Instagram Youtube TiktokSpotifyBio Clinton Brand III, better known as CBIII, is a California-based rapper whose new single “I Won't Quit” delivers a motivational and relatable message for anyone facing hardship. Produced by Tunna Beats, the track carries a Blurry Face energy. It opens with a violin and the soft vocalizations of featured singer Alex Brinkley. When the beat drops, piano, bass, and drums blend with CBIII's reflections on overthinking, contemplating, and debating why he refuses to give up.Lines such as:Sad but I should be filled with joy.Played with my heart just like it was a toy.But the truth is I'm tired of venting. This constant feeling is relentless.Nobody wants to listen and everyone is a critic.Hate my life but I won't give up, I can't give in.illustrate the emotional tension of the song. “I Won't Quit” confronts the fear of failure—what if I'm not good enough—while contrasting it with the resilience expressed in the title. The song's final quatrain is especially powerful. Beginning with CBIII's signature wordplay, the message ultimately becomes one of determination and positive change:Phenomenal and astronomical anomaly, that's what I would like to be.I don't want to eat, I don't want to sleep.Tired of this life, the way that I've been living. It's time to make a change for the greater good. This battle with self-doubt and constant overthinking makes “I Won't Quit” deeply relatable. CBIII hopes listeners feel inspired to stay strong when they face similar struggles. The inspiration behind the song is intensely personal. After losing both parents at a young age, Brand was raised by his grandmother and later entered foster care. A recent visit, during which he saw his grandmother's memory fading, was painful for him because she had once been his greatest supporter. It left him feeling abandoned and in a dark place.“I wrote the song ‘I Won't Quit' because at that time I was suicidal. I didn't have anybody else to turn to because my grandma didn't really care anymore,” he shares. The vulnerability in the lyrics initially made him hesitant to release the track. “I actually sat on the song for about five months before even thinking about releasing it because it is so close to home that I wasn't sure if I would have the courage to share it.”Now that the song is out, that vulnerability has become its greatest strength. Many listeners can identify with the experience of missing family support, doubting themselves, and still knowing they must push forward.Beyond his personal drive to achieve greatness, Brand has another powerful motivation: his younger brother, who is also in foster care. Knowing his brother looks up to him, he wants to be an example that resilience matters.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.
The Hyphenate Podcast with special guest (rapper & filmmaker) Zoodeville.
Brad “Scarface” Jordan — Houston's own “every rapper's favorite rapper” — turned 55, and he's celebrating like a man who earned every year. The iconic MC is hosting a massive 55th Birthday Bash & Concert at the Bayou Music Center (11/14/25), and the city is ready. This milestone hits different. Scarface spent the past few years fighting through some of the toughest health challenges of his life, and tonight feels like a victory lap that almost never happened. Before the party kicks off, Scarface sat down with Madd Hatta of Majic 102.1 for a conversation that quickly turned into one of the most honest interviews of his career. The tone shifted from serious to funny to deeply reflective, sometimes within the same sentence. Scarface spoke openly about the health scares that nearly took him out — the aortic aneurysm, the kidney transplant from his son, and the heart surgery he faced late last year. He admitted he didn't want the surgery at first. Someone had to talk him into it. That decision saved his life. He carried that reality with him into the interview. His voice carried the weight of survival but also the energy of a man who still has things to do. At one moment he told Hatta, “To die young was an honor… And if you got old, you lived twice.” It was the kind of line only Scarface could deliver — raw, poetic, and shaped by everything he has lived through. The conversation didn't stay in the heavy lane, though. Scarface lit up when talking about music. He broke down the storytelling in classics like “Can't Get Right.” He talked about the impact of his viral Tiny Desk performance, which introduced a new generation to the depth of his catalog. And even though he said he wasn't planning to make another album, he revealed that a documentary and a biopic are already in motion. His story is coming to the screen, finally. He also hinted that he might not be fully done with music. There's a spark there. You can hear it. Scarface didn't promise anything, but the door isn't shut, and fans know that once the creative urge hits him, history tends to follow. Tonight's event reflects that same spirit. The 55th Birthday Bash promises special guests, live band energy, and a room full of people who have grown up with his music. Scarface plans to greet fans personally. He wants the night to feel like a thank you — not just a performance, but a moment shared with the people who stood with him through the highs and the darkest lows. At 55, Scarface stands as more than a rapper. He is a living document of hip-hop. A survivor with stories still unfolding. A man who has walked right up to the edge of life and decided to come back with deeper purpose.
Recently, Zohran Mamdani won a historic victory in New York City's mayoral election. However he also had a rap career in the not too distant past. So today, Ali and Asif review 5 of Mamdani's songs, done under the pseudonyms Young Cardamom and Mr. Cardamom (5:21). They discuss and grade the following songs: Wabula Naawe, PSV, Kanda (Chap Chap), #1 Spice and Nani. Then since Mamdani's mother (acclaimed film director Mira Nair) is a big proponent of yoga, in the second half Ali asks Asif about medical uses of yoga (24:10). They start off (after a brief digression on cultural appropriation) by talking about the different types of yoga examined in medical studies (Hatha, Iyengar, and Viniyoga). He then discusses their use in back pain, mental health, autoimmune disorders, diabetes, and hypertension. The opinions expressed are those of the hosts, and do not reflect those of any other organizations. Our exit today has us looking at the impact of hip hop artists on film. This week, we are talking about two films that star rappers turned actors. First, we are going to talk about How High, written by Dustin Lee Abraham and directed by Jesse Dylan. Then, we will talk about Kingdom Come, written by David Dean Bottrell and Jessie Jones and directed by Doug McHenry. And by the end of the episode, one of us forgets what this episode is even about!Along the way, we of course discuss rap music and rappers in movies. But we also touch on Tyler Perry, stoner comedies, Legally Blonde, stage plays turned movies, chicken buckets, Dreamgirls, funerals, Lord of the Rings, Christmas movies, and Bob Dylan. And Tripp's favorite line from Runaway Bride comes back again when we discuss Hector Elizondo!Thememusic by Jonworthymusic.Powered by RiversideFM.CFF Films with Ross and friends.Movies We've Covered on the Show on Letterboxd.Movies Recommended on the Show on Letterboxd.

Today’s episode of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast balances breaking political triumphs with entertainment headlines and heartfelt tributes. The crew kicks things off celebrating Democrats’ historic wins on Election Night, with new milestones in diversity and representation. According to the New York Times, Democrats swept key races nationwide, from Abigail Spanberger becoming Virginia’s first female governor to Zoran Mamdani making history as New York City’s first Muslim and socialist mayor since 1917. Political analyst Bakari Sellers joins the show to unpack how these victories — driven by high Black voter turnout — signal a rebuke of Trump-era policies and a potential shift in the South’s political map. The conversation pivots to entertainment as Diddy’s legal saga continues — the hip-hop mogul, currently serving time in New Jersey, was spotted reconnecting with old friend and former NBA player Sebastian Telfair behind bars. “My biggest Pivot is when I set out to do something and people doubt me. I like to have my back against the wall, that's something that makes me.” Norega What happens when a rap legend trades the stage for the mic, and then turns that mic into a cultural movement? Ryan, Channing and Fred sit down with N.O.R.E.—once frontman of the Queens duo Capone‑N‑Noreaga, still a platinum-selling solo act, and now one of hip-hop's most trusted voices behind the mic. We get to know N.O.R.E behind the fame and see him as the family man who loves being a grandpa, building wealth with his wife, who wakes up at 4am to embark on training for the NYC marathon, the guy in the group chat who is always motivating you and the friend who reaches out just to check in. In this wide-ranging conversation, we cover his journey through music, from his early days in Queens, going from jail to how meeting NAS changed his entire perspective on life to being one of the originals to boast Reggaeton to shifting into podcasting, co-founding the hit show Drink Champs with DJ EFN to becoming constant presence in hip hop culture. He takes the guys behind-the-scenes of hip-hop's biggest names, the compliment from 50 Cent that impacted his legacy to Kanye West naming his first child after him to the unexpected collaborations to the “you wouldn't believe” stories to his regret with Michael Jordan and how he's continuing to shape culture in a forever changing society. N.O.R.E shares how he developed a "whatever it takes" mentality to stay relevant as he's seen the culture he's helped build evolve three times over—on the mic, in the studio, in media. This episode is filled with raw energy, unfiltered truths, sharp humor, and the kind of storytelling only someone who's lived it can deliver. Whether you grew up riding the “Super Thug” beat or you're discovering N.O.R.E.'s impact for the first time, this episode is a bridge—between then & now, between rap and media, between the grind and the growth and where we are headed next. Tune in for a conversation that reminds us- a pivot isn't just a change—it's a choice and a continuous movement of evolution. And when you've seen it all, it's what you do next that counts. Regan and Chesko dive into the disturbing world of men's private group chats after young Republicans' racist messages leaked online. They discuss why so many guys are suddenly admitting their own group chats would look "pretty bad" if exposed, and what that reveals about toxic masculinity in isolated spaces. The hosts break down a cringe-worthy clip from the Whatever podcast where a guest confidently shares his sexist and racist views about female pilots and mechanics, sparking a larger conversation about microaggressions, performative allyship, and the obsession with being seen as "good" rather than actually doing good. https://www.ikp.meYoutubeSpotifyInstagramBio K.P. (The Infamous King of Positivity) is a first-generation Honduran American of Garifuna descent and a non-binary rapper and producer whose every move is intentional. From their stage name to their sonic palette, I.K.P. creates with layered purpose.Their latest single “FTW” is a high-voltage anthem built to energize your morning, fuel your workout, or soundtrack your world domination. The track's rattling drums and bass, combined with an eerie and dominant melody, drive a sense of urgency that perfectly matches I.K.P.'s electrifying performance.“I want them to feel unstoppable. Whatever you're doing, you're doing it for the win, and you'reundeniable,” they share.I.K.P.'s writing process is as fluid as it is instinctive. Sometimes they write with pen and pad, other times they record voice notes or use their phone's notes app.“Inspiration strikes in fragments or floods. As they say, you don't gotta get ready if you stay ready.”In a landscape where many artists cling to one sound, I.K.P. thrives in versatility. Whether it's boom bap, drill, reggae, or Latin rhythms, they co-produce and collaborate across styles, honoring Hip-Hop's hybrid roots and their own Afro-Caribbean heritage.“I gravitate towards a lot of things and I don't like to be in a box. I do a lot of co-producing with a multifaceted team. I love Hip-Hop so much because you can make all these hybrid styles make sense.”Their sonic range mirrors a life of movement and resilience. Raised in Norfolk, Virginia after their family emigrated from Honduras, I.K.P. also served over five years in the Marines. Growing up near Portsmouth, they drew early inspiration from Missy Elliott's boundary-breaking creativity. The name I.K.P. represents more than music. It embodies advocacy and empowerment. Their stage name was inspired by their mission to combat the stigma surrounding HIV-positive diagnoses and to use art as a tool for visibility and strength among marginalized communities.“I decided I wasn't going to let things that happened to me define how I saw the world. I wanted to show people who looked like me and lived like me that they could gain a sense of power. And if they didn't know how to do it for themselves, I could show them that it could be done.”I.K.P. also explores the intersection of rap, pop culture, and the evolving LGBTQIA+ experience, acknowledging both the progress and the challenges that remain. They reference artists like Kevin Abstract, Tyler The Creator, Lil Nas X, Young M.A, Steve Lacy, and Syd, trailblazers who continue to push the conversation forward.“It's about self-actualization. Whether you're Black, gay, and/or queer, you're often kept out of certain rooms and conversations. I want to show people that you can always take control and be free.”For I.K.P., rap is a ritual, a reflection of joy, pain, and transformation.“I want to continue to speak for those who feel like they don't have a voice or that their voice is being suppressed. Hip-Hop has always been a tool of progression and evolution, and I just want to continue that tradition,” they said.Their fanbase, affectionately known as #PozFriendlies, can expect a wave of new releases following the success of their fourth full-length project 11:11 | eleven eleven released in 2021. I.K.P. is also expanding their BLOCK SPINNINseries on TikTok and Instagram, a Stereogum-inspired chronicle exploring the history of Billboard Hot 100 hits.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

Sweet and boisterous, rapper Rico Nasty professes her love for making music; cooking for the people she adores most; and her grandmas, all while promoting her new album, Lethal. Her conversation with host Rachel Belle bounces from Maryland boardwalk fries (we’ll tell you what they are!) to Taco Bell (we learn what the Cinnamon Twists are made from) to a popular Puerto Rican party snack her grandma makes her, and only her, as a treat. Did you know those little strawberry candies, the ones with the cute strawberry-print wrapper and squishy center, most often found in grandmas’ candy dishes and purses, have a name? We didn’t either! Learn their name, their history and a bit more about “grandma candy” with the author of the Snack Stack newsletter.
