electronic elements. The journey concludes with K-pop group ONEUS's "X," which immediately grabs attention with its driving bass line, catchy hook, and irresistible groove. The track's danceable quality had usmoving in our seats, demonstrating its infectious energy. From funk to hard rock to storytelling pop to theatrical rock to danceable K-pop, there's something for every listener while expanding musical horizons. Whether you're looking for workout anthems or relaxation soundtracks, these five singles deliver experiences that will keep you coming back for more.Eve: Insta X YouTube Ghost AvenueThe Oral Cigarettes: Insta X YouTube OVERNIGHTHANA: Insta X YouTube Blue JeansVaundy: Insta X YouTube 再会(Reunion)ONEUS: Insta X YouTube Support the showPlease help Music Elixir by rating, reviewing, and sharing the episode. Then we pivot to absurdity with The Naked Gun, spotlighting Liam Neeson stepping into the iconic role of Frank Drebin. Can he match the deadpan brilliance of Leslie Nielsen?Next up, we unpack the horror-romance Together starring Dave Franco and Alison Brie — a charming look at real-life couples navigating fictional heartbreak through the guise of body horror. Finally, we close things out with the anime-style chaos of K-Pop: Demon Hunters — yes, it's exactly what it sounds like, and yes, we are absolutely here for it.TV, film, romance, demons, and... plane crashes? Sean and Amanda start the show by briefly reacting to the box office performance of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps' and wondering whether or not superhero movies will ever return to the levels of the MCU golden days (1:39). Then, they bring in Andy Greenwald to discuss Netflix's newest animated success, ‘KPop Demon Hunters,' which they were initially skeptical of but eventually became charmed by, and they hypothesize what makes a big cultural hit in 2025 (4:46). Next, Sean and Amanda unpack the new slasher legacy sequel ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer,' starring Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui Wonders, which they found incredibly condescending. They talk through why they found the script, performances, and kill sequences to be deeply unsuccessful (38:28). Finally, they reflect on what many consider to be the weakest decade of the horror genre and create their 1990s Horror Movie Canon (1:04:59).
