Paul Rohde is Vice President, Midwest Region, of Waterways Council, Inc. (WCI), which is the national public policy organization advocating a well-maintained system of inland waterways infrastructure and ports. Paul galvanizes the broad coalition of WCI members, a grassroots network comprised of waterway carriers and shippers, agricultural producers, agribusiness, industrial manufacturers, energy providers, organized labor, economic development interests, and conservation groups, among others. He advances WCI’s goals by contributing to the formation of legislative strategy & policy issues, developing and executing a comprehensive public education campaign, initiating effective grassroots activism, media outreach, collaboration with conservation organizations, and WCI membership services and development. Fred Budwine is a Marine Surveyor (Budwine & Associates LLC) and Commercial Diver (River Services Company LLC) from Covington, LA and clearly one of the busiest guys on the river. Fred Budwine has been in business for over 40 years and is a certified auditor for AWO, RCP, Subchapter M and American Chemical Council.  Mr. Eriksen is the head of the IHS Markit's IEG Vantage Client Advisory and Development, and Energy and Transportation groups. In this capacity, he directs the group's efforts in client advisory and development, risk management, consulting and events. Since joining IEG in 2001, Mr. Eriksen led the Transportation, Industrials and Energy Services team and co-led the project consulting practice. Mr. Eriksen regularly speaks on commodity, transportation and infrastructure issues and developments and is an expert witness in the area of transportation, logistics and supply-chain matters. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Eriksen worked for USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service as an agricultural statistician. In that capacity, he conducted national surveys and set national estimates in agriculture. Also while at USDA, he worked for the Agricultural Marketing Service on its transportation and marketing program, conducting research and analysis on domestic and international transportation issues. He also worked as an international longshoreman for the Pacific Maritime Association in Tacoma, Washington. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in agribusiness and agricultural economics from Washington State University. Our nation's waterways are the economic engine that allows our agriculture, manufacturing and energy sectors to thrive by being the most cost-effective and energy-efficient mode of transportation in the world. The Barge In Podcast was created to tell the back stories of the owners, operators and companies that are the lifeblood of this industry and the economic engine that drives the country forward. In addition, we plan on spending some time talking about the various commodities that are moved throughout the system and exported to the rest of the world. We’ll have discussions on freight rates, tariffs, trade policies and international or geopolitical issues that so often have an impact on a quarterly and yearly basis. Time will be spent with our industry groups like WCI, NWF, AWO and many others to get the latest updates on issues critical to the industry like infrastructure funding, Jones Act, Subchapter M, etc. We will also look to bring on guests from the Ports and Terminals, Shipyard and Repair Facilities, Marine contractors and dredging operations, Salvage, Divers and surveyors. And last but not least, we will certainly sprinkle in some interviews with some of the leading Admiralty Attorneys servicing the industry along with underwriters and insurance brokers to cover the various hot topics of the day.
