Are You There, God? It's Me, I'm Queer.

"Every difficult thing that we go through ends up being someone else's survival guide." Alex is a FTM transgender man who lives in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We have been friends for such a long time, and seeing him come into himself over the last several years has been a beautiful thing to witness as his "big sister" and friend. We've supported each other through so many changes, and there has been an incredible amount of healing in his life and in his family since he started his transition. Join us as he tells us all about it.

"For every single hardship that is yet to come, and for every single hardship that you have been through, there will always be one person who is in your corner." This conversation with Andrew about being openly gay and openly Christian is the reason why I started this podcast in the first place. Join us as we both tell you about our negative experiences in the Christian church as openly gay people, the ways that we have been able to overcome church trauma and find our identities with Jesus, and hear the heartwarming last words of acceptance from Andrew's mother before she passed away of breast cancer.

Stevie Burger is an openly gay (and PROUD) Jewish woman living in Portland, Oregon. She was very fortunate to have parents who supported her sexual orientation from the beginning, even though coming out in a Catholic school (as a Jewish person) was anything but easy! I really enjoyed sitting down with her and hearing the ways she loves herself, and the ways her family loves her too.

“I'm growing every single day to love myself a little bit more, and I think that eventually I'll love myself enough to say I'm tired of hiding even just a portion of who I am. If you can't love me for all of me, then that's on you. That's a choice you've made, and I don't feel sorry for it.” We're back, everyone! Probably the best episode yet! Courtney Boy was raised as a Mennonite, but broke away from the religion as a whole when she came out of the closet as a teenager. Listen as she tells us about the Mennonite practices she was raised with, becoming true to herself as a lesbian, and co-parenting her 9 year old daughter with her female partner and her ex-husband.

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Join myself and Kapua Silva from Oahu, Hawaii as she tells us about the mental and religious abuse she endured when her family found out she was a lesbian, and how they finally accepted it almost 20 years later.

"You should give yourself the unconditional love that the Bible says we deserve and we should give everyone else. You aren't excused from that." Talking Jesus with another out and proud lesbian was so beautiful and refreshing. In episode two, we talk about what the Bible ACTUALLY says about homosexuality, how our parents have grown, and how being gay isn't like choosing your favorite flavor of ice cream.

And this idea was birthed from my own experiences coming out as a lesbian in a religious community that told me I couldn't have both. This is a podcast unlike any others. Here, you will listen to people in the LGBTQIA community from ALL over the world tell their stories about growing up in different religions, different households, and different backgrounds. My goal is to shed light on how negative religious influence can be on people of our community, and what we can do better. But I can't do it alone!
