Audius is a creating a decentralized and open-source streaming music system controlled by artists, fans, & developers - not suits.
In this one, we sat down with Shawn aka Major Gape and Harold aka DJ DROPDEAD, two of the veteran members of the Beat Cinema collective. We talk about their now 10-year journey. Starting from dive bars to eventually getting their own tent at Coachella. Their perspectives on the LA beat scene. Their favorite Beat Cinema shows. And a lot more. It’s worth noting that we recorded this at the Beat Cinema 10-Year Anniversary party at the Audius House in LA. It was a very special event a celebration of Beat Cinema the collective going 10 years strong but, more broadly, the one and only LA beat scene. It pulled together members of the whole community at a time where they’re also celebrating the life of Ras G, a true forefather of the scene.
For this one, we sat down with Kandisha. She’s an artist born in Nashville, raised in Atlanta, now pursuing the dream in Los Angeles. She had just put down an incredible performance at the Area 51 Official After Party at the Audius LA House (shoutout to Adam Golden, Yung Skrrt, Ka5sh) I asked her if she was down for an interview and she was kind enough to say yes! Self-proclaimed #1 Backstreet Boys fan and clairovoyant Aries. We talked about her move from the South to LA. The difference between a rapper and an artist. And how she feels there’s not enough black people in LA. A star in the making...
In this one, we sat down with two up and coming LA-based beatmakers - Rhyne and Jillesque for a conversation ranging from the importance of community in their creative journeys to the trickiness of sampling in the current climate of music platforms.
For our sixth episode of the podcast, we sat down with, the one and only, Dibiase. The Green Llama. 12-time beat-battle champion. Half man Half SP404. Highly regarded West Coast veteran. Over 20 years into his craft and still learning and evolving. An OG and elder of the LA Beat Scene. He took us through a full chronology of the LA Beat Scene, talked about his advice for younger artists, and gave us a sense of what’s to come for him. It’s worth noting that this was just moments after his incredible set at the Beat Cinema 10-Year Anniversary party at the Audius LA House. A very special event - a celebration of Beat Cinema collective going 10 years strong but even more broadly the one and only LA beat scene - think Low End Theory, Team Supreme, and others - so it pulled together members of the whole community at a time where they’re also celebrating the life of Ras G, a true forefather of the scene. Shoutout to Beat Cinema for making this possible. https://soundcloud.com/mr-dibiase https://twitter.com/darealdibiase
For our fourth episode of the Audius Artist Podcast we sat down with Alex Dayo and Alyun. Alex is one of those people who can just about do it all. He started out producing parties in Philadelphia, where he’s a local legend for bringing national artists to his hometown for some of the most epic shows the city has ever seen. He's shared the stage as a DJ with many of them, including Cashmere Cat, Snakehips, Baauer, Lido, Wave Racer, Manilla Killa, and more. He’s now in Los Angeles where he’s evolved into a producer and record label founder (Worried Wreckords). Alyun is a singer and songwriter with a story full of twists and turns. The turbulence of a jarring and involuntary family move from America to China as a teenager led to her beginning to write poetry and escaping out to music clubs where she then discovered underground music scenes. Together, they make songs meant to stand the test of time.
It's our third episode of the Audius Artist Podcast and we sat down with Choice just moments after his live set at our housewarming party. He sings, raps, and produces his own unique hybrid of electronic and hip hop and pop. We talked about the performance high he got from a talent show in high school that put him on the path he is today - a feeling he still chases. We talked about his support system. We talked about managing one's own psychology and how that connects to the name he chose for himself. We even talked about how he has the best financial accounting skills in the entire music industry. We shared a lot of laughs along the way and we hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did...
It's our second episode of the Audius Artist Podcast, we sit down with SAKA just moments before his live set at our housewarming party. He's a producer originally from Hong Kong born into a musical family. In a past life, he honed his skills as a product designer in San Francisco. Now he mangles audio like a madman for a living. Distorted. Abrasive. Wild. Melodic. Synesthesia-inducing. We loved getting to know him and we think you will, too.
In our first episode of the Audius Artist Podcast, we sit down with HOUNDTRACK just moments before his live set at our housewarming party. He's a drummer turned beat maker... Soaring, cinematic beats with intricate breakdowns.. Fans say his remixes are better than the originals... On the come-up and a name to look out for...
