Picking up where we left off, let's talk about 3 More Tips for Fitness Freedom and Meeting Your Child Where They Are At: CUSTOMIZING Just like ANY other Street Parking workout, customizing and fitness freedom is the name of the game when it comes to approaching kids' workouts. You do not HAVE to do any of the workouts as written, it's all about making adjustments as needed and simply thinking of it as a template. Don't be afraid to be creative or allow the kids to come up with ideas — it can help them “buy in” with choices and autonomy! Ideas for how to customize: adjust the time frame, adjust the rounds, add or reduce seconds of work or rest, run it on an EMOM clock, or switch out a movement that your child WANTS to do to make it fun and motivating. The main purpose is you're getting them moving, and that itself is a WIN! When kids are working out with you, you can customize to have your child follow your movements, or change it to a partner-style workout with a friend, peer, adult. So what about mid-workout customizations? Because let's be real, this is bound to happen at some point. One of our favorite tips is to use your own watch as a timer instead of a visual timer. Why? Because if you put it on a big timer and then realize your child is NOT having fun and you need or want to adjust, it is easier to say, “1 minute left” regardless of where they are at, allow them to still work hard, but end it before it's TOO much. It is good to push our children and show them what it looks like to do hard things, but we do not want to decrease their confidence or make them NOT want to workout again.      Full Blog

Wonder what to post on social media as a realtor? In today's episode of The Real Estate Sales Podcast, our host Jimmy goes over 7 different pillars of successful real estate content. 1. People to highlight. Sometimes social media content shouldn't be about ourselves, but instead about other people. Use your social media content to highlight others from time to time. Some examples of people to highlight include New homeowners, certain people or organizations in the community, or people who just sold their homes. 2. In the know. Are there any events happening in your community? Post about them, almost like a news reporter would. By promoting different events in your community, you can cement yourself as the real estate resource in your community. 3. Local listicles. A listicle refers to a numbered list. By posting listicles, you'll capture people's attention by providing them with information on certain places or businesses in your community. You could make a listicle about virtually anything, whether it be restaurants to check out or social gathering spots. 4. Listings. People want to get information on local listings to understand their local real estate market. You could post photos of new listings or short-form videos on new listings. You could also highlight particularly interesting listings. Mix it up. 5. All access. If you have an open house coming up, post some content that gives people a behind-the-scenes look at you setting everything up. You could show yourself setting up signs, cleaning the house, show activity during the event, etc. 6. Reviews and testimonials. Over 80% of people nowadays go online to look at reviews and testimonials for real estate agents that they're working with. By posting different reviews and testimonials, you can show potential buyers and sellers that you're the right real estate agent to work with. 7. Stats. Providing different information and stats to potential clients can help you be seen as a real estate resource, but the presentation is important. Include pictures or videos. I don't include cardio and strength training on the same day in all of my programs, but I do in some. The question, then, becomes, should you do strength training before or after cardio? In this article, I'll review the research behind each approach and then share some practical insights based on my experience working with clients over the past couple of decades. Cardio vs. Strength Training As I wrote about in The 3 Pillars of VIGOR, you can get most of the benefits of cardiovascular exercise from a well-designed strength and conditioning program. However, there are cases where including cardio in addition to strength training is beneficial. Women, in general, tend to respond better to programs with a moderate amount of cardio. For women with PCOS, cardio can be especially important. And even for men, including cardio can help them get through fat loss plateaus, or get rid of the last 15 pounds of body fat to see a complete six-pack. But just to be clear, I do not advocate doing cardio instead of strength training. If it comes down to doing one or the other on a given day, always do your strength training. With that in mind, here are some of the most significant benefits of each form of exercise. Benefits of Strength Training Strength training obviously makes you stronger (hence, the name), but it does much more, whether you're 18 or 81. Some of resistance training's key benefits include: Increased muscle mass: Strength training promotes muscle growth, which can improve your overall body composition and appearance.Schoenfeld, B. J. (2010). The mechanisms of muscle hypertrophy and their application to resistance training. Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 24(10), 2857-2872. Improved bone density: Resistance training helps to maintain and improve bone density, reducing the risk of osteoporosis.Layne, J. E., & Nelson, M. E. (1999). The effects of progressive resistance training on bone density: a review. Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 31(1), 25-30. Boosted metabolism: Building muscle increases your resting metabolic rate, which means you'll burn more calories at rest.Campbell, W. W., Crim, M. C., Young, V. R., & Evans, W. J. (1994). Increased energy requirements and changes in body composition with resistance training in older adults. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 60(2), 167-175. Enhanced functional fitness: Strength training improves your ability to perform everyday tasks, making you more functionally fit.Rantanen, T., Guralnik, J. Benefits of Cardiovascular Exercise When you look at most research and medical publications, you find a consistent set of benefits from cardio. They include: Improved heart health: Regular cardio can reduce the risk of heart disease by improving circulation and lowering blood pressure.Mora, S., Cook, N., Buring, J. E., Ridker, P. M., & Lee, I. M. (2007). Physical activity and reduced risk of cardiovascular events: potential mediating mechanisms. Circulation, 116(19), 2110-2118. Increased endurance: Cardio helps to build stamina, allowing you to exercise for longer periods without fatigue.Fletcher, GF., Ades, P. A., Kligfield, P., Arena, R., Balady, G. J., Bittner, V. A., ... & Sibley, C. (2013). Exercise standards for testing and training: a scientific statement from the American Heart Association. Circulation, 128(8), 873-934. Main Idea: To lead yourself well, you must know yourself. You must have a true foundation, and increasing grasp of self-awareness. Typically we have one overdeveloped, over-obsessed pillar, and two that are almost completely unformed. Pillar One: Who Are You? Character: Are you lying to yourself about what could potentially destroy you? Are you shaking off, or actively combating, truths that are uncomfortable? Personality: What energizes you? What depletes you? What's your natural rhythms Personality Testing: DISC, Enneagram, Leading from your strengths. Gifting: We try to operate in other people's gifting because we see the impact it has clearer than we can see the impact of our own gifting. Test: StrengthsFinder Ethos Emotional Intelligence component of who you are. Question: “What's it like to be on the other side of me?” Further Statements Only when we know what we're made of and what we want to make of it can we begin our lives. Bennis Warren Bennis on how to know yourself 1) You are your own best teacher 2) Accept responsibility. Blame no one. 3) You can learn anything you want to learn. 4) True understanding comes from reflecting on your experience. Pillar Two: What do you want This is one aspect of self-leadership that is almost completely unformed. People set out to be leaders, without knowing why. “No leader sets out to be a leader. People set out to live their lives, expressing themselves fully. When that expression is of value, they become leaders. So the point is not to become a leader. The point is to become yourself, to use yourself completely-all your skills, gifts, and energies- in order to make your vision manifest.” Warren Bennis. Reflection: I don't think that's true, many people set out to be a leader. Mercenary Leader or Visionary Leader Mercenary: Developing and deploying skills to whatever seems the most interesting and pays the most. Visionary: The person who becomes a leader, develops what is needed, in pursuit of a vision they desperately want to accomplish. Mercenary Leaders bail early. The third pillar of self-awareness must be an awareness of “are you willing to do what is necessary to get there?” Many men want to be president, few want to do president.
