Through doing my fortnightly podcast 'The Black Heat Radio Show' on straightup.com.au, I am always on the lookout for new music, producers and artists and lately I've just been digging jazz, not any particular style, but everything I hear I'm soaking up. Through this journey I found the Millennium Jazz and The Jazz Jousters productions and one of my favourite artists amongst them is Jaze Baqti. This lead me to seeking out more of Jaze's productions and hence I came across his soundcloud, mixcloud and facebook pages. I was inspired to put this mix together just by the sheer number and quality of the beats Jaze has produced. I hope you dig it and be sure to search out Jaze and follow his pages and music. Last of all hope you like it Jaze! (It's not perfect) Enjoy... Dj Mr Lob
Firstly I would like to say a big thanks to Millennium Jazz, The Jazz Jousters and Gadget for doing me the honour of inviting me to do this as part of their Millennium Jazz Podcast series at www.mixcloud.com/MillenniumJazz . I would also like to pay my respect to all past and present Jazz musicians and producers. I found it really hard to put this set together and made about 3 different sets before I settled on this one. I guess as I am predominantly a funk and soul dj, that started by spinning hip hop, that these elements are very strong in my track selection and in fact much of my love for jazz stemmed from hearing funky jazz, soul jazz and hip hop based on Jazz samples. I was also strongly influenced by the Acid Jazz movement in the early 90's and the Rebirth of Cool and Jazzmatazz releases in the 90's. All this led me to delve deeper into Jazz and hence my session nears the end with some of the masters, Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis before going out with a bang with the Jazz Juice track 'The Kicker', which reminds me of the Knotting Hill Carnival Jungle stages and demonstrates quite clearly how Jazz has pervaded all genres of music.
This is a bit of a journey into the life of a party, starting off slow and jazzy and building momentum as the night progresses and the beats get louder and faster while never losing site of staying funkee and keeping the party goers rocking out. Turn it up loud and make some space as you breakdown to the sounds of The Future Shock Party Tape... Dj Mr Lob
Recorded Live in my living room, these are some of my favourite Reggae tracks. This mix is all about the flow and mood, with yes the occasional mistake which I haven't edited out!
Recorded Live in my living room, this is Part 2 of my 'Sun is Shining' Reggae Mix, but can stand on it's own!
