C3 City Light is a startup church in Raleigh, NC led by Pastors Stuart + April Barham. We are a city on a hill, taking light into the darkness. You'll discover that our passion + our life are centered around relationships -- with God + each other. So you'll find us here, until Raleigh looks like Hea…
FRIEND OF SINNERS // WEEK 1 // Grace = Jesus grabbing us by the hand + taking us to the front. Jesus didn’t come for the most deserving — He came for the least deserving. He didn’t come for those who have it all together — He came for those whose lives are falling apart. // Let’s explore why Jesus cares more about relationship than perfection over a series of 4 podcasts. // 1 of 4
Jesus was ENOUGH, so you don’t have to be. HE is our perfect sacrifice + High Priest. He has given us direct access to God, so let’s start living like it. // 1 of 1
Forgotten by man. But seen by God. // We are made in the image of God. And just as film goes through development in a darkroom -- transforming a captured image from a negative into a full color print -- we go through cycles of development as our proximity to Jesus increases our exposure to more of Jesus. We are a generation that longs for the stage, longs to be placed in a frame + put in an art gallery but despises the darkroom. As if promotion can happen without development? Before David was king, he was shepherd. It was the field that prepared him for his next assignment : Goliath + ultimately King. His field was his darkroom. The level at which we are willing to let God into the hidden and intimate places of our life determines our level of exposure + development preparing us for what’s next. God always has more + calls us higher. // Let’s explore what it means to develop in the darkroom. // 1 of 1
The final installment in our ALL THE FEELS series was a GOOD one!! We didn’t start the fire. God did. // Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.” Genesis 1:28 // “The same fire that heats your home, makes your food, starts your car — it’s the same fire that can burn down everything in your house. The only difference between the fire — is the fire has a container.” // Pastor @iammiketodd Marriage is the container for sex. The covenant of marriage is the intended way to use the gift that God has given us. // Let’s explore how to navigate our feelings through a series of 3 podcasts. // 3 of 3
Working at a plant nursery + driving the tractor spraying roundup will teach you it’s important to know what you’re spraying and where you’re spraying it. All of us are constantly spraying something with our words -- whether it’s roundup and killing everything, or water with words that build + edify -- and it’s an indicator of our heart. Feelings affect the contents in our tank, and left unresolved cause our words to become toxic. Finding a space to process our feelings + weigh them against the word of God creates a place of healing in our hearts + grounds us in our relationships. // Let’s explore how to navigate our feelings through a series of 3 podcasts. // 2 of 3
Feelings are a great gauge and a terrible guide. How do we allow ourselves to feel + process life around us, but not let our emotions rule + lead us? How do we not: judge ourselves by our intentions + others by how we feel? How do we adjust that warped perspective and process life differently? // Let’s explore how to build + invest into lasting relationships and learn healthy ways to navigate our feelings through a series of 3 podcasts. // 1 of 3
It’s our ONE YEAR birthday + that means celebration is definitely in order!! Today we celebrate. Our win is simple : seeing God transform lives. Our finish line : when all are awakened to the light + love of Jesus. Lean in -- in this conversation with 3 friends that we’d likely not know if C3 City Light had not launched a year ago. These stories are powerful + a picture of God’s incredible love for you.
Kinda like in science where you have both class + lab, today is the lab -- the application of what we've learned. Today's topic: how to hear. Learning that depth in relationship happens when we operate in two-way communication with God. We communicate with God through his word + through his Spirit // in spirit + truth. // Let’s explore what FREQUENCY means over a series of 3 podcasts. // 3 of 3
Dealing with distractions. It's difficult to hear a whisper, when everyone + everything around you is yelling and demanding your attention. Waiting slows us down so we can hear the voice of God. Waiting is an active decision to intentionally create space. // Let’s explore what FREQUENCY means over a series of 3 podcasts. // 2 of 3
Self-discipline is great (& needed!) but nothing propels us forward like a Word from God!
Heaven’s message to Earth was Jesus. That message is real, good + most importantly: it requires a response from us. If you're prompted to respond to this message from Heaven -- whether it's your first response or you're choosing to respond differently than you have in the past -- we would love to be a part of your next step. // Let’s explore the greatest message -- Jesus -- over a series of 5 podcasts. // 5 of 5
All throughout the Bible we see that God is trying to reconnect with humanity. Because humanity was separated from God because of sin we need a savior to save us + reconnect us with God. Jesus is that solution. When we believe that we are connecting our story with the story of God. Immanuel is God with us. That’s personal. He isn’t limited to staying in the temple behind the veil. He is with us. No matter what you are facing God is with you. Don’t limit the king of the universe, the God of all creation to just being a theory or an idea in your life. It’s personal and you can have a personal relationship with him that’s more valuable than anything else in the world. // It’s Personal // Let’s explore the greatest message -- Jesus -- over a series of 5 podcasts. // 4 of 5
Silence often provokes reflection. While Elizabeth was pregnant with John, Zechariah became pregnant with a proclamation + prophecy for both his world + our world. Our series’ emphasis is centered around heaven’s message to humanity. Zechariah’s declaration prompts us to engage in this conversation + what his story, that remains unchanged, means for us today. // A Faith Conversation // Let’s explore the greatest message -- Jesus -- over a series of 5 podcasts. // 3 of 5
Lean into this interview with one of our Vision Builders global partners : Las Buenas Nuevas Central in Venezuela // Lead Pastors Wimel + Elsa da Silva. Such love + wisdom from Pastor Wimel with Gadiel da Silva interpreting. A building can only rise as high has the foundation can support. We are thrilled that you share our passion to rally around the vision God has given us for 2020 -- this year we lay the foundation. // VISION BUILDERS
Before Jesus needed a manger, he needed a womb. There was a role to be filled, and a choice to be made. Mary’s role was so important + integral to the story and message of Jesus. Her yes was the beginning of the story that continues today. The message of Jesus is living + active and there’s always an invitation to relationship. There’s always a part to play. Our message will always be Jesus. // A part to play // Let’s explore the greatest message -- Jesus -- over a series of 5 podcasts. // 2 of 5
The arrival of Jesus was miraculous and full of mystery. Sometimes it’s hard to see the miracles in life. Maybe the mystery fogs our vision + puts a ceiling on our faith for the miracle. So much of life is learning to believe in the promise, in the miracle despite the mundane. Knowing + believing that Jesus -- the greatest story of redeeming + saving -- shows up in our mystery. Our message will always be Jesus. // Let’s explore the greatest message -- Jesus -- over a series of 5 podcasts. // 1 of 5
Entitlement + discontentment are enemies of gratitude. It robs us of being content with what we have + sets an expectation that is often that is unrealistic and undeserved. Deciding to seize the opportunity to express gratitude, changes your perspective. We begin to see through the lease of blessing. // Pillars of virtue used to mark our society but the value and beauty of these virtues seem to be lost. This series is going to help us reclaim these forgotten pillars. Let’s explore these thoughts over a series of 3 podcasts. // 3 of 3

Integrity is a pillar in our life that adds stability. Walking in integrity happens when our behavior matches our beliefs. // Pillars of virtue used to mark our society but the value and beauty of these virtues seem to be lost. Respect is earned but honor is given. We are called to honor others. We honor by valuing, appreciating + acknowledging others simply because they are made in the image of God. Honor builds up + believes the best. // Pillars of virtue used to mark our society but the value and beauty of these virtues seem to be lost. This series is going to help us reclaim these forgotten pillars. Let’s explore these thoughts over a series of 3 podcasts. // 1 of 3
Life is too short and salvation is too precious for us to live for anything less than what Jesus died for us to be. God’s calling for us is always greater than our current capacity + always reaches beyond our lives and into the next generation. Growing our capacity usually involves a test + learning the definition of true trust: believing that God’s intentions toward us are always good. // Let’s explore these thoughts over a series of 4 podcasts. // 4 of 4

When we are awakened to the light + love of Jesus, we become alive through his resurrection. We can’t help but shine because we have been made to shine. The gospel isn’t simply a message of how bad people become good; it’s the power by which dead people become alive. This is the story of the ultimate redemption. He did it all to be close to us. This was God’s plan, the ultimate proposal for relationship with us. It would all be in vain without the resurrection. Because he rose, there’s life after death. Because of the power within us, we shine, we go public with our faith. // Let’s explore these thoughts over a series of 2 podcasts. // 2 of 2

If you try to be the light by doing good works from a place a performing and striving to get God's approval, you will work yourself to death -- it is impossible for you to earn salvation. Thank God that isn't his plan for us.
